So great watching someone who loves Phil and Genesis as much as myself..My late wife would hear me listening to them and say “Your getting your Phil fix”
Phil Collins siempre demostró profesionalismo, con Genesis y como solista. Y en la parte instrumental demostró una vez más, porque es considerado uno de las más grandes bateristas de la historia! 👏👏👏
I great to see some one enjoy Genesis as much as myself, plus I can understand your narrator voice when listening because it’s so catchy and gets ya pumped up, and Ohhhh to have been there at Wembley when they did this performance would have been totally EPIC!!!
This is my favorite live version of Abacab. Even tho it's played a bit to fast, it sounds great. Phil's drumming along with Chester sounds really cool on this song!
I think because they played it faster, especially compared to Three Sides Live, this version is so popular. Abacab is one of those songs that are predestined to show what an excellent live band Genesis were. And they proved they still have it on their Last Domino Tour. We’ll never see the likes of them again…
No way. This is _exactly_ as it should be played. The studio cut was flat and unfinished; 3SL was likewise uninspired, although it was finished. This is brilliance.
Wow very nice live performance it's such a treat watching Phil play the drums I cannot put into words how good he is if I had to pick a few words... Brilliant!! Poetry in motion... A one-of-a-kind drummer!!! I love the way he's really letting Chester know who's boss!!! In this performance..
ABACAB - as it’s referred to A (verse) B (chorus) and C (bridge) was a sonic masterpiece when released in 1981 but when performed in front of 300k people, that was monstrous. They excel in live settings with songs.
This was the beginning of Genesis going more abstract with their concepts. What I love about Genesis is that for most of their career they actively tried to avoid duplicating what they had done before, so many of their songs are unique in their catalogue. I worry sometimes when a reviewer is asked to react to 'Firth of Fifth' right off the bat that they're going to assume that all of their songs are going to sound like 'Firth of Fifth.' But no, there's only one 'Firth of Fifth' -- just like there's only one 'Abacab,' one 'Home by the Sea,' one 'Domino,' and one 'Supper's Ready.' This means there's not a lot of water treading to be found on their albums -- and that's terrific!
I am 60 and I have been listening Genesis since I was 15, and I am still doing it. They are the best band ever for me. I am so glad that you, being much younger than me, could appreciate this great band as well. Greetings from Argentina
When I hear you saying '' I love to learn about songs'', I think you must have 70's 80's mind. Genesis is my most beloved group (Yes is second) and we really wanted to learn more about them, but there was no MTV, internet an so on. Full album sleeve reading was mandatory! Genesis was the first rock concert I ever attend (March 2, 1977 - Montreal Forum). It was blowing and I still have my ticket!
Hey, check out the 1984 mama tour version of Abacab. I think it sounds even better than the studio recording and it’s played at the perfect in my opinion tempo.
Great reaction fella. I was at that concert! I’ve seen a lot of bands Live but my top 3 for leaving with my heart pounding for hours after are 3. Foo Fighters 2. Supertramp 1…Genesis… Great to see youngsters still enjoying classic bands Rock stadiums…✌🏼
Great reaction video! You would have loved first year Mtv. They would play Abacab and No Reply videos all the time. Genesis and Phil Collins early videos. August 1st will be the birthday for Mtv. If they ever made an early Mtv channel, I would pay for this channel. So glad you love Genesis!!!
Yes, Domino. Intense moment when Phil mid song gets up on that podium and sings his heart out. Gives me the same kind of chilling effect as when Peter sang In the Cage. Magic!
I'm sure this is the fastest they have played this live and it sounds fantastic . I saw them 3 times on this tour ,twice in Paris and at roundhey park in Leeds England , what a tour and all 5 of them were at the top of their game !
One of my favorites can never pick One over another as Genesis is so Iconic, Peter was awesome but when he left and Phil stepped up to the mic it was what took them to greater heights!!..Phil was a perfectionist and demanded perfection, always giving fans there monies worth when performing live! He has played with many bands and was always there whenever another artist requested his help in collaborating on a song that’s why he was known as the Ringmaster
This is great stuff. I remember seeing them on this tour like it was yesterday. If you haven’t the chance to watch either the Mama Tour video or the footage from the Duke tour, you should check that out!! Also, Genesis live from Montreux the same year as this concert has a great sound and the In the Cage medley (although not the one from the start of the tour that ended with Supper’s Ready). Thanks for the reactions! I’m enjoying them all.
You can't beat a bit of Phil shaking his maracas! 🤔 Except for when he gets behind the skins, of course! 1987 was an interesting year for Genesis. They were flying high on a crest of a wave with their Invisible Touch album/tour being one of their highest grossing to date! I knew about the, 'abacab', origin. Interestingly, it became a popular noun among taxi firms for a while! Can't think why(!)
Although Abacab is far from my favourite Genesis album, l have to admit this version of its title track is superb. No live at Wembley 87 album was officially released. It was put on DVD (maybe a recent Blu Ray too) but no CD. The only thing was they missed off 'The Cage Medley' Genesis uploaded a HQ video of this concert onto RUclips from the DVD during the UKs lockdown. Being furloughed from work with plenty of time on my hands, I ripped the audio from the youtube concert upload and found a seperate HQ copy of 'The cage medley' from another nights performance at Wembley 87. I edited in the missing medley in its correct place in the set and made a 2 CD set of this concert. It sounds awesome. Lol yes I'm a Genesis nerd. It's also nice to see you young'uns appreciating our old farts music lol. Keep the videos coming... plenty out there to explore!
bit late to the channel and see you've already reacted to"in the cage" but if you have a nose at the mama tour version of "in the cage/afterglow" it has to be one of the greatest performances ever to grace a stage.when phil hits "i would search everywhere" the lights hit a massive pink flume of smoke and the surge of power is jawdropping.my brother had a genesis tribute act "carpet crawlers liverpool" if you want a nose(he's the singer and drummer, does a great gabriel)also was fish in mick pointer's marillion and now has the ELO show liverpool going.can you have a nose at porcupine tree pls(just thinking of epic songs for you haha)sleep together live, anethetize live, fear of a blank planet live, also devin townshend "the death of music live at plovdiv" andfor more epic check iron maiden "the rime of the ancient mariner live after death".king crimson "starless(live in japan 2015) and hawkwind damnation alley, vanilla fudge "you keep me hangin on live" keep it rock young lady and have a nice day
Quick question: do you play drums? Just the curious question I was motivated by Phil many years ago. And that's how I started playing. Drumming is possibly the best thing that's happened to me. He also inspired me to play on seat cushions and bar stools just like his drum duets with chester 😂
This is a great performance! 😍 Anyway, I'd like to say a word in favor of Genesis with Ray Wilson and if I may, suggest you look for the live version of "The Dividing Line." 😉
eine der besten Live-Versionen... speziell der Instrumentalteil ist genial (besser als beim Original auf dem Album) you may listen to some B-Sides? "do the neurotic", "on the shoreline", "feeding the fire", "I´d rather be you" ...all good enough for another Album!
Easily my favorite version. Speeding up the tempo works in the live environment &...really ALL the guys are ON their chops for this one. Expertly & sublimely performed by Phil, Tony, Mike, Chester & Daryl!
Good Afternoon! Can you please react to some Genesis B Side songs "Feeding The Fire and "Evidence of Autumn". I think you will LOVE it! They are really are very underrated songs.
Hi Laurie, Is this Remastered I don't remember it sounding as good as this when I last saw it on RUclips? Love Phil's flowing lock's in this! Cheers Jim, UK X
Personally, what I noticed from most Genesis live performances was that the audience generally stayed relatively still and mostly just clapping to the beat, like they're being mindful to the music, contrary to most rock performances where the audience usually undergo rather strenuous physical activity. Genesis's music tend to mezmerise people I guess..
I’ve found your channel and it’s awesome 👍🏻😎 your love for music is amazing and what we need more 👍🏻 if you like this then check out a song Calle Subdivisions by rush. Keep the videos coming there amazing 🤩
Correct. They used equipment by Sony. The problem with this was the engineers had to change tapes which wasn’t a matter of a few moments. So Genesis chose the part when they played In The Cage/In That Quiet Earth/Afterglow (which replaced parts of Supper’s Ready). I’ll never understand this, because they played four nights at Wembley Stadium after all. IMO it wouldn’t have been a problem to film the In The Cage medley.
If you really break down the lyrics, this song is truly dark. It is definitely about Andrea's 2 affairs. Her first lover was Michael Burberry and then some other guy who worked for British Cellophane. The first verse describes a crime scene, where there is clearly something on the walls, floor, ceiling under the pillow, then he asks "do you think I'm to blame?". Then he talks about someone taking out someone else's girl, but the last verse "When you wake to find you're covered in cellophane", I mean Phil was in a dark place with this song....but of course I LOVE IT💕
Hey have a recommendation for you….really like your honest reactions……..check out Talk Talk “ spirit of Eden” album……..in particular “Desire” off that album…..would love to see your reaction to that……it’s one of my fave albums of all time…..it’s something magical.
This tempo is too fast... Not sure why they decided to speed it up so much. The Lp grooves so much more. But of course I love the double drumming!! . Me being a drummer at all 🤪🤪🤪
You saying that you react to all types of music, I have a group you have not reacted to as far as I can tell. They have been around for 10 years. Check out Pentatonix and I would start with Imagine ruclips.net/video/NLiWFUDJ95I/видео.html. I am not going to say any more about them, but their videos have MILLIONS of views!!
I saw Genesis on this tour and, as always, they were amazing Sometimes live is better than studio I see you are a drummer, so do you think Chester is a better drummer than Phil, I think he just might be! For another live performance, watch Romeo and Juliet by Dire Straights on the Alchemy Tour, then watch Telegraph Road The drumming is amazing (Just the one, Terry Williams)
The best live version. Rythm got faster. So so powerful !!! Abacab means really nothing. Bits named A, B and C gave the name of the song. The lyrics mean absolutely nothing, who cares?
That’s amazing.
So great watching someone who loves Phil and Genesis as much as myself..My late wife would hear me listening to them and say “Your getting your Phil fix”
It’s nice some young people like good bands 😉🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴🏴
NOBODY played like Phil.
Many years ago when I was young I was in that audience at the old Wembley Stadium London England and it was awesome
.
And so was I!!! Life was fun back in the day. 😎😎😎😎
I know I’m in the right place when you’re saying Mike and Tony’s names. Let’s goooooo
Saw this tour, now that I am older feel privileged, these bands are irreplaceable
Phil Collins siempre demostró profesionalismo, con Genesis y como solista.
Y en la parte instrumental demostró una vez más, porque es considerado uno de las más grandes bateristas de la historia! 👏👏👏
I wholeheartedly share your enthusiasm for this version of Abacab. Flawless! Nice Video...Keep em coming! Cheers from Munich, Germany
The fact you are a true fan and know the lyrics is UH-Maze-ing!!!!!!
I great to see some one enjoy Genesis as much as myself, plus I can understand your narrator voice when listening because it’s so catchy and gets ya pumped up, and Ohhhh to have been there at Wembley when they did this performance would have been totally EPIC!!!

This was the European leg of the tour, as the last show had the tempo increase. I have a bootleg of the LA Forum show and it's at normal speed.
excellent
No way. This is _exactly_ as it should be played. The studio cut was flat and unfinished; 3SL was likewise uninspired, although it was finished. This is brilliance.
Oh, I forgot to mention those curls😍 Oh my goodness gracious, Phil was beautiful.
1987, Wembley, Genesis......1 in 4 chance im in that crowd, was at the first of the four dates they played.
the best version of this song with more arrangements of keyboards and a little bit faster. Awesome, amazing. Excelent.
ABACAB - as it’s referred to A (verse) B (chorus) and C (bridge) was a sonic masterpiece when released in 1981 but when performed in front of 300k people, that was monstrous. They excel in live settings with songs.
Thanks for the information you gave about Abacab. Great video !!
Can't wait for my request
I was there ❤️🙏🏻
And your harmonies are A1!!!!!!!!!!!!
Phil had some power in these days. His vocals are so good here.
I saw them on the I Cant Dance tour a few years later. Great stuff
I was there.
saw then glasgow earlier that week.been to hundreds of gigs and genesis is in the top 3
Live killing it..sounds so good..when they do it.... 🎶🙏👊
Love Mike's string of solos on this version. They get in a hypnotic groove and sound so tight, driving to the end. A real jamb.
This was the beginning of Genesis going more abstract with their concepts. What I love about Genesis is that for most of their career they actively tried to avoid duplicating what they had done before, so many of their songs are unique in their catalogue.

Love your start up
this version competes with live Home by the Sea for me as one of my favorites. The whole song is a cornacopia of music to the ears
Brilliant live as most of their songs are
The extended version with Mikes guitar at the end is just brilliant ❤
Hey, check out the 1984 mama tour version of Abacab. I think it sounds even better than the studio recording and it’s played at the perfect in my opinion tempo.

Awesome reaction!! Sounds exactly like the record.. One of my favorites by them..
One of my favourite live pieces, especially at the end when they really rock it. Cheers.
This is the best version of Abacab IMO. Love it. If you haven't already you should react to the version of Domino from the same concert.
Yes, Domino. Intense moment when Phil mid song gets up on that podium and sings his heart out. Gives me the same kind of chilling effect as when Peter sang In the Cage. Magic!
One of my GOAT albums. In my day, I wore out the cassette tape I bought. Live was tight!
track at 1/3 plus... they were in another time... Awesome!
Phil un mostro alla batteria!
This is one of the best performances of Abacab, IMO - a bit more uptempo from the album makes it really jam.
i love this girl. she is great and pretty
Having seen them on this tour I can vouch they were pretty amazing
Wish Chester was with them on the last tour. He is a legendary drummer. Check out his playing with Zappa and Weather Report. Great reaction!
I'm sure this is the fastest they have played this live and it sounds fantastic . I saw them 3 times on this tour ,twice in Paris and at roundhey park in Leeds England , what a tour and all 5 of them were at the top of their game !

As always said - Genesis is the best band in the world ,you are alaways welcome to hear the Masters.
Love this song, saw them on this tour and a few other times. This song could be twice as long and not get tedious at all.
Quick question: do you play drums?
Just the curious question
I was motivated by Phil many years ago. And that's how I started playing. Drumming is possibly the best thing that's happened to me. He also inspired me to play on seat cushions and bar stools just like his drum duets with chester 😂

Please, react to Genesis - Fading Lights (Album version).
*FYI: this was the first ever music concert filmed in high-definition.*
I agree
Also the first gig lit with Varilights, one light with multiple colours.
@@derekclear3913 The Abacab Tour was the very first tour that featured Vari-Lites.

With the lyrics written by Mike, it's unlikely he wrote them about Phil's personal life.

I prefer the 'Three sides live' version, especially Mike's guitar.
Three Sides Live is my #1 album out of all. Live and studio versions included. Genesis has been, and always will be, my favorite band.
.. but I also like some hits too...
From Genesis I like and it's interesting that many of the songs that they were not hits, for me they are more interesting than the hits ....
This tempo is too fast... Not sure why they decided to speed it up so much. The

This is good, but the versions from 1981 and 1984 are better. They are a bit slower and more “rocky” than this version.
