You saved me. The skimmer flapper was stuck open due to my own fault. I have a solar robot that drives around and sometimes gets sucked into that skimmer. One "solution" I used was to put a pool noodle in front of the intake of the flapper. I removed that pool noodle and no more air suction issue.

Forget that messy shaving cream method, just use an incense stick and watch where the smoke is sucked in. Or just slowly pour a bucket of water over the pipe connections in the suspect areas and see if the air leak disappears. If a valve/union/joint was leaking, simply wrap a plastic bag tightly around the joint/pipe temp for a fix.

air leaks are too small... you really need something to find them!

Rather than shaving cream, would soapy water on a spray bottle be an option ? Similar to using it on a tire with a nail in it ?

If you remove the valve handle there is 2 number 14 orings on the stem under the cover, they leak often and will cause vacuum leaks. You can pickup new ones at a hardware store and some silicone lube.

Where did you find the nylon cap?

The big cap on my skimmer basket? It came with my machine. Most are see through.

hey, I recognize that name/photo because you're always giving me kudos on strava! What a coincidence that I see you on youtube when I'm looking for tips on fixing my pool issues lol.
ty I will have to try the shaving cream trick. I'm afraid my leak is probably underground though. it used to be a very small leak that would only pull air when 100% of the suction from the pump was pulling on the vacuum side, but when I set it to get half of the intake from the vacuum and half from the skimmer then the vacuum could still run without sucking any air. But now I guess the leak has gotten worse and I can't get enough suction to the vacuum before it starts sucking air to get it to run at all. Then again I guess it could also be an obstruction in the line that's so bad that the pump is pulling in air from one of the other seals once the pressure becomes great enough due to the fact that it can't get enough water flow

@@mxrphaseninety yeah, at least it's mostly fixed. the vac line was clogged, I cleared it like this - ruclips.net/video/IWaXo1CYhqY/видео.html

I have the exact same problem! Is the ozone generator necessary?

My pool is 11 yrs old. Ozone stopped working after about 2 years and I've never repaired it. I make sure to test water regularly and keep chemicals balanced.

shaving cream is a great idea for detecting suction side leaks, thanks
