    I agree 💯 about not buying multiple colors in an item you love, this was a game changer for me - it seems counter intuitive but when I had multiples I would tire of them almost immediately. Now, I love how every piece I have is unique, I appreciate each one much more. I also agree totally about finding your OWN basics. I’ve tried repeatedly but can’t wear denim or moto jackets, I just feel like a poser, they’re not me. 🙃 Fun video!!

    I like the simplification of choosing a COOL or WARM palette. The seasonal color analysis can be a rabbit hole for some of us. I like cool earthy colors; taupe, plums, charcoal and stone. I don't know what season that is but it's what I feel good in.

    A light camel tone work for you because it’s a darker shade of your hair color. All blue colors repeat your eye color, that’s why you look so good in it. You repeat your natural coloring and create harmony 🤗 It could work with complementary colors too. Then it’s not harmony but interest 😉

    I love the look and idea of shorts, but gave them up, too. No matter how high- or low-waisted they are, I just cant get a comfy fit in them. The exception is stretchy all-cotton-knit shorts for exercise, they fit comfortably, but are way too casual for daytime/street clothes. If I want to be comfortable, and I always do, it’s a skirt or dress. I get a lot of gaff for wearing them nowadays, even the most casual cotton skirt and t-shirt is considered dressy, for some reason. But in the first half of my life, that’s just what women mostly wore. Only students wore jeans, and not exclusively, either. Well, my beloved and loving family know I’ll be wearing a dress, so no problem.

    Perfect example with the versions of pink!! I recently decided in my colour palette. All colours in a tortoiseshell pattern (blacks, chocolate browns, specks of tan, taupe) + cool dusty pinks + medium muted red + white. As soon as I buy the wrong shade of pink, like bubble gum, it’s completely off.

    I had a similar experience with shorts but the opposite. I went many years not wearing shorts (all of my 20s and most of my 30s!) because I just wasn't comfortable or poor the look. But 2 years ago something just clicked for me and I have been loving shorts! If something doesn't work for you, don't cling to that because you could surprise yourself in the future!

    All valid points. I have bought what others said were wardrobe essentials only to have them sit in my closet unworn. First it was a white button up shirt. I do wear white button ups but in looser cuts and/or linen instead of that cotton/poly blend yuck. Also, a camel colored coat. Too warm for my skin tone and I felt totally "off" when I wore it the one time I did. What a waste of money and time (shopping for one).

    The struggles of being cool-toned! It's so difficult to find the belts or bags I want in silver hardware. Even when I finally ordered my dream coat, I sadly realized it leaned a little more orange than the true red/cool red the photos had suggested. I'm going to experiment with styling it to see if it still works in my wardrobe but I might end up reselling it. Even if I can accept the loss, it still feels like such a bummer to let go of such a beautiful piece.

      Its really more determined by skin tone than hair/eye colour. I have warm tones in my hair/eyes but very pale skin with blue/pink undertones so cool colours suit me better. If your skin has more of an olive tone then you would be warm, however some people are neutral in which case your hair/eye colour comes more into play. Trial and error is the way to go- you can use scarves or other coloured items against your face to determine your best colours/tones, and from there you will hopefully determine whether you are cool/warm or neutral 😊

I put my fleece Sheldon outfits in one bag and keep them out of sight and out of the closet but I haven’t got rid of them yet!! I have trouble letting go but my biggest concern right now is finding shirts that I like and I really want more dress shirts!!

    Great advice, all around. I’ve never seen a wardrobe basics list that works for me. I don’t wear jeans, denim jackets, black tops, etc. I discovered recently that I don’t really wear the short-sleeved t-shirts that I have, I wear sleeveless in the summer and long sleeved in the winter. I think they are so inexpensive and can be so “cute” that it’s just too easy to buy a lot of them, especially logo, novelty or design ones. I never did the band tee, and am really tired of seeing them.

  • @gillianm9367
    @gillianm9367 2 года назад

    I do sometimes buy the same item in different colours but only if I'm certain I will wear them. A good example is a tshirt which was available in 12 colours but I just bought the cool blue, navy and fuschia pink. However if I really love an item I will occasionally buy 2 of my favourite colour - example jeans- I always prefer dark indigo so never buy the other shades available 👕👖😊

  • @lisedubois9198
    @lisedubois9198 3 года назад +4

    I used to be completely guilty of the multiple colors thing 🙈
    I would like a top and buy two, three, four colors of the same item ! And inevitably, I would end up always reaching for one color over all others and wear the other ones on rare occasions, thinking "ha ! I knew it was a good idea to buy it in multiple colors" 😅😅
    I also have to work on the "off feeling" on some pieces, the example you gave with your sneakers really made me think about a couple of pieces in my closet, I have trouble decluttering them because it has worked so well, but the truth is, if I can't make them work now I just shouldn't hang on to them
    Thanks again for a great video ❤️

    • @jurysdykcja
      @jurysdykcja 3 года назад +1

      I don't know if this is the rule though - that you never get back to old favorites. I have multiple pieces, that i have abandoned for long periods of time (like 5 years?) just to once again make them my staples when the trends change etc.. It happens for me most often with shoes and purses, but I also have some coats and skirts stashed in boxes because i am sure, that one day I will probably get back to wearing them.

    • @lisedubois9198
      @lisedubois9198 3 года назад

      @@jurysdykcja I guess it doesn't have to be for everyone. But I can tell for sure that my personal style have changed soooooo much over the past years. I think now that I invest in more quality, timeless pieces, I wouldn't get rid of them event though I get tired of them, but up until recently the pieces I bought were just too cheap and too style specific to be upcycled I think

    I also look much better in a cool white than warmer (yellowish) cream/ivory (I have Summer coloring, the “soft white” suggested in the palette is a slightly grayed-down one, not a yellowish one). The problem is finding items that really are white. I have ordered so many items listed as white that turned out to be every color from pale yellow to light brown, I’m frustrated. I looked forever for a white cotton sweater, finally I found a beauty at Ralph Lauren. Both white and ivory used to be available in most brands and items, but they decided to save money by combining them into that grubby-looking, yellowish ivory color, yuck. I’ve given up on brands that don’t offer white, like Everlane - my recent “Canvas” color sweater purchase that looked white, is an ugly mud brown, it looked white in the photo and the name suggests white. Brands use filters in virtually all their photos to brighten colors.

    Things that I’m just not comfortable in and don’t really work for me, no matter how much I try! Loafers. I really love my Sam Edelman loafers with the gold bit on them… But, I always find they are just too shiny and attractive in an area I don’t want to be. I might look for a softer black with no hardware on them because they are so comfortable! But every time I wear them I feel a bit off. White sneakers are starting to work out that way as well. I find myself blending into much with the young adults and teens at my church when I wear them. I may opt for a different kind of white sneaker then the style I have which corresponds with the style they wear. I feel a little juvenile when I wear them certain places. Color theory is absolutely vital for everyone. I find there are many colors I like but have a hard time finding and warm tones such as lighter blue and olive green. I’m also starting to work away from T-shirts as well. I find that they just are not as flattering on my arms. I do have a few T-shirts though that have longer sleeves that cover up my upper arm and I find very flattering, so I do have those. But definitely not as many shirts as I used to have! I find that I wear tanks in the summertime or lightweight long sleeves throughout the year. I don’t like my arms being exposed to sun so much and having to put on sunscreen!

I tried to do that as I'm a slightly warm Neutral but honestly as long as the colors are muted I seem to be able to get away with wearing a variety of warm and cool colours. It’s important (style-wise:) to stick to that cool-toned hues only next to your face, the bottom pieces or acccessories, that are far from your face, can be a different (warm) tone, because they don’t influence how your face/skin looks next to them.
    Sure, you have your rules, so I am not saying you should change them, it’s your wardrobe!, it’s just that the warm-toned camel color of your bag (nowhere next to your face) does not interfere with this rule, if it matches the color scheme of your outfit etc.

    I think there are some colors that can’t really be made cool (or warm). Yellow, orange and orangey reds are just never going to come in cool versions, the warmth of the basic hue, determined by the wavelengths of light they reflect, precludes that. Periwinkle blue (purplish blue), and blue greens (aqua, turquoise) are just never going to be warm.

      For yellow there is a cool variant I think, lime yellow with a touch of cool green in it, like an unripe lemon.

    V necks.... they don't look bad but I find them nowhere near as flattering as a boat neck or a turtle neck. Feel so much more feminine...
