Most Chinese people aren't experts of Chinese history either and are even more prone to just taking things like this at face value. There are loads of records of the names of dances, the occasions they were danced at, the clothes they wore when they danced and how fast or graceful these dances were, but there are scant records of the dance steps/hand positions from any Tang Dynasty dance handbook. These are, at best, modern dances based on poses seen from Tang Dyansty paintings. This is not a modification. This is a modern interpretation of a dance that stopped being danced over 1000 years ago.

The closest dance to real Tang Dynasty dance is Japan’s Gagaku dance. The Japanese Imperial Family imported it during the Tang Dynasty and has virtually not changed the dance since they first imported it over 1,300 years ago.
So my dance class got a group by random and one group got this dance and we have to do 5 8 counts and so they don't get to perform this whole dance but I find it interesting and my group got a Italian dance it's called the tarantella and we have to perform the dance soon

So my dance class got a group by random and one group got this dance and we have to do 5 8 counts and so they don't get to perform this whole dance but I find it interesting and my group got a Italian dance it's called the tarantella and we have to perform the dance soon
