Hadjo Khan “not allowed” is too strong of a word to describe it. You CAN and occasionally SHOULD confess to other people, like to the police, to your family, or to anyone you want. What you are not allowed to do is pardoning other people of their sins or trying to remove and forgive their sins because that’s not your job to do. Our sins would be accounted for after we die for Allah to decide whether you’re going to heaven or hell. I think that’s what Qur’an says according to my interpretation.
Jiggahata1 agreed, every religion is basically the same. There’s no point of comparing religions to see which one is better. What matter is who you are as a person, not your religion, race, or origin.

As a Lutheran I don't really get why you need a confession with a priest either when you can have the direct line. I tried once though (the Lutheran equivalent which is very optional) and I guess one positive is that the pastor gave me advice on how to improve. But you can get that in a conversation as well.

chinarace it may say "In God we trust" on the back of the dollar bill, but one of the core tenants of our country is dedicated to the protection to freely practice any religion of your choosing. We also have separation of church and state specifically so that our land will never be governed by the laws of a certain religion. So it is impossible for the promotion of Muslims or even a crack against Catholicism (or any other religion) to be grounds that someone thus has an anti-American agenda. It's the most American thing in the world. Freedom to speech (and using said free speech to speak words about religion no less - without censor).

It’s so cool to see a show entirely about being a first generation child of religious immigrant parents. I’m not muslim or arab but I’m catholic and hispanic and I’m grappling through the same things that are in this show. It’s very real and still humorous. Glad this perspective is getting some representation in the media now

As a younger Catholic confession is pretty dope now. You mostly just go in and talk to an older person about how you've been messing up and they reassure you that it's gonna be okay. Like a therapy sesh
The "yeah" is acknowledging the merit of the question, and the "no" is the response to the question.
As a muslim I must admit I find it interesting that you can just share your sins and then someone will tell you that you are forgiven just like that.
@@ImTheCookieMonster95 it's a little more involved actually. You do have to be repentent and sorry for the sin committed. They reassure you that's it doesn't make you a bad person and the act of feeling guilty for it actually means you have a good tendencies. It helps you get perspective on issues that seem like the end of the world, which is very helpful, especially as a young person first going
I personally think there should be an atheist version of confession. It cleanses you and makes you a better person step by step.

I like Colbert, but here he seemed not too comfortable in having an openly muslim dude as a guest. The Donald Trump thing was hilarious, but seemed going over Colberts head.
As a Christian women who married an Arabic Muslim Man in the late 90's I love this show. Do the Ramadan was the part of one episode that cracked me up. Also the little guy telling him to yell Ali Akbar (sorry for bad spelling) while he is kicking the door down was so awesome. Just love the show. Even from my Christian perspective.

I understand that he was talking in comedic way but I wish he make a correct and unambiguous statement regarding to Friday prayer. We Muslims pray 5 times a day, everyday, NOT only on Friday prayer. Through our prayer, we ask forgiveness to God and we show it through our deeds.

He comes off as more cultural/spiritual rather than religious to me, the same way Colbert's faith is a lot more personal than dogmatic. It seems he understands it's not his job to educate others, and it's more about your fear that he'll present bad optics for or partially open public windows into your faith.

I'm a muslim brought up in western civilisation and i watch this and enjoy the introspection and light heartedness in making what hes saying relatable to all, whilst showing that unified love we should have to all... then we got a whole load of brothers trying to get an ego boost by showing how much they know and correcting everything he says, and adding a whole lot more. This makes it hard for any Muslims to grow when people like this are yanking you down all the time for being wrong, espeachially when its people from a similar background to you. Hes not there to preach hes there to show that muslims are human too, in a world where label are becoming more common. Support eachother stop bringing everyone down and criticizing anyone whos making a difference.
