Thank you. 🙏👍 Nice addition of the movement in slow motion at 3:00, very helpful description of waist/arm coiling, trajectory and intent. Clear and concise instruction. 🐉
Man, I found you in "Why are Kung Fu masters getting BEATEN UP in China?" and you are the first I've seen talking in concept about the subject. Thanks.
Wonderful video! I love the internal arts. I practice tai chi, and I am fascinated with Bagua. What an interesting and beautiful art! Thanks for sharing!
Hello Mr Jacobs and thank you for another wonderful instructive series ! fantastic job at presenting and transmitting knowledge of Bagua zhang! Is it a prerequisite to having been trained in Xing Yi Quan before attempting to learn Bagua??
Thank you for another great, very useful and easy to follow video in the series. One quick question concerning chuan bai zhang: You mention "rising - turning - falling" as core principles of baguazhang. In this exercise, you seem to keep those three aspects rather distinct from each other. I guess, what I'm asking is whether one should keep them apart like that or just train that way in the beginning stages of practice and try to thread them together, once a certain level of practive is reached. In other words, how rectangular resp. archlike should the movement be and what is the end goal here? Thanks in advance and thank you for the clarification on my questions about the 1st video.
if i turn my hips to my right side, my right foot tends to pivot on its heel (same with the left side). is this a "good" tendency or a bad habit i should correct right away?
hello byron, thank u for these videos as they are the best source of details on Bagua and Xing yi training. because I dont have any masters around me I have to learn from the internet, but could u perhaps upload a videos of a sparring session in these styles? that would be great because I want to see how to use the footwork to circle and or move in and out of the pocket then the use of fists and kicks in combinations etc. thank u
Hi, thanks. Possibly in the future I'll upload. In the Jing Cheng wushu video I released a few months ago, there is a set partner application form done by han yanwu about 30 plus years ago in it, as well as some bagua by his teacher.
@@CynicalSnowflake Sparring in Bagua? Yeah, dumba$$, there's sparring in Bagua. There is quite a number of decent videos of it right here on RUclips if got off your butt for 2 seconds and did a search. So no, I don't have to hold my breath, I have seen it plenty of times including the Bagua schools I was in that had senior students sparring each other on a regular basis. Check out the old videos made by master Yang Hai who posted lots of videos back in the day with his Baguazhang students sparring against his Xingyiquan students. Also there should be video of Sifu Tom Biso demonstrating free flow sparring, Warfox, aka Sifu Robert Jay Arnold who sparred against a boxer in one of his videos, and Sifu Mike Patterson who used to train UFC-type fighters for the ring using Baguazhang. The Black Taoist also has a bunch of videos that had sparring in them, and I believe you can see old videos of Sifu Bruce Frantzis sparring with Baguazhang. Just ignore the lame and ridiculous videos from Jake Mace.
Do the xingyi stepping methods you described in a previous video apply also to Liang Bagua? The first step you showed looked very similar to mud wading step, but I’m especially curious about the half-step. I know that one Bagua school practices this extensively, but I haven’t seen it discussed most places. Is it a normal step to practice for Bagua?
Bagua Zhang does use some steps that are prevalent in Xingyi Quan as well, but the mud wading step is different. I will convert that in a future Bagua ten minute primer.
Respectfully all these details are nice but would it not be more practical to do drills that make these skills good with movement footwork range and timing ? As one Fellow lifelong martial arts to another I respect your martial arts path
Hi there. As the video states, these are primer videos for people who are just starting with bagua Zhang. There are partner drills for many of these. The purpose of these videos is to introduce basics for people to start out on.

Thanks! One could start directly with bagua Zhang, but having a foundation in xingyi can only help as well
Thank you!
Very welcome

Liang style is what I practice
Many thanks, subbed. Saw you on your SA friend's channel and came here. Greetings from Garden Route.

How often is everyone here practicing these basics?
I find it to be a great meditation tool as well.
im gonna start with this

This is looking exactly like the kind of martial arts Ling-xiaou from Tekken uses
Yes, she does some Bagua
