What do you think of my first vlog? Let me know in the comments below!
I'm here for drama and Rob's know how. Always nice to have somebody's expertise shared, even though it's totally not my thing. It's a great story! 🤗
Thanks so much Sjoerd!
I do a lot of carbon work on my channel....this tip on using the ruler to keep the weave patterns aligned is genius!
Thank you very much! 🙏😊
It’s refreshing to see that others share the same mistakes and disappointments as myself.
This guy is really good and I totally enjoy watching him build.
Thanks Steve!
We all have bad days. Just recently I threw a laquer soaked rag onto a freshly polished funny car body. I threw the lot into the box and went for a walk.
That’s a tough one! Hope you’ll have a better project soon
i feel your pain on all those decals lifting. nice recovery. i always like a few thin gloss coats on decals especially if there's more taping to go. save the flat coats till is done as sheen depends on the last coat, and I'm ready to move to oils or stuff that flats work better with. also letting tape sit on surfaces for long periods like overnight never helps. as for decal rips, i've changed to a 2 second dip ,just enough to saturate the paper part, then resting it on a damp paper towel, paper side down till the decal releases and only adding a drop of water if it hasn't released after a minute. the thinking being that water soaking can break down the acrylic film faster that the paper. by going after softening the paper directly and not the whole thing, my decaling life has drastically improved. cheers.
Thanks for the tips!
Interesting. This is my first time seeing a “cut it yourself” decal set. Great video, dank je oom
Dank je wel William! 😊🙏
Just came across this last night, excellent video. I like that you show all the tools and paints you are using. I've just done about 3 cars, one I've had for nearly 30 years which I see you have in the background a lola T93. I've finally finished it, had loads of problemsucj the same as yours decals on tape despite a clear coat, crazed zero paints etc. Nice to see I'm not alone! Indycals is a good source of decals for F1, quite cheap although a bit thick and you have to cut them out. Looking forward to catching up on more of your videos
Thanks Dean, great to hear that! Yes Indycals decals are cool. Good luck on your T93 project!
Deliciously entertaining. Been there: done that! (Love the hairstyle. If only my head was so glorified.)
Haha, thank you! 👍😄
Mate that was very entertaining and I felt your pain numerous times, we hav3 all been there. My hat is off to you, your patience is much better than mine. I look forward to seeing the next video.
Thank you, very nice to hear that 😊
Bless ya mate, when a model goes wrong like that I walk and leave it for a month 👍🇬🇧👌
Thanks! It will be a bit longer than a month I guess 😉👍
Leuk man! Geboeid heb ik het hele filmpje bekeken. Lekker ook wat humor tussendoor.
Leuk om te horen, dank Bart!
this was awesome! Properly enjoyed it. Keep on doing more of that 👏
Thanks so much Ivan!
Dankjewel Arjen, heel tof om te horen! 😊
A lot of hard work equals a great finished product. I appreciate the hard work you put into the video…and…all the steps, mistakes, frustrations along with the resolutions to the model. No shame as it’s all part of the hobby! Keep up the great work!
Tom from Troy, Michigan. Now off the the other videos.
Thank you Tom! 🙏😊
Nice job, love it! Very interesting to see👌, can't wait for part 2! Don't let us wait till snow is coming again.. 😉
Thanks so much Jac, I will hurry a bit more 😄😉
Great video! Nice pace in it and Rob give a lot of info regarding the process and the racecar. Keep it up Hobby Robby!
Thanks Vincent! 🙏😊
.....Gravity Colors in Spain! You'll never go back to another paint! Super patience though with Zero! Fantastic job.....
Thank you. Yes, I’ve already got me done GC in the house
Great start of your channel! love the history part of the lotus. also including the 'mistakes' is helpfull as most don't include them and atleast you show how to deal with it. keep up the great work as its the start of an amazing channel!
Thank you very much Gert!
Dankjewel Astrid! 😊
Well Done Robby! Thanx for the credits @ 31:14 ;-) good luck with the next video, hurry, hurry!! ;-)
Thanks you Henxie! 😊
Fantastic video sir! Can’t wait to see more.
Thank you Dave!
Well done! Looking forward to your next video.
Thanks Bas!
Awesome vlog, Robby! I expected some level of detailing (😉), but this for me is truly mind-blowing! Respect! The video was great fun to watch - looking forward to the next! 👍
Thanks so much Fokke! And you are MY FIRST Patreon supporter! A million thanks for that! 🙏😁👍
Amazing video well done, and the skill saving that decal from the rear wing after the tape stuck. bravo
Thanks James! 😊👍
A suburb vlog Rob!! Nice music and great footage. You’re a true expert on race cars and models
Thanks Jacob, the one and only singer of the Hobby Robby song! 🎤 🎸😊👍
Your perseverance is admirable!! Keep trying and you will keep learning and improving... thanks for putting the effort in to making this video... your video was very well done, and I really enjoyed it... this was definitely a learning experience, but nothing is ever perfect the first time...
Keep it up Hobby-Robby!
Thank you Geoff, I will try to hold on! 😊
I feel your pain!!!
That is some mad professor mayhem! Your attention to detail is astounding, which is of course the only way to do this properly. I think anything that can go wrong will go wrong with these kinds of endeavours. 'Zonder crisis geen verhaal', so that's something to look forward to 🤔 in next episodes. That full Hobby Robby song video at the end was great fun. I needed that after all the mishaps ;) Thanks for the shout-out 👍 You know where to find me.
Thanks so much Frank! 🙏

Heel knap gemaakt, goed commentaar erbij, leuke overgangen. Petje af, goed bezig 💪🏻
Dankjewel Toine! 😄
You have incredible patience)
Thank you! 🙏😊
My heart goes out to you, we've all had disasters, so recoverable, some not! But, I learnt a lot. Mostly that I think I'll give Zero paints a wide berth and stick with Tamiya and Mr Hobby for now. Oh, and be very wary of aftermarket decals, although I have used Indycals with great success in the past.
Thank you very much! Yes, Indycals are cool 👍
Hobby Robby! What a skills and expertise you have to build and to show it. Very learnful, very entertaining. Your craftmanships, way of presenting (story telling, camera management, montage, sound effects) and enthousiasm makes it so interesting and entertaining, both for model builders as well as for others. Brave to share the mistakes, eh, disasters. But that's what makes your vlog extra learnful and exiting. You really add something to the (model) world. Keep going!
And the result, fabulous. Nice with the heroic and triumphantic music.
Thanks so much for your kind words Arjen, they make me smile! 😀
@@arjenkolkman3672 Thank you!
Look forward to following your channel. I'm currently building the same Lotus. It takes me over a year to build a kit normally. I haven't helped speed myself up by choosing to paint the entire livery tho.
How cool! Yes the livery gives me nightmares, it is so difficult to mask. Haven’t started yet, but in my mind I have 😉 Good luck with your build!
@@hobbyrobby thank you, I post my builds on F1m so you may see it on there sometime.
Look forward to seeing more of your videos. Nice quality production.
@@davidfisher5507 Great, I will have a look then!

@@racefanrob I will when I post it up, not got round to getting it uploaded yet.
In the Netherlands we want to speak English, I do not know why! You confirm the image of the dutch that we are a little bit clumsy!
Onwijs leuk Rob!
Dankjewel! :)
Super vlog Robby 😍👌
Maybe the length of the vlog is a bit too long I suppose, people will skip through your content sooner if the upcoming vlogs being this long, more cuts = more vlogs = more content for your YT and Patreon 😁👌 All my blessings this job will pay your bills and lifestyle (and maybe a bigger shed in the future) 😜
Thanks Meike! And you’re right, it is a bit lengthy. But skipping will make you miss fun things 😉 But shorter vids will follow!
Nah - I don't think too long... i enjoy a decent length video more than a 5min video... the length is fine... i hope you find better luck and much success next time!
You made me laugh within a few minutes of the video, liked and subbed mate. :)
Very nice to hear that! 😄👍
Hi great Video buddy I feel your pain with paint issues, zero paints are great paints they are not compatible with tamiya primers what I use is cellulose based automotive primer thinned down with anti bloom thinners you can dry sand wet sand etc and any paint will go over the top, plus it will last you a lifetime and it etchers into the styrene. and it will not melt your kits so don't worry about nay Sayers on the internet knowledge is king here. I use it all the time and it is cheap and zero paints are ok over it because they are automotive paints. Don't just throw out your zero paint you just need the correct primer grab one of there primers and do a comparison between primers then coat both in zero base coat.
Thank you Andy, I will try your proposal in the future!
@@hobbyrobby no problems buddy I found that tamiya paints in the jars may be to there own formula and seem to be alcohol based not sure on this, I just found cellulose based primer great yes it smells etc but it's a hot primer and pretty much any paint will also go over it even 2k. Ps the primer is really thick and you can use it to fill pin marks etc also tamiya cellulose body putty is just thick primer because you can thin it down and air brush it lol.. how do I know this 30 years in the body and paint trade retired now styrene model prep paint is no different. Like I said knowledge is king with paints.branded paint like tamiya etc just want you to buy there paint I use tamiya, Vallejo, craft acrylics etc but always use cellulose primer take care wil sub to your channel because you are quite exciting to watch lol....
100% on primers and also fillers as mentioned below. I've never tried zero so thx for that tip. yet another strike against tamiya paints.
I have NEVER had good experiences with Zero. Had Mclaren red that was basically water, it had so much thinner. Awful. But then I see other people who got great results......must be the desert air. I always put tape cut outs on the backing paper and invert the sides (right for left, left for right).
ZP needs to be mixed very thoroughly, especially at the bottom where all the pigments sit. This needs extra attention compared to other paints
So shaking a ZP bottle is not an option. You need to stir it with stirrer
#greatstuff Now I really have to get back to model building myself!
Thank you and yes, do so! :)
Love the vlog Rob! Amazing to see the quality of both the build, but also the video. It's all in the details, I can't wait to see the finished model. Also the fact that you show the setbacks makes it so much more realistic to watch.
But my favorite is the song/video at the end, it really did make me laugh.
Keep up the good work! :-)
Thank you so much Charrel, also for the extra publicity! 👍😄
Knap hoor!
Leuk man. Ik steek er veel van op
Leuk te horen Freddy!

Is buying F1 model Tamiya kits online a good idea? I’m worried that the product is not in pristine condition. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you very much!
You mean buying second hand kits? Always ask if the kit is complete beforehand and check if decals are in a good state and that the manual is present. Good luck!
Hi Robbie! I love the way you make your models and videos!
I also want to make my own decals, so please give some advice. What „paper“ donI have to print on? What printer toner? Thank you very much!!!
Thanks! For white prints I use Ghost White Toner. Use this referral: whitetoner.refr.cc/robbruijgoms?t=mc
Hmm. It doesn't seem to work anymore
Paper: try MrDecalPaper on eBay, he can help you further m.ebay.nl/itm/Water-Slide-Decal-Paper-A4-INKJET-Waterslide-Transfer-Paper-TEN-PACK-SIZES-/181840164873
Thank you Robbie!
@@hobbyrobby btw, why are there are no new videos anymore?
Museum collection not very serious, I found printing errors on the side adhesive of the rear wing of my lotus 107 kit and they do not respond to my messages, a lot of money wasted
Correct, the decals are so-so and they don’t respond on email. Too bad mate! :(
@@hobbyrobby disaster after disaster😂
you put a lot of effort on editing ha?
Yes I did! 😊
It's a nightmare but you did several mistakes. Never apply masking tape directly on decals. Always apply primer (2k is better) before spraying ZP paint. You will learn from your mistakes but its a long long way.
I did use primer before applying ZP and the tape wasn’t put directly on the decals. The decals were coated with varnish
A 27 year old decal heavy Tamiya kit? No thanks, I'd rather chew my own fingers off.
