I hunted public upstate NY property and it was like going to a rock concert. Guys with flashlights directing traffic in the parking area- guys crawling all over the woods - Opening day shots sounding off all over - I can't believe the first day of the Iraq war had more shots

    Hey buddy.
Another great story/lesson of how it’s done..
So,, more to my story of how I became a bow hunter for the first time this year..
Last morning of rifle season 2016, my first hunt in over 15 years..
Not a clue about the land I’m hunting or what might be out there. I chose to take the furthest spot around the corn and not a stand to be found. Thought it was polite to take the long walk when looking at a map at camp when we were deciding who goes where.., took a little tripod chair and sat behind a downed tree as the sun broke over the far ridge..
Seen two young bucks not legal to take down hill and they ran off around a south ridge..
I told myself, if nothing else moves in 30min I’m walking further down so I can see where they came from..
30min later and about 20steps threw crunchy, frosty leaves,
BIG antlers pushed threw the brush strait Down and to the east of me.. (BIG).,
Much longer, but exciting story to tell how I got him but chased his ass down a steep ridge to the creek where he made it half way across, but me and two more guys had to drag him up the 10’ far bank a hour after they finally got where I was..
    He’s a 20 1/4” spread 9point..
Maybe not world class deer, but damn sure somthin special for a guy just trying to stay out the way and get back in the hunt., maybe learn somthin to teach his step sons..
LUCKY GUY? Absolutely fair to say..
A few special souls in the great beyond making sure I found the guidance and path me and a couple deserving young step sons needed? Maybe!!
    Just maybe a small miracle!!
    He’s pretty big tho!😉
Changed my whole life, and started our new passion together from one amazing deer..
We’ve enjoyed every weekend in the woods together since. Seen many deer, and will celebrate a doe..

Awesome Buck! That'd been cool to see on vid but oh well filming can be a hassle! I bet everyone around was greened up with envy! Well They can look at it this way atleast the guy's hunt'n that night probably helped ya! I had a similar situation,Where I got an opportunity at about a 160's Buck about 150 yds. away from the most popular hunting spot in that piece of Public! There was only one Maple tree in the center of this open area and he was bedded about 50 ft. from it and 100 ft. from the edge everyone entered at with the wind at his back! I just happened to go in to scout/Hunt through the opposite fencerow that had a point that came off towards the middle of this open area. As i came up on this Oak Flat Point on the front edge found a couple blown out Saplings about 7-8 inch in diameter! He shredded them so i knew I was onto something. Guess where I'm gonna hang&hunt around Halloween! Thanks for affirming my style of Hunting Dan! I was kinda losing confidence because everyone said I should do it different but Lo & Behold I was hunting like a Beast and didn't know it! Now I just need to polish it up and start killing some big bucks!

    • @thehuntingbeast
      @thehuntingbeast  5 лет назад +6

Sure looked like a booner... But yes, it grossed 165 and netted barely over 160. I have a couple "gross" booners, but have yet to kill a net one, and really never will, cause they are really only a booner if you put them in the books, and none of mine in the future will ever be entered in the books. Just not why I hunt.
