Dude, this guy has been my hero for like 4 or 5 years now. He is the reason I'm going into engineering! Probably one of my favorite quotes from him goes something like this: "You shouldn't do something just because that's how it's always been done; you should do things because that's the best way to do them." Incredible, incredible man.

Great interview. Kevin Rose does a fantastic job of asking questions and letting Elon respond. He does an artful job of evoking Elon into telling the story and stays out of the way. Good job. I want to hear him do another interview of Elon in the future as time and Tesla grow up.
Agreed. I've seen many Musk interviews and usually the journalists have clear done no research on their subject which is just so rude and disrespectful but Musk is always so gracious and patient with their ignorance and laziness
I think this is one of the best interview done with Elon Musk. It's candid and hence unearths a lot of useful insights from the mind of Elon Musk. Well done @Kevin Rose!
He is a great inspiration for young entrepreneurs and students. Actually one of the top role models for startups and businesses.I like his simplicity and attitude towards others. KEEP IT UP SIR.
He is just unstoppable. This guy has inspired me the most. He's the reason I got unending interest and curiosity physics & space science. LOVE you Elon. Thanks for everything. ❤🚀🌌
Did you surround yourself with mentors? Who did you look to for advice? EM: "I read a lot of books and talk to lots of people" " I always look for feedback from people around me"
I concur. One guy bringing tons of positive change and disrupting bloated and unhealthy industries. He is an inspiration for all the rest of us who want to make this world a better/saner/safer/healthier place
I honestly was unaware that Elon was the founder of PayPal. I will now start using it again, as I will ALWAYS support a fellow like-minded libertarian with great business practices.
Actually, Elon admitted that the way PayPal is going now, is really bad. It is still the way it was when he sold it, it even still has the same scripting errors he made and never got around to fix. You won't be supporting Elon by using PayPal one bit. You do support him by buying Tesla stocks!
DeSjeft I actually made that comment while still uninformed about the fact that Elon sent out emails thanking people for supporting the stimulus. He is no libertarian.
By far, Kevin Rose is one of the best interviewers I've seen - he's sincerely and genuinely inquisitive and he LISTENS. He doesn't inject his opinion or his own commentary-I wanted to hear more from Elon Musk and Rose elicited that out. Great examples was when he asked what books Elon read and an example of reasoning from first principles.
VERY inspirational. Key point--seek negative feedback! Keep your ego in-check and listen to critics and be sure those issues are dismissed or dealt with. What a humble, personable guy! I became an aero-nut when I was a kid on Kwajalein watching ABM launches in the late 60's... I'd love to be a part of team SpaceX (you've got a great future ahead of you) but instead will remain a cheerleader and watch your accomplishments. New-grads and areo-nuts get on board with thes guys!!
Elon Musk will be man of the Century. He might be the most creative human since Beethoven and I'm happy that such a mind has the chance to make his vision a reality.
Too short, Elon sounds like an incredibly smart and creative thinker, would love to hear much more on his thoughts on the automotive industry, battery development and just the world in general.
You can tell Elon is genuinely moved by the vigil that the EB1 costumers had for the discontinuation of the car. This is the reflection of a man who's truly inspired by technology and it is apparent in his companies which are highly successful in what they do.
Elon is awesome, thank you for this great interview Kevin! :) it is so sad that this kind of videos have such a low rate of views compared to lady gaga/rihanna( you name it) videos :(
How does this podcast only have 365K views? this podcast has so much knowledge in it! its was great to see what Elon was like in the early ages of Tesla and his other companies!
I could`nt agree more with your well thought out comment. Its the first iv`e seen of Kevin Rose but it will not be the last. You nailed it when you say that he LISTENS,for sure he does and as a result of this, the interview flowed so well. Keep well and please keep posting comments. Sincerely JF ( UK )
I love the way his mind works. Gotta admit that the idea of asking friends what they don't like about your product/service is excellent advice for new entrepreneurs. Gotta develop some thick skin to succeed as one.
Elon Musk is such an inspirational person and you can see how much passion he has for his ideas from this video. Also interesting was that around 12:15, he describes General Motors killing their electric car ignoring the wishes of the car owners and he seems to get emotional to the point where his voice cracks.
VeganBrawn The one that he did mention was from Walter Isaacson called Benjamin Franklin: An American Life. Don't think he mentioned any others by name.
His favourite books : *Benjamin Franklin by Isaacson *Einstein:his life and universe by Isaacson *Lord of the rings *Zero to one by Peter Thiel *The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
I REALLY want Tesla to make a basic Sedan, or Prius style hatchback, (the cheapest/most aero dynamic design he can make) that will comfortably seat 4 people who are 6'6" and has heated leather, power windows/locks, cruise control and remote entry. Cut costs everywhere else, I don't need a damn computer in my car. I don't even want rim's larger than 16", tires cost too damn much and because of the short sidewall shitty roads feel even worse. I wonder if THAT would get the price of an electric car down to the point where I could actually afford one. I think it would.
This was so great. I hope one day Kevin interviews me. Assuming aomeone will fork the VC funding, already have investors in other aspects of the company
"Elon. You promise you're not going to wear a black shirt and jeans? Last time we were both wearing the same thing and it was really embarrassing." "Yes, Kevin. I promise."
This was an excellent interview. However, I wonder where he got the money to just burn on ventures. Yes, we would all like to do that - funding sources? The buzzing in the background was extremely distracting, anyway to separate that audio out?
No, he's got a point. I used to run a camera team for a community television network and so have had some training in this field. "Crossing the line" is principle mahadragon is referring to. Yes, of course you can tell who's who, it's not difficult to figure out. The point is you shouldn't have to "figure it out", there's a language of visual queues that's been developed over time so that it's immediately obvious and takes no effort, allowing you to give your attention entirely to the material.
"Ok! I must have, I must have put a decimal point in the wrong place or something. Shit. I always do that. I always mess up some mundane detail." -Office Space (1999) From avoiding program failures to space explosions, I bet Musk is a precise person. He's like the president of technology.
I wish this interview was as in-depth as the other ones. Elon's such an interesting and important entrepreneur that he really deserved more time. That said, it seemed as though it was Elon that was short on time... unsurprising!
Hi Kevin, could I please use your interview footage between 1.30-2.30min where Elon talks about his Commodore VIC-20, on the Commodore Computer Museum X channel?

elon is a good person i mean how many billionaires use their money like he does, meaning hes basically using some of his riches to better humanity instead of blowing it on meaningless shit like most rich ppl do. The tesla i think will set off for sure in a few years, the distance you can go on a 45 minute charge is amazing.
sorry, english is not my native. In 4:00 he said that he didn't get a job in netscape, and what is next?? I listened to this a few times, but I do not understand...:(
Love Elon back here, less alien, less strange. Tesla built a grand total of 5000 cars in 2012. In 2019 Tesla built a whopping 367,500 cars... thats 73.5x growth. What an absolute amazing achievement by Elon and the entire Tesla team.

It's weird that they're both wearing basically the same thing.
Char Aznable i just realized that, nice spot lol
They were probably like "hey twins!"
This was my very first thought when the clip started.
Very Steve Jobs inspired
I think the interviewer might already requested Elon to wear this combination

Amazing interviewer for sure. Doesn't interrupt and just lets Elon talk.

Kevins gotta crush lol
What? He interrupts him all the time.

This is probably the best interview they’ve made with Elon

Love the fact he learned and relied on books. Same thing I have been doing. Priceless.

To be honest, the situation was way more complex than that. It was ignorant of me to be so simplistic about it.
Great interview. Informative, down to earth, inspiring, insightful, etc.
Mark P etc? 😂
Elon is smart guy. I believe he truly wants to make a difference. He has already made an impact on humanity and I'm sure he will continue to do so.

awesome interview! awesome backdrop! Elon is an inspiration and a hero.
There should be a comic book about him. He's a real superhero!
The interviewer was very good. Got more detail from him than most interviewers do.
Simply brilliant and entertaining interview. Would love to work for the guy at Tesla.
hehe i can see little hearts in Kevin's eyes
This was a great episode, talking to people who brought products to market is great.

That was a really great interview - I like that you asked more interesting questions than the typical 'why, how, where, when' etc.
Kevin makes a good and natural interviewer !!
Two of my biggest inspirations in the same room. Hope to one day achieve their level of innovation and brilliance
Really sweet comment. I love how you put that. 💕

love it! Thanks Kevin!
Elon Musk is truly inspiring - a hero of mine, and I'm not an entrepreneur. He's like a vastly improved Jobs, and he seems pretty grounded.
First Foundation video I've watched. Brilliant. Thank you KR!
Good job amazing interview 👍❤️❤️❤️

Love Foundation, the description has two typos though, "if" should be "is" and "Telsa" should be "Tesla"
What were the autobiography book recommendations by Elon?
VeganBrawn The one that he did mention was from Walter Isaacson called Benjamin Franklin: An American Life. Don't think he mentioned any others by name.

Instead of labeling him a geek, even though he has some eccentric qualities, how about you call him what he really is, a visionary genius.
Elon Musk is a hero... the guy is helping humanity advance faster than anyone I can think of.
I thought it was "Tesla" rather than Telsa.
What's with the black shirts,!?
The best quote is: "Optimism, pessimism, fuck that; we're going to make it happen. As God is my bloody witness, I'm hell-bent on making it work."
Need to see the raw uncut version. So weird for Musk to tell about his upbringing and then "What were your favorite comics?"
This was so great. I hope one day Kevin interviews me. Assuming aomeone will fork the VC funding, already have investors in other aspects of the company
I LOVE ELON MUSK SIR ALTHOUGH HE WAS BULLIED SAME AS ME HE WON AT LAST
You are #1 model for everyone who have visions to improve the world for humanity.. God bless. ❤❤❤❤❤
Good questions, liked the answers too
Wonderful Interview with Kevin & Elon 🎖️
Elon Musk is incredibly brilliant. He is one of the most innovative human beings that walks the earth.
Great work as always Kevin.
Elon is 50 years ahead of any entrepreneur today in vision, creativity and balls.

Great job Kevin, Good to see you after diggnation!
Thanks for posting this Kevin Rose. Great interview!
Mr. Musk is an overachiever. He can be proud of himself. And grateful for the gift of his brilliant/creative mind, a beautiful mind!

Thank you Kevin for that interview! Great work man
Honest, humble, and down to earth guy. That's what I call Swag. Not that fake bullshit most people do these days.
I think in this case it's done because they want you to go through the site...and not directly to youtube. Agreed on Elon....he rocks.

Hi Kevin, could I please use your interview footage between 1.30-2.30min where Elon talks about his Commodore VIC-20, on the Commodore Computer Museum X channel?
vic20 had 5kb ram, but about 3kb was usable for the user (OS and overhead ate up nearly 2kb) i think
I totally believe in him as a person.
