100% love honeynut squash! My never list this year goes to: Kohlrabi - sure, it's fairly easy to grow, but aside from dipping it in something with flavor, we just don't use it for anything. Considering not growing big beefy tomatoes too... It just takes so long for those to put any out! Okinawan sweet potato... Almost. I love the color, flavor and texture, but man it is so inconsistent for production. I'm gonna plant a few next year, but that's it. If they don't produce, then I'm done with em. I planted something like 25 slips, and I'd be lucky if we got a pound per plant average. Some had decent roots, some had zero. There are so many other varieties that produce well, and have good flavor. That's what we want! On our love list - Sungold cherry tomatoes. Man, these things gave us loads of sweet goodness, and have produced even after a touch of frost this fall. Potatoes -fresh potatoes are so delicious, and pretty easy to grow here with our cool wet spring and warm dry summer. Kabocha squash - fairly short vine to produce a good family sized squash that tastes delicious. Garlic - I love how "set it and forget it" it is, and we get great yields up here.
I ain’t growing Corn again, Broke. I was thinking the same about zucchini squash. I don’t have time for them squash bugs or vine borers. I just donnnn’t have the mental capacity. Now... I might try the squash you mentioned. Whew! You’re right about them herbs though. Great video. 👩🏽🌾
@ Seeeee! We’re the same. Lol. I actually got ears this time but that pollination was whack! I figure corn 🌽 is cheaper to buy at the store. I don’t care. Lol.
I got a decent harvest of butternut squash this year from just one plant. I don`t go to stores so I try to grow calories but it`s hard in Louisiana with all the pests. Baby bunnies got into my watermelon patch and nibbled the vines up and I had all kinds of problems. Next year I`m growing my peas and beans in a better place. I bought crowder pea seeds and they gave me the kind that makes vines so that messed everything up. Next year the melons will be out in the middle of the yard by themselves.
Cabbage. It takes up a lot of space and all of the pests love it. You only get one cabbage per plant. I would rather plant something that gives me more food with less work and frustration.
@@adriaward4483 I was told that when you harvest the cabbage plant if you leave the four leaves on the bottom it will regrow another head. Has another done it before?

SW Colorado can be a challenging place to garden. At the edge of mountains and desert. I love to garden, but over the years I have given up on many things, because they are not worth the space, effort, and water used. If friends, neighbors have more success with certain things, I'll buy from them (or often they just give me stuff!). I liked your honesty about what does and does not work for you.

I almost gave up on parsnips, not finally seen they prefer fall. I will only grow cabbages, broccoli and cauliflower in the fall from now on. Nothing yet that I won’t grow again. We’ll see!
Hey Broke 👋🏾💪🏽This was a great info , thyme playing slp 😂 I’ve been turned off from squash since my moma used to boil yellow squash and make us eat it 🤢🤢but I’m gonna try the honey nut squash, you advertise it well!! Have a great day
My list is 1. Corn. Nuff said. 2. Squash. I keep only getting male flowers. Very strange. 3. Soybean. I did it as an experiment. Never flowered. 4. White potatoes. I have tried every technique and my harvests are so small. 5. Broccoli in spring. Just too many bugs but they are doing great now in late fall. I had given up on cabbage due to bugs in the spring but I will try your technique of doing them now. I'll see.😂
We just planted potatoes in the north! Found out that our missed potatoes from last year came up great this year, so we planted late fall :) We don't dig, we use Ruth Stout method, under hay and it's wonderful!
Ground cherries don’t easily reseed here, at least that’s been my experience. I’ll always grow them. “What’s worse than yellow patty pan squash? WHITE yellow patty pan squash!” 😂😂
In northern California if you plant one large heirloom tomato species, you'll have more than you'll know what to do with 😂 everyone I know who grew tomatoes this last summer in my area had a tomato explosion
@Brokefarmer I was really wanting to know what was the name of that pear tree you mentioned in a Livestream with another gardener. You said you were opposed to the way it grows, or it invades and takes over too much space, or something. I have had 2 pear trees in containers for a couple of months, wondering if they are one of those that you spoke of🤔🤷🏽
I tried them in Austin, Texas. They look great but the spider mites were horrible. When I grew dwarf tomatoes next to full size, the difference was amazing.
As far as the onions for pest control. It isn't really meant to kill the pests, I think it's more to try and mask the smell of the plants the pest is looking for.
Patty pan squash and onions extended my. Mother’s life after the doctors told us to take her home. So she could be comfortable and at peace in her final days. I was like 13 alls she ate was P.S and she lived. Almost 2 years and she was very active out going. She died in a car accident I’ve never tried it. But I keep trying to grow it so thanks for telling me. What it taste like
Hey Broke thanks for the great information. I will never grow green peppers again. The plant is now about 6-8 inches tall and its 45 degrees outside. I started it in June. Can I continue to grow it inside. Also should i cover my turnip greens with plastic bags when the temp goes under 32 degrees?

I almost gave up on parsnips, not finally seen they prefer fall. I will only grow cabbages, broccoli and cauliflower in the fall from now on. Nothing yet that I won’t grow again. We’ll see!
Hope everything continues to be good to you
Thanks 😊
You're welcome!

Hey Broke 👋🏾💪🏽This was a great info , thyme playing slp 😂 I’ve been turned off from squash since my moma used to boil yellow squash and make us eat it 🤢🤢but I’m gonna try the honey nut squash, you advertise it well!! Have a great day
😂 so did my Mahmuh - squash 1 beware!!!
Same to you
My list is
1. Corn. Nuff said.
I'll see.😂
I'm trying purple potatoes more next year
We just planted potatoes in the north!
😂😂😂
🤣🤣
In northern California if you plant one large heirloom tomato species, you'll have more than you'll know what to do with 😂 everyone I know who grew tomatoes this last summer in my area had a tomato explosion
Wow
Love it. I don’t really like any white veggies as the flavor is lacking for me
Me neither
1st time growing cabbage, wont be doing it again, the pests the eat it overnight in morning I dont see them.
The bugs are bad
LOL I told you honeynut squash was good, cuz!
You were definitely correct, thanks
🔥🔥🔥🙏🏿
Thanks
Loved your video and definitely agree on your opinions!
thank you!
Zucchini! Great video
Yeah I'm only growing golden zucchini
I’ve had no luck with thyme, cucumbers, zucchini, pumpkin (for soup) and squash. Leaf footed bugs keep getting to them.
Try some peppermint castille soap
I keep having cucumber failure. I will try that tip.
❤
Thanks
I think the heat and maybe some spacing issues led to a wack tomato harvest this past season for me
I think I picked the wrong varieties
New sub here so hello from South Carolina, neighbor!
Thanks for subbing!, welcome to the community
Good God's glorious morning cousin!
- Psalm 146 🙋🏽♀️ in my husband's account
Good morning Psalm
@Brokefarmer I was really wanting to know what was the name of that pear tree you mentioned in a Livestream with another gardener. You said you were opposed to the way it grows, or it invades and takes over too much space, or something. I have had 2 pear trees in containers for a couple of months, wondering if they are one of those that you spoke of🤔🤷🏽
I was saying my European Asian keeps a disease
❤❤❤
Thanks
Everglades tomatoes self seed like that. And they are tiny. Like blueberries. Good for guniea pigs though
Thanks I will never grow them🤣
Bruh, you made me laugh so I had to subbed🎉😂
🤣🤣 preciate it, welcome to the community
try slicing tomatoes from the dwarf tomato project. they have them at southern exposure seed and victory seeds.
I will, thanks
I tried them in Austin, Texas. They look great but the spider mites were horrible. When I grew dwarf tomatoes next to full size, the difference was amazing.
Larger tomatoes have been crazy for the past few years.
Which variety?
😂😂😂 oh you just gained a new subscriber
Welcome aboard!
I love how this whole video is filled with unpopular gardening opinions 😅
Thanks I think 🤣
As far as the onions for pest control. It isn't really meant to kill the pests, I think it's more to try and mask the smell of the plants the pest is looking for.
I don't think based off that hungry bugs won't eat
Patty pan squash and onions extended my. Mother’s life after the doctors told us to take her home. So she could be comfortable and at peace in her final days. I was like 13 alls she ate was P.S and she lived. Almost 2 years and she was very active out going. She died in a car accident I’ve never tried it. But I keep trying to grow it so thanks for telling me. What it taste like
It's just my taste buds, sorry for your loss
Dirt taste good? 👀 we want to see a video on that and you eating that. Lol i am with you on those patty pan and acorn squash. I like the basic squash.
It's so many better tasting squashes
Hey Broke thanks for the great information. I will never grow green peppers again. The plant is now about 6-8 inches tall and its 45 degrees outside. I started it in June. Can I continue to grow it inside. Also should i cover my turnip greens with plastic bags when the temp goes under 32 degrees?
You can bring the peppers inside they are biannual, turnip greens taste better after frost
Pineapple Tomato big and low production.
I tried them too, same results
I love Heirloom. They did warn of low productivity but I did not think it was that low.
