Yeahh I would have like to see some Air CPU Cooler. I am not sure if a decent cooler will work. According to the specs it needs to be lower than 85mm - at that point we are well into Low Profile territory - IMHO the biggest Flaw of the case.

This case is one of the best-looking cases ever! Not very hard to build in if you look at the included instructions, can’t blame Phanteks for you not bother reading it. The case is so much better to look at than other black boxes, like the CM you mentioned in the video. You do not understand RGB support? It’s on everything nowadays, maybe keep up?

Very good video, and timing is perfect. Last week I just installed a full custom loop in my original evolve shift using a full size barrow pump/res mounted externally to the back panel with a 85mm thick 120 rad mounted below and a 30mm 120 rad mounted inside. Wish the shift 2 was more appealing but sounds like I'll be sticking with my original shift.

You can actually buy the mesh panels separately. That's what I did, replaced the glass panels on my Shift 1 and the difference is very noticeable (in a good way). Any extra noise gained from the "open" panels is offset by the loss of noise from the lower temps, at least in my experience.

  • @Cakebattered

Nothing confusing about this case. It has a very small footprint and a unique look. I agree installing the bottom fan first and the GPU halfway through the build, the building process move along with less frustration. I also believe Phanteks should have milled air slots in the front panel to match the back for better air flow. Regarding acoustics, the Shift Air 2 dampens noise no less than the infamous NZXT H1 or much praised Meshilicious.

    • @helenhuntsforehead9690
      @helenhuntsforehead9690 6 месяцев назад

You can actually get custom mesh front panels for this case, they even let you choose from about 6 shapes and patterns. I went with the maximum airflow shape, which actually looks really good with the plastic lines on the mesh side panels - it's hard to explain without a picture, but basically it looks great AND you get max airflow.

I have a Phanteks Evolv Shift 2 (tempered glass) with a full custom loop using a 240mm rad+2x 120mm Noctua NF-F12s and a 140mm rad+140mm Noctua NF-A14. Sure it took some modifications to the case, but after a few hours it all fit together quite nicely. Running a Ryzen 5600x + RTX3080ti under full load for 2 hours. Max temps seen 69c GPU / 67c CPU. Its an incredible case if you dont mind a bit of modifying 👍🏼🥰

  • @haravikk

I'm happy with mine, but if I was building new (rather than transferring an AIO I already had) I would have gone all air cooling, and that's despite managing to mount mine on the "rear" fan mount using a 10mm Prolimatech 120mm fan for the exhaust outside the chassis (under the back panel).
They really need a v3 with more fan mounts ("front" and "back") and an enlarged top with space for a radiator inside it (I'm sure it has enough room, and with the GPU mount out there should be room to get hoses (and pump for an AIO) into the case before you put the GPU caddy in.
So yeah, I like the basics of the layout (motherboard and GPU orientation) but the cooling needs a rethink.

I use this case with AIR cooling (bought it 1 week ago) - ID-COOLING IS-60 EVO.
And under full load I'm getting between 66°C - 70°C on 5600X. But I did something weird with my PC.
⚠I installed full-size ATX PSU in it (yes it fits, but you'll surface scratch your PSU casing (not dent, just scratch) but you can immediately forget about AIO water cooling for CPU since there is no space. And yes it does fit Asus Strix RTX 3080 with ease inside (never over 65°C).
But regarding AIR coolers (I have few low profile ones) best options were: Noctua L-12 Ghost (66-70°C), ID IS-50X (66-70°C), ID IS-60 EVO (66-70°C), ID IS-40X (74-78°C) and with default Wraith Stealth (85-95°C). I dunno why such huge spike in heat with default cooler (maybe it's defected). But one thing this case lacks is one more fan to exhaust heat faster from CPU side.
Cheapest option is: ID IS-40X (74-78°C) since it costs only 20€ no matter where you are in world compared to Noctua Ghost 50€, next best deal would be ID IS-60 EVO for 35€ (best cool for buck

I wonder why they haven't thought of or pushed for more LC-oriented "extension" - they could have easily extended width by eg. 4-5cm on each of those fabric sides and use them as "covers" for big/huge rads (they could even make own ones and sell them as accessories...), and eg. change the front panel from simple sheet of aluminium to an aluminium housing of a in-built reservoir. Then one could add pump(s) in the lower compartment and eg. route to CPU, GPU, rads on either side and deep/high reservoir... this would have made a huge improvement, don't you think? ;)

I got this case with a 3080ti and 5900x cpu. What's frustrating about this case is the PCI 3.0 riser, would not boot and had to plug the gpu directly to the motherboard to change the PCIe setting to Gen3. This summer I was not going over 75c (at peak), more 65-70c (granted I am using silent wings 3 at 1100rpm max, manually configurated so the PC is not noisy and that also is to take in considration for the higher temps) wich is not great for a custom cooling but this is a mini itx case, fully enclosed with only two 120mm rads. I think it could be better performance with two 120mm thick rads, maybe I'll try in the futur. Anyways, the case is small, it's beautiful, you can enjoy the sight of all your components, my cable management is on point, you can only see the gpu cables. The thing about the case is that it saves a lot of space in terms of length and thus, as a desk-top computer, it has a relatively small footprint in that regard. A regular ATX mid tower is easily 3x the desk footprint.
The riser is hardly an issue, you just have to wiggle about with some settings if its a 3rd gen cable on a 4th gen card+mobo.

Hey thanks for this honest review! I have been trying to decide between this case and the Fractal Design Torrent Nano RGB Black TG. I think the Phanteks case looks awesome and has a really great footprint on the desk. Those are two great selling points. On the other hand I am not really a PC building guy. I want minimal hassle as I am a Mac guy who only very occasionally build PCs. Based on this review I'd say the Fractal Design case really isn't for me. If I was an experienced builder who liked doing builds, then sure I'd go for this case. But as someone who doesn't take any particular pleasure in building PCs this case looks totally wrong. Too bad, it is one of the better looking cases.
It is something that has long bothered me with the PC space. There is so much competition and so many choices yet nobody seems to be able to make anything remotely as aesthetically pleasing as most of the stuff Apple puts out. Like why is that so hard?

At least the original shift and shift x were focuses on custom loop configuration from the beginning but this case tries to do both water and air cooling without doing them well. Not sure why you would be sticking a 200 watt CPU in a gaming PC, outside of extreme overclocking there's not a lot of reason to go over a Ryzen 5 5600X which is only 65 watts, and really if you want to crazy a Ryzen 9 5950X which is still only 105 watts, at 200 watts you're talking a higher end workstation CPU, really anything over 105 watt CPU and you're talking maybe .01% of gaming PCs since most gamers go for CPUs in the $200-300 range. I have the 1st gen evolv shift air and I love it, small footprint, very stylish looks, and with a Ryzen 5 3600 and RTX 5700XT is extremely quiet. Yes other ITX cases have smaller volume, but quite frankly most are fairly ugly and have a larger footprint on the desk.

  • @ΝίκοςΚουλακιώτης-λ6ο

Thank you Leo for yet another thorough review. I have looked at this case like forever, however i stayed away. The designers at Phanteks intended to make it right, yet they failed as they still go for looks instead of functionality, placing the motherboard to the top and the PSU and / or radiator-fans to the bottom, If you rotate the entire case upside down everything, almost takes its intented place. It is moronic to make cutouts on the back cover where ther are no fans and leave the front cover solid. Installing a radiator as is, is a futile atempt to convince any potential byuer to invest in an 120mm single fan AIO to cool a maximum of an AMD5600X or an intel10600-stock processor. In my case, as i believe in others too, wish to build a small footprint beast, obviously phanteks fails to provide the absolute corsair one alternative. In my inverted evolv shift dreamworld, i could install two 240mm rads on the sidepanels, the Barrow pump res commbo, a single 140mm High static pressure fan as exshaust on top, and all the cables would exit at the bottom of the case, as the motherboard panel would face downwards. However i am not asleep and yet after another iteration of this magnificent case i will again choose to stay away from the temptation. Perhaps if i find it for 50 quid second hand and start moding....

I never understood the changes Phanteks made to the Shift in this V2 design... Sure, they addressed the poor airflow in the front panel (which is now the back panel? Phanteks for some reason seems to think that ventilation cut-outs in a front panel are akin to warts on your face), but aside from the fact that you can still only have 3 fan positions, everything else was a step backwards...
Before, you could have 2 120mm radiators on the bottom compartment, but now thanks to the asinine positioning of the PSU (that only helps with accommodating slightly bigger GPUs, but that's only if you were planning to go with a 120mm radiator on the bottom front intake, I myself have a Gigabyte Aorus Waterforce WB 2080 Super, and it literally JUST fits, it's even a fraction of a degree crooked due to it colliding with the PSU), now you can only natively go with 1 120mm rad. The PSU now blocks like 1/4 of the airflow from the bottom fan, and then immediately takes part of that intake and blows it out of the case via the PSU fan. Not only that, the positioning of the PSU makes it so that you can't mount a compat res+pump combo in the bottom chamber, so for a custom loop, you are pretty much limited to that Barrow CPU block+pump+res combo. In my build I used a Barrow pump+res combo and it fits pretty nicely, could've probably gone with a slightly bigger pump+res combo if I had wanted to spend more money, but I had to work with $2000 in total, so had to stretch everything as much as possible.
But the silliest thing are the mesh side panels. The whole point of this case is the fact that it has glass panels on both sides, to showcase your hardware, specially if you're planning on custom water-cooling your build. Phanteks should've went with a specific niche and stick with it. Make it so that it's the dream case for SSF enthusiasts that want to be able to actually showcase the hardware, instead of locking it away in a mesh shoe box.
So yeah, I can name a couple more silly things, but in the end, it's just a bad airflow design that happens to look pretty good.

@@KitGuruTech Wow. Soooo that's bad. You even have no idea how these CPU work, right? Well that's ridiculous :D
So let me teach you on that. ANY CPU can be a 300W sucking CPU as long as you tell your MB to do that, MB is what determines that and what sends the amperage and how much cores boosts.
A 65W TDP can "be a 300W CPU" (in your vocabulary) if you need to and retune it in PBS. An i9-10900K can be a 65W CPU at PL1 or even PL2 if you want to. And believe me, I tried and it works really well. I have an i7-10700KF in this Shift case (1.gen) with the Freezer and most games don't even suck more than 80W on the CPU (i play in 4K). My PL1 is set to 125W, the CPU boosts totally fine on its advertised speeds, I can run its cooler on almost minimum RPMs and even on 80W PL2 / 65W PL1 it boosts to the max on few cores. You evidently never even tried to do something like this before. The difference in games between 125W and 300W PL1 is about 2-4% of performance in most games.
The 10900K is an 125W TDP processor that can work with an H410 motherboard that cannot deliver 300W in its dreams. All you basically said with your uneducated comment is that you have a fancya*s, expensive motherboard that for (almost) no reason sends that much power to that CPU and does basically nothing from a practical (or longetivity) standpoint.
