If you’re using sweet peas I don’t think it’s necessary. I didn’t really see the peas she used at the beginning though but try it and add it to your taste 🤷🏾♀️ can’t hurt to experiment
Because this pariruclar tends to be "rak" as they sah it here I think it means bitter not sure, so they add sugar to counter the taste. I notice it's more a tradition of the south region of Haiti
