I was born in Kuwait and gone through the same hoops and hurdles as this man and to see him on stage @ the late show with stephen colbert is an achievement on it's own. Nothing but blessings and a standing ovation for his continued success on his journey.

That whole ESL part is super true. I'm Indian and they put in the ESL class in 3rd grade thinking I couldn't speak English properly. I was born in the US. This was in Texas too. The other kids were hella nice to me though.

I'm a US Army Brat. We spent some years in The Netherlands after my dad got out of the Army, when he was working for General Dynamics out of Fort Worth, Texas. When we got back home to Texas and enrolled us kids in school, I was placed as a sophomore in high school and my brother was placed as a freshman. Because I answered the intake questionnaire honestly, stating that I spoke English natively, Dutch fluently, and German and French spottily, and that the language most used at home was a mishmash of these languages, plus certain Chinese phrases picked up from our Dad (who had been sent to Chinese Mandarin Language School when he first joined the Army before meeting our mother), and that we called this mishmash "Youngese", the school decided that I needed to be in ESL. I talked my way out of it, but they put my kid brother in ESL as well. It took a while to get it straightened out for both of us.

But the original movement for a jewish state in the early 20th century was called the Zionist movement, so modern anti-semitism aside, stating the Israel-Palestine conflict is because of the Palestinian mandate the British promised to both the British Zionist movement and the Arabs during WW1 is just a fact, you could blame the Ottomans but even that would be a stretch.
It works for the joke, but calling someone racist for stating facts is just ignorant, even if those facts were presented pretty poorly.

Tom Knezovic The comedian is half right. Zionism before the second world war just wasn't popular with the majority of Jews, who either considered themselves as citizens of European countries, or if they emigrated went to America or Australia or wherever. I'm one quarter Jewish, and my family went from Russia to Australia, New Zealand and Chicago (via the UK). The Holocaust provided the real impetus for many Jews to emigrate to Palestine, and also rightly or wrongly legitimised the idea of a Jewish state in the eyes of the many in the international community. So in that sense it was correct for the comedian to say it was the fault of Germany.

Joking is a great way of dealing with all his misfortune. I'm sure all that "baggage" makes a guy think about it when is trying to sleep in rainy days. Turning frustration into comedy when we see it causing so much hate in so many people is an achievement I respect. All good for Mo Amer and honestly, he's funny.

I'm aware that Manolis Krestas was repeating what Mo Amer said at the end, and I wasn't originally commenting on that, but, for the record, the Israel-Palestine problem is only partially Germany's fault. Germany has some indirect responsibility due to giving surviving Jews a very good reason to want to flee Europe and making the Allied Powers feel that they owed the Jews a home in the Middle East after the horrors they had gone through in the Holocaust. However, Britain and America are more directly responsible for screwing Palestinians out of a country. It was the British, with America's full political and military support, that promised the Jews land that wasn't theirs to give and then forcefully took it over on the Jews' behalf without caring about the innocent people that had been living there for over a millennium since the Jews were expelled by the Romans.

For some reason, a lot of newer comedians are like that, content is mostly better than delivery. Right now, comedy seems to be in the opposite state to the movies, and I feel that it's somehow for the best.
