It’s sad to me that so few people even know of this movies existence. From the acting to the music to the scenery and the story itself, the whole thing is a masterpiece
Last week I was on the classic Red Bus tour in Glacier National Park, and our driver played this as we rolled through the spectacular scenery. I was almost brought to tears. I had to ask what the name of it was, and now I must listen to the whole soundtrack!
From the time the orchestral score came out on the album I have loved this piece. It can stand apart from the film as a classic on its own. From the piano intro to the timely blending in of all the string instruments and the quiet inclusion of the brass, including the tuba, gave this music its rich and distinct sound. The results was a deeply emotional and memorable musical experience.
I can't not think of my brother who I lost years ago. It's good I remember him through this music, but the loss still makes me cry after all these years.
Such a beautiful score. James Horner was a fabulous composer, taken from us far too soon. I am a retired studio singer and worked many of Mr. Horner’s sessions. He was dear.
I’ve always been a MASSIVE fan of movie scores, especially those done by John Williams, James Horner, and Hans Zimmer - the “big 3” as I like to call them. I’m so fond of the talent these three composers possess. If I have to pick one singular piece of music that’s my favorite that any of them did, it would be this piece from “Legends of the Fall.” In my humble opinion, it’s the most beautiful piece of orchestral music ever written. James Horner, who we lost too soon and so tragically, somehow magically captured a soaring beauty in the melody that plays throughout “The Ludlows.” The piano intro, the way the orchestra joins in after, and the way the violins complete it. It’s all so deeply beautiful and transports you to the time and setting of the movie like any great score does. Bravo, FSO, bravo for playing this piece with the proficiency and respect it commands.
on the cruiseship 2 months ago, the violinist played four movie themes, then asked audiences to guess from which movie, each time I waited few seconds for others to answer, then uttered it, She the Spanish violinist is so happy, me too.
Still one of my favorites movies and one of the most sad and heartbreaking movies I’ve seen, everything is perfect about it. It truly shows how death of a loved one impacts us so much as the death of Samuel almost if not did destroy the family thanks fully in the end they could rekindle and push away the anger and hatred as they realized they needed each other as that’s what family is for.
I have never been driven to cry as much as when I hear this song from Legends of the Fall. It pulls on my heart strings so very much. TOO BEAUTIFUL FOR WORDS!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Dear Isabelle, how strange to have a cultivated woman in the house again. And how intoxicating. Indeed, to have all three of my sons under my roof again. It fills me with such a deep quiet satisfaction … that I thank God - Col. Ludlow
I do not get tired of seeing the movie and listening to this soundtrack, it gets to my soul and I cry like now every time I find such a beautiful amelody ..
This is without a doubt the most beautiful soundtrack for any film that I have ever heard. It fills me with such Grace for the American and mystery of the ancient West and the cowboy and his cattle ranch. I hear horses neighing in the background and cattle blowing in the field. This Melody represents our beautiful Untamed West in the early 20th century. Thank you mr. Holder for giving us such beautiful music in this haunting Melody. Sincerely, Andrea Alig.
This piece makes me think of my family. Especially my grandmother. She loved ranch life. She hated the city. I always thought why? As she passed and left the ranch to my uncles. I see why. Peace. Peace from this crazy world.
Gracias
At 5:30 in this was the most important of the song and closure to those who listen close. The conductor knows this and probably spent hours upon hours perfecting this part. You can tell when he lowers his wand as to just witness and then we he looks up to the sky with pleasure after they conclude that part as if “We did it. This was perfect”. Beautiful when you think of the preparation these musicians put themselves through. Beautiful rendition and a tear shed for this masterpiece.
This wonderful orchestra is among the finest in the world. The enthusiasm, energy, passion, and professionalism equally engage the heart and ear alike. Most of all, this adds up to pure entertainment JOY flowing from your excellent Conductor through each member of the instrumental sections. Please come tour in America. Plus, you are the perfect choice to perform a complete movie soundtrack during a live audience screening of a feature film. Our NSO in Washington DC does this at the Kennedy Center and the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts in Vienna, Virginia (just outside DC). Come to the USA soon. THANK YOU and keep playing and posting your wonderful musical performances.
If I may, to me this is one of the best pieces of film score music ever! And I have to be 100% and completely honest you guys hit it out of the park! You guys are absolutely amazing and I loved every second
Trust me, they know it. If it is that pleasing to listen to, imagine being the person that creates the listening experience. Your comment is spot on. Cheers!
The most romantic an' emotional track in a movie in all century ! James Royel Horner , is a really romantic an ' great music genious ! Thank you very much guys for that track! Is a real gift of music! Maestro you ' re the best !
This musical piece expands the heart and stills and gentles the soul. Very beautiful and timeless. I have to come back and listen to it again and again.
I have spent my last year listening to this piece and playing on Piano multiple times. Indeed it reminds me of the girl whom I was in love with secretly and who just got married recently.
One thing I have always loved about Horner's music is the lines he writes for Clarinet. Legend's of the Fall is a beautiful score. One of his many great compositions and glad to see this orchestra honor different movie composers.
Beautiful music Very soulful; this hypnotic music reminds us that we are still humans inside even though we now live in a digital society. This reminder nourishes the body. God Bless Mr. Horner….
Words cannot express what this piece of music and the movie that it came from, means to me. I’m so sorry that the world lost such a great talent too soon.
At 4:22 you can clearly hear bits and pieces of Braveheart and Bicentennial Man. Love how the composers reuse and varie their motifs and themes. RIP James Horner and thank you for this divine music.
It’s sad to me that so few people even know of this movies existence. From the acting to the music to the scenery and the story itself, the whole thing is a masterpiece
This is the most unique and breath taking scores ever. I have adored this piece since childhood, it is forever in my heart.
RIP James Horner. You brought beauty and joy into our lives. Thank you.
1:04 - When the music travels not just through your ears but down to your soul.
Probably one of the all time best scores ever written.
Yes. And also "Field of Dreams". Both Horner Masterpieces. I don't think any other soundtrack comes close to these two.
Beautiful Mind is another one that's really beautiful.
John Barry's "Dances With Wolves" is #1 along with his other masterpieces "Out of Africa.
"The Ludlows" was my first piano piece, and it will always have a special place in my soul.

You are not alone it makes me sad and I feel the loss of our country
God bless you, you are really a good guy
When I listen to this song I close my eyes and imagine this movie, such a beautiful score to listen to❤
This music tugs at my soul
We lost James Horner too soon. What a genius. Another one of his greatest scores is "Glory."
Yes buddy
Yes...Glory Is right there with Legends.
May he RIP. So sad. So extraordinaire!😥💓💐
💯
Glory is masterful. Watched it for the first time in middle school, wept at the end, the music really made an impact to the service of the story.
The last part of violon is so heart touching
Such a beautiful score. James Horner was a fabulous composer, taken from us far too soon. I am a retired studio singer and worked many of Mr. Horner’s sessions. He was dear.
What a gift to have performed with such genius. James Horner was brilliant.

Beautifully done Transporting. Bravo! Many thanks to the filmsymphony for posting this. 🌹

There’s an elegance to this conductor that just makes the notes sound more opulent and more soothing to the soul.
