    I use the air dancer as well and it seems effective. As long as the hawks cannot ambush my birds around the loft when they're landing, they have no chance to catch my birds in the air. Good luck for your races!

    Thank you for posting I’m located in the mountains of CA and the hawks are relentless !

      Wide open space in Oklahoma will be better for the pigeons to escape the hawks.

    Enjoyed the video. I remember the early 90s I rarely ever saw hawks take my pigeons. They weren't the obstacle they are nowadays for sure. We didn't see bald eagles in this area at that time either. However now, they're everywhere.

    Hi Frank, my name is Mark im from South Africa I've been watching your videos and I'm very impressed with them. I'm going to do your feeding method this year i hear you saying in your video that your birds are a bit heavier how is your feeding leading up to your first race

      Hello Mark, I am pleased that you are enjoying my videos. I started training and my race team has been on 75% barley and 25% Versele Laga Champion. I have been feeding about one pick pot per ten pigeons. I need them to come right in when they return from training because of the hawks. I also want to be competitive week one with very little road training and no loft flying. They are out three miles and I start racing in two weeks. I also will be traveling for six days before the race. Hope to get them to 30 miles before the 150 mile race. They will be super light and corky.

    Hi Frank,
    Would you please advise how to choose the first tanning toss spot.
    I'm from Bangladesh and our weather is very unstable and has polluted air.
    We can only race up to 250 Miles.
    Our first race will be on 9th December it's a 65 mile race.
    It would be very helpful if you could tell me how I can select my personal training toss direction.
    Thank you.

    No one likes losses, but I agree its the brand new flyer that isnt callous to losses that takes the biggest hit.... our club lost 3 lofts for the season after one race as they lost almost their entire team in their very first race... tough game we play!

    I had a similar issue today. I took my birds 30 miles in a totally different direction and they came home in 3.5 hours. Scratching my head because they all came ten minutes apart from each other in two groups and they didn’t even look tired. This team has been out 70 miles and come home in less than an hour and 40 min so who knows.

    I never had so many copper hawks around , they kill many of my young and old birds I think a good cold winter will help out next year just last winter was overly warm.
    Take care .

      Maybe a cold winter will reduce the hawks but I think many migrate south in the winter

    I have a hen that only lays 1 egg. She breed twice this year and laid 1 egg each time only. Year 2018 bird. All other pigeons lay 2, eat the same and have same health. Can this be fixed? Sorry for posting this question here. But I figure this can help others too. Thanks in advance.

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  Год назад +1

      She will most likely only lay one egg. You can try treating her for ten days with Enrofloxin which is Baytril and also vaccinate two times per week for three weeks with a salmonella vaccine. This may help clear her ovaries of any possible infection. Best of luck, Frank

      @@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons Thanks for the tip. I got lucky and she laid two eggs this round.
      I changed her diet to be 100% green pellet and gave her heavy oil/fat/protein base treats "50% Peanuts, olive oil, hemp, and others". I also forced feed her about 1 TB of oyster shell once... about 2 weeks before she laid the two eggs. I'm unsure if what I did worked but I'll try it again next round

    Frank so to breed you don't medicate just deworm ?

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  Год назад

      I only worm and vaccinate. Never flock treat the birds ever. I will treat a sick bird individually but my pigeons have not seen any medication since 2013. They keep getting stronger.

    bearing in mind that i am NEW, so my insights into this are... based on experiences with things other than pigeons. (and reading, and listening to the experts, yes)
    in my opinion... with the lack of electromagnetic signal (need i remind the kids that cell phones were RARE up until 'recently') and the fewer falcons and hawks, as well as everything else you mention... yes, we were racing pigeons on "easy mode"
    and
    we were BREEDING and TRAINING that!
    so generations of pigeons were bred without any concern for their canny ability to avoid danger, their ability to use their other senses and methods to find home, etc ... just "point and fly"
    without those birds being tested under adversity? you don't know if (insert name of champion bird here) had any brains about avoiding danger... or re- orienting after getting confused: all you were really testing was basic homing, and speed.
    this is why i truly feel that the off spring of "survivors" from more recent races- especially those with heavy loses? will do much better, EVEN if their time wasn't good. one of the prizes of my breeding stock (recently acquired of course, as stated i am new) is not from award winning bloodlines, but is the grandchild of a bird that flew home with a broken wing, and a likely hawk injury. she may have gotten home well after the race, *but she got home*.
    i am actively seeking out birds that made it back to their loft after heavy losses in the race (one loft or otherwise) because they have been tested on hard conditions, and i can always work on speed.
    in addition, the pigeons racing and winning in recent years (decades really) are MUCH lighter and finer birds than i see in the photos and videos of the old days... they are faster- much faster in some cases- but as you say: they dont have the reserves to survive a serious setback...
