  • These two guitars were made out of Red Gum, a type of eucalyptus, to identical specifications. The only thing that was altered was the soundboard material, and this is to show the audible differences between these two materials. This should hopefully help any of you out there stuck when deciding which top to go for!
Otherwise the specifications for the guitars are the same,
    Red Gum back and sides,
    Mahogany neck,
Exotic Ebony fingerboard, head veneer and bridge,
    Mahogany bindings,
    Gotoh 510 machine heads,
and an Oil and Wax finish.
    Skilfully played by Mick Hendron.

So great to hear the differences between those two tops. The dynamic range of the spruce was fantastic, but the clarity between the notes on that cedar top was perfect for that music arrangement.

Both beautiful, but I like the clarity of the spruce - perhaps biased as I play spruce classical guitars 😊

Both great guitars, the cedar sounds a little more open and warm to me. I expect the sitka will open up over time. There's a real consistency between the two which is impressive.

As a Newbee luthier in training i have only made 8- instruments from scratch, i honestly cannot hear a difference between the two.. I stopped building for a few months so i can train my ears to hear when i tap on my backs & tops. Anyway Thanks beautiful guitars & great playing

Both great sounding guitars, but I think the sitka spruce one sounds marginally better.
