  • In this video we are using the Wah Wah Pedal Effect and building a Funk Clavinet sound on the YC88, YC73, YC61 series of keyboards using the Pedal Wha Effect. I demonstrate how to make a funky clav wah wah pedal sound for the stage or the studio without giving up the bottom end punch in the process.
I'll be uploading the sound used here in the video to the Yamaha Sound Sharing site Sound Mondo so you can download this directly to your own board and tweak to taste.
Here's the Link to the custom sound:

You can also just scan the QR code at the end of the video to go directly to the custom live set sound, via Sound Mondo.
Some great funk clav groove examples from my personal keyboard hero's to check out:

Before watching this video, I saw your clav sound on Soundmondo. I wanted to check it out. However, I’m not certain how to use Soundmondo. I couldn’t access your sound. So, I am happy that you posted this video. As a YC 88 owner, and as a musician, I look forward to your posts!

that's probably a great video suggestion about using SoundMondo. It can be tricky but its such a killer sound resource.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts of why you choose different settings. I have used that same Yamaha pedal for almost 30 years now! But I usually only use it for expression or to adjust the live sound of part A/B or just the organ. I am exciting to get home tonight and try it as a Wah pedal.

This was an excellent walk, through the process of building, a layered sound.
And left me with just the Funk Clav sound, I was wanting to make (but to lazy).
Perfect feel with my Yamaha foot pedal, as I sit when playing.
Still thinking I will add another foot pedal, dedicated to the effects.
And keep my main pedal for volume.
I gig with my Yamha YC-61, and I can't imagine a better keyboard to have on stage with me.
Thanks much for the great video lesson, and best wishes for continued success.

i have a yc88 and i would like to get a looper because i like to improvise; however I don’t know much about this kind of thing. I assume the piano cannot produce a drum beat of any kind so will i need to get a drum sound producer? Sorry for the simple terminology, I’m new to this kind of thing, but if you could help me i’d really appreciate it.

As the iOS integration is SO good on the YC series, you may want to check out Cubasis on the iPad. It is a fully functioning DAW that can do looping as well and it is tightly integrated with the YC series keyboards and everything (including the output of Cubasis) is automatically mix inside the YC and comes out the YC master outputs! And its less than 50 buck!
