What a lovely house and enclosure! You've done a great job and Afia looks as if she's made herself at home already 😊

Loved it. She's the only lady up with you we have not managed to see yet... let's hope we get back up again soon in 2024. I grew up with zoos of the 1970s, I'd never go back to that, you good people are the way forward.

Sadly don't think she's a breeding animal but used a awareness of the breed if I remember when she moved from hamerton who couldn't look after her

    Hi Maxine,
Another well thought out enclosure for such a beautiful animal. Afia looked as though she was just about to step out onto the catwalk, she is indeed an elegant animal. Do wish people would stop trading them, they really do need a good large enclosure such as you have built here.
Fingers crossed you can find her a mate and then perhaps we can all see some young ones. Keep up the excellent work.

Thank you, she is stunning and so well composed. The trade is awful, we hope the government change the laws.. but won’t hold our breath 😞 fingers crossed we can get Afia a friend at least 🤞🏻

Old comment, but what is mostly concerning to me about the comercial/pet trade of servals is the question of how many are directly caught from the wild and thus currently removing pieces of an ecosystem, and how bug the genepool of pet servals really are as a result.
Otherwise, it gets really silly to single out charismatic animals and hybrids when nobody bats an eye at Ball Pythons or Corn Snakes, who are decidedly not domestic and have only started to be kept as pets in the 80's and really only took off after an albino ball python was born in 1991. Hell, even the Syrian Golden hamster didn’t start taking off as a pet untill the 50’s and acts identical to its wild counterpart.
I’m not debating their poor treatment, but we don’t ban people from owning dogs just because misinformed or lazy people regularly lock their huskies in their tiny apartment and then wonder why they go crazy from understimulation.
It’s maybe amplified in uncommon pets, but it’s not exclusive and something improoveable.
This isn’t as much an argument in favour of promoting keeping Servals nilly willy, as much as it is about the consistency of which it is being argued against. I hardly have a dog in this race, and I am mostly really just asking what really makes pet Servals worse to keep over common undomesticated pets.
