You really have the soul of a painter. I love the more "technical" descriptions, as "this us a semi- double rose," and the way you check the perfume, taking deep breathes. Thank you for sharing your life and work here.
Love the multi shades of pinks in this rose combined with it’s beautiful matte green foliage‼️Really unusual pale to deep shading in its flowers‼️Really enjoyed seeing this his lovely review‼️Thank you so much‼️🥰❤️Debbie ~ Texas 🇺🇸
We planted it next to our bird bath by the pergola! Survived out very cold weather snap we had this past winter! Looking forward to seeing the blooms 😊
Oh Ben..great that you do Ferdinand, i want to get it as a Standart Rose in the Fall...what really surprises me is your concern about the Winterhardiness, it was bred by Tanne and they do recommend it even vor the Black Forrest area here in Germany, it is considered a very hardy old Rose...🤷🏼♂️🤔👍👍👍👍
I am enchanted by old roses. Purchased Ferdinand last year. Put up amazing buds and then the deer came and ate them, and canes. Horrified. I trimmed and shaped the shrub. He put out huge 5-6 ft canes and not another bud. Realizing in zone 7A Central Tennessee that Ferdinand could get extremely large, (as some do, like Lady of Shalott) in my area, I moved Ferdinand to a little bit more sheltered area receiving 8+ hrs of sun, where he can grow as large as he wants. He is in the line up on the side of my horse barn. He also suffered cane canker over the winter, hence the dryer spot. It is now mid June. He stands 3 ft tall, many health canes... not one bud. Any idea what is going on? I got one bloom last year on the backside of the shrub. Apparently, the dear missed it. And not another bud since. Why the wonderful canes and no buds?? I am soo looking forward to the scent. I love old roses. I have Ferdinand planted next to Louise Odier, bred 1851, and she is a blooming maniac and you can smell her fragrance before you round the corner. She's a glorious old rose. Thank you for these reviews. I look forward to them.
HI Ben, Fab video thank you. My son bought us this rose to plant up the ashes of our Fergie (Pussycat) and wow what a choice. I know the scent will be fantastic, I used to smell the old roses in my grandparents garden but have learnt so much more now from you. I want to plant it out in a pot on a warm sheltered 'cattio' (rescue cats are house carts) but I am new to roses and don't know what size pot to use. We have a huge pot that had a palm tree in, approx 1mx1m.. would this be ok? Sorry to ask but have been searching for this info and can't find it. Thank you.
Hi, I’m sorry about you pussy cat it’s never easy saying goodbye to beloved family member, yes, you could plant this in the pot, but the one you have his probably a little too large and would probably take three of these as it doesn’t get particularly large pot approximately 50 cm in diameter. Around 60 to 70 cm deep would be more than adequate for this.
I like to put a white climbing rose up on my house garden is north West. Have to put it in a pot any recommendationa? And it has to have a beautiful fragrance 😃

It grows in 35c minus zone 4b with no trouble in deep clay facing SW .

A north aspect is not ideal there are very few that will flower prolifically but to take a look at Madame Alfred carriere
