I like how Jeanne Guyon teaches this because in her book "Experiencing the Depths of Jesus Christ" she talks about how it's not always easy to keep your mind on Him and that it will almost certainly be hard at first for most people but the key is to never stop turning to Him every time you realize your mind wandered. She says to not condemn yourself because your mind just wandered, but to realize it happened and to happily turn back to Him. I certainly like Eric Gilmour and just subscribed to his RUclips channel but in this aspect he's not able to realize how truly difficult it can be for some people to keep their own attention focused for any length of time. As Jeanne Guyon says you have to keep at it and train yourself to just keep turning back even if its 100x's in one time of fellowship. Eventually it becomes easier and easier until you find it hard to not think upon Him even when your doing other things. All praise be to our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
It is sooo hard! It takes maximum one minute for My mind to be in a totally different world. And that is when I'm Praying. To do this all day would drive me nuts!
Marius Ihlar my advice would be to treat Him as a Good Friend. It is so great to fellowship with our Lord and be in His Presence. Every time you think of Him talk to him. Even right now I just did it. I thought of Him and said hello Lord, you are so amazing. Thank you for loving me. That was so simple and even more I feel His Presence and His Peace is overwhelming me. Just remember He's a real loving God and Jesus Christ is His embodiment as the Son. This is a delight to talk with Him and never a chore. I know sometimes it feels like a one and we try and force ourselves but we don't usually have to force ourselves to talk with our earthly loved ones or best friends. Just start today and just talk to Him and share your heart at little times throughout the day. We don't have to muster up many words to fill the time just be real and know who He is. I really hope this helps and may the God of all comfort and Jesus Christ the Lord of peace and communion draw your heart and soul and body into a true relationship with Him.

What helps me give God my attention is muting my phones. No music nothing just saying thank you God. I love you God. Think about the words your saying as you say them. Take your time and continue. Good loves us, we’re perfect in his eyes. We have the authority and power over this thing. This blessed me! Stay focused guys!
I have years of new age meditation practice which helps me now to bring my mind back to Jesus....at least I got one good thing out of that movement.
I find that it can be easier to keep your mind focused if I you out in the backyard and look up to the sky while praying. You are alone with Him with minimal distractions around you. With me it is easier to be focused if my eyes are open and looking up rather than closed. The small amount of visual stimulus seems to help keep my mind from wandering. Scripture tells us that our Lord Himself looked up to heaven when He prayed. When I look at the sky above I think of the One Who made it.

I find it hard to focus when praying....
No offense to Eric here, but those of us with brain damage and focus deficits have great difficulty maintaining attention on anything. I have to first ask God to keep my mind stayed on thee and for help focusing my attention on Him. Ironic, isn't it? I even need God's help to worship Him. Praise God He is faithful every time. I am happy for Eric though, that this isn't one of his personal struggles.
Bumpyroads22 my husband has brain damage from a brain tumor and struggles with staying focused as well. I fully believe God will meet us in what we are able to give if our hearts desire is to be with him! The Lord can do exceedingly above all we can ask or imagine:) Many blessings to you in your pursuit of the love of Jesus!
You touch the exact topics that I wanted answers for I’ve been so angry when it comes to making decisions with the voices in my head especially while praying and my mind is all over the place and I think am the only one who was feeling this way I thank you so much for this discussion now I can’t spread the words and feel more relief Thank you lord

You don't know how much I needed this Daniel. I couldn't understand how I could love God more from the beginning of my walk because I just didn't feel like I felt God until someone explained that that weighty feeling was the Holy Spirit. And just the same, I needed this to show me why and how to worship....and why it's to my benefit. Keep up the good work.......I love you man......big hug for you and Eric!!
Daniel you asked all the questions I have been asking. I am still operating in that place of discipline and desire so I found Eric"s answers a little frustrating. Kind of like asking a tall blonde Swede how to become a tall blonde Swede when you are a short fat Italian.

Yes that is frustrating. It’s simple to turn your attention to Jesus but not that simple to KEEP your focus on Him at least when you are beginning to practice it. His answers frustrated me.

we agree just to be! Since we have learned that God chooses us to bear fruit, the fruit that lasts so perfect practice makes perfect. Jesus suffered so we could give thanks for how He is with us at every appointment even when we are disappointed with the outcome, since we are being shaped by the Supreme expert who knows the template is exactly unique so the trophies are alive and are in alignment, The work that HIS goodness began, the arm of HIS strength will complete!

Allie Hill It means that I'm doubting about the power of Jesus Christ.
Do you mean you doubt that he is able to save you from your sins or is it another sort of doubt?
Harshita Kasera Jesus Christ and His work of the cross is the power of God unto salvation. He is the only way, truth and life. Go to Him to have life. If you doubt His power I say again come to Him to have life. Humbly bring your doubts to Him with a sincere heart wanting the truth and the truth will come in.
Harshita Kasera don't think too much on those evil thoughts, they're just thoughts, nothing more. Our heavenly Father knows this downside to us all, he doesn't care much about it when you realize, apologize, ask for help from him, seek help, and then get right back to his will.
I dont get this, he says that it should be easy. For 5 years have been struggling with this. It is sooo hard! It takes maximum one minute for My mind to be in a totally different world. And that is when I'm Praying. To do this all day would drive me nuts. This is My main problem I think, The Adam river is going strong in my life. Not sinning, but just spending time on useless things like games and hobbies. Obviously I'm doing something wrong but I can't find out what. None of the things he mentions in the end is accurate.
I think that there is something even more fundamental. The thing I've discovered is that it doesn't start with us. God has come to us in Jesus, who then sent the Holy Spirit to live in us , THEREFORE we can respond. We love him because he FIRST loved us. If you feel that you have to find the strength in yourself to reach out to God, then you will fail every time. If you focus on the word of God telling us in a million ways that GOD has come to us (Hallelujah) then it does become easy to discipline yourself to focus on Him. I recommend listening to Andrew Wommack for some good teaching on this
