    By staying in KC Travis Kelce is going to end up being the greatest statistical TE of all time with some stats that will lead the league for a decade or more post retirement. Statistically speaking, Kelce actually has a long way to go to lead all historical TEs.
      However, he's only played 7 seasons thus far, and all other TEs at the top of the mountain have played 11+. Gronk played 11, Jimmy Graham played 11, Sharpe played 14, Gates played 16, Gonzalez played 17, Witten played 18.
      If Kelce plays at a high level for 4 more seasons he'll *probably* be 2nd in yards and 3rd in TDs. If he continues to be a role player for another few years after that he could take the lead in every statistical category. But playing at a high level for 11 years is really, REALLY hard to do. He has to avoid injury for several more years.

    I love seeing how this always comes up as a conversation topic when it's Mahomes, Hill or Kelce. The Chiefs and the stars have an understanding, and it's not a secret. Hill was offered $26 million, decided he wanted $30 so the Chiefs approached him about a trade and he agreed. The Chiefs will pay Mahomes whatever he ask for. They won't pay Kelce whatever he asks for. He knows that. Of course it's totally valid for him to feel some kind of way from time to time. • @whitewhale9012
      @whitewhale9012 Год назад

      Indeed, but remember that owners dont pay players based on their stadium income.
      Players are paid by the shared revenue from TV deals, while the cap is bargained for by the unions and owners.
      There is a spending floor in the nfl, and cap rollovers. Money allocated to players is it's own pool.
      One can argue the pool should be bigger, but paying 1 guy 100 million a year isnt hurting the owner. It just means you cant spend as much on the rest of the team.
      I'm not defending it, just clarifying. This isnt major league baseball where some teams can pay one player more than another can pay a whole roster.

    For high profile players who become household names, the "bag" is the long-term money made off the field, and after retiring from the game. Endorsements, deals, partnerships and investment opportunities rely on the fame your acquire while playing. I bet those 2 rings fetch Kelce already more money per year than what the Chiefs pay him. Look at the Brady-Fox contract. Travis has hit long-term paydirt with Mahomes and Reid, he'd be very short-sighted to throw that away. Which, by the way, he's not doing.

    The fact that there are league wide preconceptions of what a position is worth means the league even after all this time under-appreciates and under-values play makers and difference makers that don't play as typical WRs, Edge, Left Tackle etc. Are you scheming your offence or defence around a player? Are they consistently productive? Kelce is underpaid. It's obvious and that's the Chiefs failure (and Travis's). I have no problem with people taking less and weighing other priorities. To some extent I think you have to go that far to win, but the league's bias toward position pay vs individual production is really poor and unimaginative.
