    Gronk and Kelce are both unstoppable in their primes. But Kelce does so with so much skill and grace compared to Gronk's raw power sledgehammer-like play. I'd still (slightly) place Gronk at number 1 as a true TE, because of his A+ blocking skills. For me, Kelce lines up more as a big WR.

      @@russellrobards9822 He isnt a terrible blocker. Hes fine. Gronk was a great blocker. Plus Kelce legit lines up at a WR position 70% of the time. He's different, and is asked to do very different things.
      Look at what gronks great blocking got him. A busted up body and early retirement. Theyre the same age.

      You have to factor in the eras as well, players in the secondary today are a lot better overall than they were in the 90s and 2000s.. Kelce would have been completely unstoppable in Tony’s time

      @@vindicatedafi teams were far more run heavy back then so defenses were built accordingly to handle that.. the depth of teams DBs and pass rushers was far worse up until recently

      @@milfslayer3202 no defenses were allowed to lay heavy hits on the offense. The way ti counter attack that is to hit them back by running the ball. The less the defense gets to hit or have any kind of freedom the more finesse offenses become because you can’t touch them. When defenses are able to hit receivers coming across the middle again you won’t see as many passing yards and records being broken.

      Tony wasnt like that. Tony was that guy who ran great routes and was open even when he was covered. He always won the positioning/leverage. Underrated blocker too.

      If memory serves, Tony G. had a less than stellar rookie season with a number of dropped balls....and then he probably had a "come to Jesus" with himself and said, "enough of that stuff!"     People don’t have enough respect for what Gronk. He was arguably a Top 1-2 receiving TE while being essentially an additional lineman that could block 3-4 DEs. Kelce is a mediocre blocker. There are WRs that can block better than Kelce.

    Travis has grown so much as a man. More than a talent. He came into the league hot headed. Stupid penalties. Cheap shots on opponents. He didnt control his emotions well. 2017 he was different. He became a real team leader.
    Funny old story i heard, i dont think they did it on the podcast: Ozzie newsome interviewed him before the draft. Legend has it ozzy popped in a four and a half minute cut up of him in college doing stupid crap and losing his cool during games. After watching it with him he asked kelce "Are you an asshole travis?"

    It helps that he has a world class talent at QB throwing him the ball. Both Kelce and Gronk had the luxury of having the some of the best in history slinging them the ball. If Tony Gonzalez played with Brady or Manning during his career he would've put up insane stats too.

      Nope. Just look up a stat comparison. Gronk has played 7 more games than Kelce. They're the same age. The only significant stats that Gronk leads in is TDs, yards per catch, and yards per target. Kelce leads Gronk in targets, total receiving yards, total receptions, catch percentage, receiving yards per game, receptions per game, and 1st downs per game. Again, doing so in 7 fewer games than Gronk. Then take into account Gronk had TB12 all of his career while Kelce has had Mahomes half of his career.

      Just because you take your blocking assignment to the ground doesn’t make you a better blocker, there were many times in gronks career where he never disengaged and got to the second level. Kelce’s rac ability is second to none with any player in the league including wideouts.

    He’s a great player but he’s not even the best TE that’s 33 years old. Gronk is number 1. Shannon Sharpe, Antonio Gates, Tony Gonzalez, and Travis Kelce are all in the same category. Hall of fame level talent but Gronk transcended the position. Gronk had 17 TDs in a season. He was one of the best blocking tight ends to ever play the game of football but he also just so happened to be the best receiving one as well. A true freak and his like will probably not be seen again for sometime. Kelce for sure ain’t it.
    For the record I hate the Patriots and I’m not a fan of Tom Brady but respect where it’s due and Gronk deserves to be GOATED

    Travis is holding together far better than Gronk overtime. Longevity will likely put him above Gronk in all areas of stats if he’s not already. Prime though? Gronk I feel like may have been more dominant in his prime. None of this actually matters. Both are great and any team would be lucky to have either of them as a player.

    difference between gronk and kelce is kelce's catches are all 90% YAC and slipping away from guys, whereas gronk's are tiny window throws into tight, often double/triple coverage with insane hands and running over guys, even making diving catches with perfect throws where only he can make a play...never seen kelce do that. they are completely different. kelce doesn't have gronk's hands, but he's always schemed way more open than gronk ever was, and is never double/tripled as often as gronk. on the other hand, gronk's YAC isn't as prolific as kelce's.

    It's not that kelce went on a three week hiatus because he couldn't get into the endzone, after the game where he got 4 tds we just used him as a decoy because he was drawing doubles every play but enough time has gone by that we can use him like normal in the end zone. Mahomes trusts him the most.vy far so having so many rookies having to play, kelces getting the ball more

    TY is right this team should be 3-7. The problem is coaching & I'm not talking about Staley necessarily even though he is a problem as well but I'm talking about our bland OC Lombardi. Blocking is good and part of the job description of a tightend, but if your tighend is a generational receiving talent, it makes no sense to not use him in the best way for the team. People try to act like Travis Kelce can't block, but actually look at the film. He's a willing blocker and has a win rate on blocking downs. So he blocks well and is an incredible receiving threat.

    Travis Kelce is a beast and so is his brother. The NFL needs to make a show called football family about families where multiple members play in the NFL at the same time or even through the generations. At the very least at least do one of those NFL top ten show episodes about football families. I just think it would be a good show bc I know of many families where multiple people are in the NFL and are beasts.

    TEs in general are the future of the NFL. They create the most mismatches and have the highest level of volatility from one to the next (in terms of height, weight and speed). Bill and the patriots new this 10-15 years ago and the chiefs are taking full advantage now with 4 te sets last night. I'm not the first to write something like this so not taking any credit but TE will be the future of this league. Just wait for these 6 6 4.4 250+ guys to start taking wr in the coming years.
