    Hey hey! Thanks so much for watching! Please remember I’m canning and preserving what I feel is best for my family and what I feel is safe. I don’t follow the “rules and guidelines” 100%! I don’t share canning tutorials on my channel and probably never will, because people can be very rude if you aren’t following the “rules”. You do wants best for your family ❤
    #reposted: You might wake up tomorrow and the grocery stores could be closed. Until that day I will still shop in store, but I’m also putting up and preserve food in different ways to still be able to provide for my family! This isn’t something that happens over night. It’s a mindset. It’s an investment. I didn’t grow up around canning and preserving food, but I’m so happy I have the skills to do it now and I’m learning new skills everyday. I can’t wait to grow a garden next summer!Like I say “ It doesn’t have to be homemade, home grown, home canned to be providing for your family!!” There is nothing wrong with store bought foods! I will never stop shopping at grocery stores as long as they are available to me.

      I have a small 2 bedroom apartment with 3 special needs kids a disabled mom and an 80 yr old father..it is hard finding the space, I wish I could get all my home canned goods in the one closet in the one bedroom..I have those type of wire racks myself and the good sturdy ones cost me almost $200..it takes a bit of up-front costs but the better ones are your best bet.

      You are miles ahead of the herd, just stay there eh?
      We who prepare are such a small percentage of the population yet I see more and more people jumping onto the prepper wagon.
      I can only pray my community is prepared knowing that the vast majority are not and I'd be "crazy" for bringing it up.
      Good luck.

    I am so excited to have found this community! Growing up homeless and with food insecurity I have always been one to “stock up” when I see a good sale on our regular food stuffs. My husband called it hoarding until Covid lockdown.. not only did we have enough to sustain us through the lockdown, but we had enough to help several other people during lockdown. You’re all doing a great job!!!

    This will help you so much to have it closer and accessible. You are doing an amazing jar at canning. I think it is smart to have layers of food in our pantries. I thank you for all the recipes you share with us. I wanted to share with you a fun thing with canning pork and also chicken. I make my dry rub mix up and I coat my meat in it before I place in the jar. It is so delicious, I can eat it right out of the jar as is, or with bbq sauce, ect. I dont do all of it like that, but It is just another option for choices on the self, like having beans and chili. You are amazing Tamara, I enjoy your channel. God bless

    Did 25# of ground beef on New Year weekend; and just finished almost 10# of chuck roast into 7 qts of pot roast.
    We don't care for raw pack, so I season /marinade, and brown it. Really adds flavor. I did the same when pressure cooking, and it works for us.
    I love ❤️ the pantry room! We did the same to the front/company room, when the preps outgrew the extra shelving I appropriated in March 2019.

    My farmer elder friend took the trip over the six hour drive to shut owner vent off to our store room and to get wall foam inn to keep my foods at it's set temp. No sunlight it's bad for your food. Not kidding food will go yuck in can's if stored to long if there to much light and temps off. Do not set on your jars it will pop them. Use another built shelf by wood blocks and shelf. I've learned everything from the lady's in western Eastern Oregon. I believe elders know better then me at 57 this way my daughter learns more. But jar's as half gallon will be hard to get as I had a hard time at buying 40 of them. Dehydrated foods are everything. But get a book on how to cook it before there sold out.

    We use totes keeps everything clean and easy to load up to donate or fill a vehicle if we have to bug out. And keeps the grandkids out of toxic stuff. Canning salt sugars liquids can be deadly as well as cleaners.its easier to canner up in winter. Hit those bins in the market and stores those are your canner foods in bulk. And you can use juice, soda in jelly so get those vases of juice, frozen juice and sodas best is kroger cause you can get kroger brand pop like pineapple, ginger ale, strawberry etc mix those flavors woth juice, & real berries or fruit. So we hit those bins filling big aldi bags with bin in season fruits veg peppers onions. Be creative salsas, cracks, vinegars, jelly, juices, even bulk beans and dehydrator i& freezer tems like corn, fruits, tomatoes, mushrooms. Don't think that the store isn't better than markets they have bins of organic, bags of small run A veg. Rings fir jars can go on wire hangers or gallon bags or freezer soup containers, cottage cheese cartons hold them well to

    Just an FYI don't store water in milk jugs. Vinegar or juice jugs are more sturdy. Or get ya a couple 55 gal food grade barrels treat with bleach and a hand pump. Your canned hoods are great but in CANS don't store a lot of tomatoes or pineapple oranges the metal will leach from the can. Home Canned are in JARS not cans. Ya I know now I'm being a picky know it all. Hood job on everything else. You can also use pop bottles to store up extra rice, beans, oatmeal etc with an oxy absorber in each. Even rice a roni.

I live in the south where temps in the garage far exceed 100 degrees fahrenheit in warmer months.I know paper products can be stored in the garage and we do have a freezer like you have in the garage also. We moved to a kitchen with a better layout but less storage space so I literally have no room for food storage in the kitchen minus what in in the refrigerator and refrigerator freezer. As of now we are using an old DVD rack as storage and also a couple of boxes. We bought a house but it has no pantry. Our apartment had a pantry but I'd rather own my house than rent. Ideas appreciated. Also I we are a disabled couple who has trouble bending over and walking one soon to be wheelchair bound if it keeps going like it is. So that needs to get taken into consideration as well. I am at a loss.

      You aren’t supposed to store any type of food or water in a garage because of the change in temperatures. Food/water should be stored in a steady 50-70 degrees! Check out my how to build a prepper pantry video for ideas on how to store when you don’t have a lot of space!

      Food should be stored in a steady 50-70 degrees, it is. Vents are closed. The room is dark and not in direct sunlight. You wouldn’t be able to see anything, so I use my box light and open the curtains for filming. Thanks for watching.

    I want to learn how to can. I helped my Great Aunt and Grandma with picking stuff out of the garden and snapping green beans. My Grandma pressure cooked so I was not allowed to help with that due to safety as I was a child. Why do you not have any rings on any of your jars?

    • @SouthernWifeEverydayLife
      @SouthernWifeEverydayLife  Год назад +5

      Because the lid can come unsealed without you knowing and the food can go bad. You always want to store without the rings, so you can see if a jar has came unsealed. The rings are only for the process to hold the lids on till they seal.

      Just start stocking. Honestly! Luke thought I was crazy when I talked about it. I did it anyways and after we had to live off of it for a couple of months he realized how important it was. Now he helps. More of stocking up on bull€ts, camping supplies, bug out, etc but it still helps!

    I have no funds for a freeze dryer, I don't have a dehydrator, and sadly I don't know how to can foods.... please help teach me how to can. I should have paid more attention to my momma, gram, and Aunt C when they tried to teach me before they passed. In my defense I was young and stupid and never thought that our world would be what it is today. Also I'm disabled and have no way to grow things for myself. Thank you in advance.

      You don’t NEED any of that to have food security! You can stock up from what’s at the grocery store. If you want to learn to can just type it into RUclips search and 1000+ videos will come up! I taught myself from watching videos on RUclips and tiktok. You can also find canning books!

    Can you explain why the eggs can't be fried? Just curious.

    • @SouthernWifeEverydayLife
      @SouthernWifeEverydayLife  Год назад +1

      The yolk doesn’t hold up, so it kinda mixes in with the whites as it sits in the pickling lime over time. ❤️ if you fried it, it wouldn’t hold up to be a soft runny yolk if that makes sense.

    I'm new to canning. So can I use Ball jars with a different brand lid? Also, why do some jars have rings and some don't, do certain food need the rings to stay on? Thanks for all your help in this new adventure of canning!

    • @SouthernWifeEverydayLife
      @SouthernWifeEverydayLife  Год назад

      Yes, you can use any brand lids and jars! None of my sealed shelf stable jars have rings. You don’t leave the rings on because if the lids come unsealed you can’t see it and the lids can come unsealed then reseal because of the ring, so that causes false seals. Happy Canning!

    • @angelal6700
      @angelal6700 Год назад

      Also, when take those rings off and GENTLY wash your jars because of siphoning, while they are still warm.
      And when prepping your jars and lids B4 filling them, CHECK for chipped rims, and I have been getting new Ball lids that the rim lip is folded under!!
      Classico spaghetti sauce jars fits the reg. canning lids.
      A GOOD oven glove, heavy duty jar gripper, so both hands are protected.
      And keep notes of what works for you.
