His album is basically about him getting back focused because the label keep pressuring him to put out an album, because he was being sluggish and not doing much music because he started getting deep into drugs and hoes etc.

Isaiah was addicted to Xanax after the release of civilian demo. It got so bad Top Dawg told him if he doesn't sober up he's gunna drop him from the label. He stopped making music during this time, that's why there was such a gap after cilvia demo. Maybe that explains Kendricks first couple lines, mentoring Isaiah Rashad.

Love how George called out Kendricks presence on his features. This is actually something where i think this is where you can see that he is one of the best,if not the best. His presence on his features is insane, he makes the song so different. A very good example for that is his feature on Rhapsody-Power ft kendrick Lamar . The way he comes in on that just shows why he is so good.

    So. Fucking. True.
Isaiah kills it when it comes to becoming one with the beat. And his selection is perfect. He knows exactly what type of beats to use.

Very good advice with using your voice as an instrument instead of letting the beat ride you. If you cut off the beat with Kendrick his flow itself has it's own beat so he doesn't even NEED it. A lot of rappers today, even the decent ones ride the beat so they ultimately don't stand out and fade away with the beat.

I had heard Kendrick was a prodigy so I checked him out for the first time today, binging good kid, m.A.A.d. city and I must say he is a true poet and a virtuous lyricist. Even his small part of this song is incredibly deep and very intelligently phrased. It feels like an ancient wise man of god like Noah or Enoch is speaking any time he opens his mouth. I have unending respect for him not only as an artist but, as his music conveys, but as a person. He speaks about doing good for other people and watching what you do.

Y'all were on point with deciphering the lyrics, great job. What I really dig about this song (or better yet, the whole album) is that it's a representation of the true southern hip hop sound. Every time I listen to this joint, it reminds of Outkast or Eightball & MJG during the Suave House era. Kendrick used to be my favorite out of TDE but ever since Isaiah dropped Cilvia Demo and The Sun's Tirade, he's become my favorite out the TDE camp.

I usually leave a lengthy comment, but before I even watch the video...THANK YOU so much for doing Isaiah Rashad! Unpopular opinion, but he is my favorite in TDE, and as with Ab Soul, he doesn't get the credit deserved. Thanks for the honesty, passion, and as always, great discussions. Have a wonderful and safe weekend! #freethinkers Background information -- Rashad was heavy into Xanax and other substances, and almost lost his deal with TDE over it. Kendrick told him he HAD to get sober or he had to go. And he battled his demons, and became sober. So how you seen Kendrick as the mentor on this track is so spot on, and why I respect you guys so much.
Oh, and he is from Tennessee if you didn't know. So the southern interpretation was spot on. He brings such a different style to TDE, and I think how him and Kendrick both use their vocals, outside of the lyrics, is masterful.

Yo I love this album! Also gotta say that I've just started following you guys and I like the way you break down the lyrics and give honest, consistent feedback.
If I could shoutout my favorite rappers currently......Kendrick Lamar, Isaiah Rashad, Lil Dicky, Anderson Paak, always B.I.G. always Jay Z, and always Outkast!!

Love the reactions you guys have! lyricism is my entire reason for hitting up rap and hip hop.
On that note, please check out:
    Sell Out by Lecrae.
It's one of my all time favorite lyrical masterpieces. Short song with a ton of intellect and density.
    Much Love! Keep killin' it.

I really fw yall cuz you actually stop to explain what they just said or to talk about what you think about it. Rather than keeping the song going and talking through it or saying nothing with a dumb face like some other channels

yall missed the biggest part of kendrick's lyrics, he gave is last albums residuals to his old high school to help fund the music program and to help Compton and didn't tell anyone. it wasn't till vice/noisey did an interview on kendrick that it came out. Kendrick is a legend!!!!!!

I discovered this album when you shared that 20 second clip of "AA" in the intro of a video. I fell in love from that little snippet of song. Never actually watched the rest of your video... fell down the Isaiah Rashad rabbit hole and haven't come out yet. I've been listening to The Sun's Tirade every day since. It's the most solid album I've heard in recent years. Love it. Thanks for the heads up on that. Great reaction too! I'd say that your interpretation is pretty accurate. Struggles with drugs, depression, and self-doubt seem to be major themes of the album.
