  • This video is essentially a "what is in my camera bag" piece but aimed at the topic of why adapted lenses still work in 2023. I am not saying/taking shots at Z glass, but instead highlighting why the FTZII adapted paired with the right lenses still works in 2023.

    My favorite F mount lens is the 105mm F2.8 Nikkor Micro. (the version with the IS). It isn't the most clinically sharp lens but something about the way this lens resolves an image is really pleasing.

      That's awesome, I have been keeping my eye on that lens a while for sure!

    When I heard you talking about the 17-35mm F2.8 ED, specifically when you said "...also the autofocus works great" on a Z body, I was like😲???? I've had this lens since I first got into the Z system and since it's a D type and has a hole for screw motor focus I was pretty sure that it would not autofocus with the FTZ adaptor! That's why I have always used it in MF mode and never second-guessed myself! I literally jumped back to my camera bag after watching this and, what do you know! AF actually works!!🤔 I could swear that I have never seen this lens on the FTZ compatibility chart from Nikon! I even misinformed someone who asked me about AF with this lens when adapted to Z bodies some time ago😩 I hope they see this video! And thanks❤

    As a rule of thumb… AF-S lenses are a must so as to avoid focusing issues… I love my AF-S 200mm f/2 on the Z6ii. Keep up the great work!

    hello, i have 70200vr1 and FTZ mounted in nikon z6. i found it has issues with autofocus. sometimes i cant use autofocus and my camera display err release shutter, then i cant use autofocus. a few moments later i can use again. did you found this problem in ftz2? thank you

      Hi thanks for the comment I am sorry to hear that. That was not an issue I encountered in the past, but I would first make sure nothing is blocking the contact points on the lens/adapter and the same on the camera. Also, make sure your firmware on the Z6 is up to date.

    The issue for me with F Mount glass is the weight (back problems). I ended up getting the Z5 with the 50/1.8 (awesome lens btw) and the 28/2.8, and that’s been great for me. Im also just doing it for fun though - for work would probably be a different matter all together…

    The 105 1.4 for sure! What is a good f mount vlogging lens that doesnt make focus noise? How's the 14-24 2.8?

    • @JoeMansLand

      I want to try that one for sure, and I have heard the 14-24 rocks!

      @@JoeMansLand Any idea if it makes focus noise?

    • @JoeMansLand
      @JoeMansLand  Год назад

      @@roguesodyssey it would be more quiet than the 17-35 but honestly it varies from lens to lens depending on the condition. I would recommend trying the lens out first to ensure there is now sound

    Hi Joe. Thinking of jumping to Z cams. I have a D500 at the moment and started with a D70 way back then. Will my Nikon 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED-IF AF work with an FTZ adapter? Thanks for the videos on your channel!

      Hey thanks so much and great question! I believe it should, as long as it isn't a screw drive lens. I recommend getting on with B&H via their web call and you can ask them to test that (if they have the lens around they will)

    How weatherproof is the FTZ adaptor? Thanks.

    • @JoeMansLand
      @JoeMansLand  Год назад +1

      Great question Mark-the FTZII is weather sealed (I am unsure of the FTZI)) but that being said I would be cautious. Anytime you introduce another connection point between a lens and a camera there is a higher possibility of gaps.

    I didn't know any F-mount lenses would work with the Z-TC-2X, and I would recommend using the Z 70-200mm f2.8 S lens, if you can afford it. Yeah, the F-mount glass is good, but try coupling the Z lens I mentioned with the Z-TC-2X and it turns it into a really nice 140-400mm f5.6 zoom! Images are REALLY nice! Cheaper and more versatile than getting a separate 400mm lens, too! The Sigma 150-600 f5.6-6.3 is also a really great lens on the Z6 via the FTZ-1. Focus works almost as good as the Z 70-200 S lens. Not quite, but I get lots of keepers with the Osprey that I shoot on occasion.

    I have that same 70-200 2.8 lens - it's a beast and well built - love the sharpness and contrast, constant 2.8, internal zooming and focusing, made in Japan - it's the last of its kind. - Love that brass plate. It's less than half the cost of the Z equivalent (got it on KEH too last year in EX+ condition). I also have the 300 PF F lens which is also a great performer. Z mount glass is great too for the most part, but F mount glass will save you a ton of $$$ and still have great IQ in most cases. Also love the ability to use other makes of lenses - even Canon! Fringer makes an EF to Z adapter with full AF! Also there are a few MF vintage lenses looking to mate with the Z's - M42 or other vintage mounts (if you don't mind MF).

    There is NOTHING wrong with F Mount and FTZ adapter. Only people that say F Mount is obsolete is RUclips getting a kickback to say that F Mount is obsolete and everyone should sell their F Mount lenses and go in debt for Z lenses.
