I recall doing a brief mention of the McDonald's Holiday Film Fest of 1993 during my look at Holiday Movies from 1993. It was a cross promotion for Wayne's World 2 and Addams Family Values, which says a lot given the VHS tapes got more push than the movies. But the ironic thing is this got some controversy as some Watchdog groups lamented Wayne's World being offered due it's crude humor and language. Yet they were ok with the macabre jokes in Addams Family and the dark underworld spirits in Ghost? McDonald's response was "we were just going by a survey on what movies people wanted to own and Wayne's World was one them." Oye!
I miss when fast food restaurants would do movie times it's a shame they don't do that anymore McDonald's is the most well-known restaurant at the time that we do tie in stuff for movies my favorite that they did was the cops for both Batman forever and Batman returns even the Happy meals used to be awesome back in the day too i wish McDonald's was like that now they have become way too corporate these days.
Brian, First, great as always. May all of your tie-in dreams come true! Second, read Tolkien. Jackson came as close as anyone could have to putting those stories on film but the process of filmmaking inevitably leaves 90% of the tale in writers' waste bins and on cutting room floors and the rest juggled in space and time (can you tell I went to film school?). But when we watch his films, we're only experiencing HIS vision of Tolkien's story (actually Jackson's production team's edited artistic vision of the story. Welcome to Hollywood). Read Tolkien. Experience YOUR vision of the story. Stories. The Hobbit's backstory, read it first.
Sadly at the time those tie ins where crushed thanks to “super size me” and the controversy of toy promos In fast foods and yet the documentary never heard of the word “moderation”
And Morgan spurlock himself admitted to never being sober in 30 years and even admitted to drinking a 5th of whiskey while making the documentary. Oh and he’s a r4pist too that made a non apology to save his tail

Great video, brought back lots of memories! I've still got a HOME ALONE 2 cup and poster from Hardee's in storage.

there was also one where Hardee's promoted the Swan Princess back in 1994 and with Balto a year later in the Holiday Season of 1995!
Cups somehow always had lead recalls. Lol.
It’s the paint that was used. So many nice glass cups but damn are they dangerous
Me and my family still have the Dodger ornament!

I’ve since read the Hobbit. I’ve also listened to parts of the Fellowship audiobook and have enjoyed it. It doesn’t hurt it’s narrated by Andy Serkis
