This is basically track cycling, except cars don't have legs and can't sprint. Should be fun!
I wonder how will anyone be able to pull away from the main pack to gain 20 points on everybody else.

A few people mentioned that this is basically just a cycling points race, but joking aside, I'd actually LOVE to see this format implemented into an IRL race.
The plate tracks - Daytona, Talladega, and New Atlanta - would be perfect for this. Get someone to write some code that can recognize the largest group of cars within a second of each other on timing and scoring, leave the race green for as long as possible, and run the exact same format. It'd likely encourage teamwork, both to form a breakaway and to catch any that might be breaking away, and the dynamic could lead to some really interesting races....ESPECIALLY if pit stops get involved.
It's not the kind of idea that NASCAR would _ever_ try in real life (unless track cycling got "Drive to Survive"-level popular), but still.

Sir, you are wrong. Martinsville isnt the oldest track on the nascar schedule. That would be indy. However, it is the only track that has been on the schedule every year since the first nascar season in 1948.

For a future event, is there any chance to take a Formula E car and set it up with batteries of lesser capacity than usual to have more car changes in the same race? Then stage the event at a really long track like LeMans 24 or the Nordschleife or something where the distance to the pitlane can be crucial.
