I should have made an update video. My pump failed again after a complete rebuild. I got into a massive argument with this company over the phone along with several calls to supervisors. Finally I gave up and bought a Honda. It works perfect every time without fail. Every rancher in my area uses a Honda pump as well and some of these pumps are really old and they haven't had a problem. I'll never buy anything "Champion" again!!
Sorry to hear that. I finally gave up after it stopped working again. I bought a brand new Honda water pump and it's been working great!! Oh, and I had a final big blowout with Champion, including some from management on the phone. They refused to make things right so I went elsewhere......
@@chucksnelling9417 -- It failed again so I stopped fixing it and bought a Honda. The Honda has been working flawlessly!! I had serious phone battles with Champion, including their management. They said I was abusing the pump by pumping too much grit or small gravel. I sent them the pump impeller to prove it was in like new condition. They had to apologize for that. Still, they refused to do right by me. I'll never buy from Champion again. I've been using the Honda pump once a week for over a year now and it works perfect. Thanks for watching!!
If you added a foot valve to your suction hose and filled the hose and pump with water you might have better luck with it. Makes it so much easier to prime the pump and may solve all your problems.
So.... one thing I did as soon as I got mine... I went and tighten checked the bolts areound the intact & outlet & several were loose. Not HORRIBLE... but I TRUST BUT VERIFY!!!!!!!!!!
Hi, greetings from northern Sweden. Not trying to teach anything, just reflecting on the subject. I was also curious about the root cause of this, thinking air leaks in somewhere. I usually like to change as few things as possible to narrow down the actual culprit, takes much longer and more grief :P My suspicion is the parts at low pressure, like the intake and the shaft seal. One thing that you suspected, the lack of water between the engine and pump house, it may be acting as a one way valve, like some loose tolerance and the seal allows air in when it starts to pump. Anyways, good to hear you venting the frustration, you sound quite calm compared to me when having to deal with this kind of nonsense.
Sorry for the late reply. Somehow I missed your comment. You very well could be right. However, the problem was fixed by replacing the outer pump casing in total, including the internals. I just didn't want to mess around with it any longer, LOL. It has been working great since.
@@knglaser -- Awesome!! I'll be using that book for research on some upcoming projects I have planned. I've decided to get away from producing product for customers and get back to what I like best, historical research and re-creation. That's why I got into Blacksmithing in the first place, including for the National Park Service. Hope you enjoy the book!!
I needed mine for runoff last night and it would not pump. Frustrating. Thanks for posting this video though. It did help.

After I replaced the entire pump, housing and all, it works great now. Something was wrong with the pump housing straight from the factory.
