Great review and yes the Duratracs get super loud even just 5K miles into wear. And I don’t get the thinking behind this truck. If your going to call it an X then why not give an option for less bumper like the Chevy and at least 33s.
Yeah, I agree with ya there. I don't really see the point in the AT4x, because you're paying more for a less capable truck. You have a worse approach angle, and less ground clearance. I get that it's the more "luxurious" of the two, but I don't really see much that would make me buy this over the ZR2. However, if other people want it, they can go ahead lol.
Because they are thinking realistically. GMC buyers just want to look the part while presuming they’d be able to conquer something off the beaten path. Not judging, it’s no different from Range Rover and high end jeep buyers. If true trail riding is the goal, why would someone start with a base product that is $10k higher? (Or any new vehicle for that matter, but I digress).
@@9663mu because 1) DuraTracs looks the part and 2) they are cheap given Goodyear’s vendor relationship and orientation to OEM volumes and/or had a bunch leftover from the prior gen at4 / trail boss and/or had a minimum commitment amount in their contract with Goodyear. But mostly I suspect to look the part.
too expensive to drive. big tires kill MPG and diesel is now 40% higher price than regular gas. Diesels going bye bye across all the brands because of the green energy kick
I had a 21 at4 carbon pro and traded it in for a ultimate Denali with the super cruise. I am so glad I did because this Denali smokes my old at4 in ride and interior.
I believe you’re incorrect about wheel and tire options for the ZR2. It is only offered with an 18” wheel as well, machined face or gloss finish. The only tire option for it is the GY wrangler territory.
I like the styling of the ZR2 and the AT4X both are super nice looking trucks and appear to be very capable as off roaders. That being said I don’t think I would spend 78,000 or 88,000 for anything that I would loose my mind over if it got all scratched up and or busted up doing stupid things off roading no matter how careful you are something is going to go wrong sooner or later.
Great reviews! I understand it’s the “luxury” version of the zr2 but with should of got a better off road bumper. The yukon got a better front bumper for approach.
GMC dropped the ball in a few places on this truck (compared to the ZR2), but none more restrictive than that front bumper. That would get destroyed doing even moderate off-roading. They should have found a way to integrate the cut-outs that you see on the ZR2.
MAN that tire noise really comes through in the video. For the extra money and no other tire options you'd think they'd do a better job of noise isolation in the cabin.
Can't kill something when you aren't even getting built lol. I heard GM is about to pause production on these because they can't get the parts to even assemble a few.
I would go with the ZR2 and save the $10K and/or spend some of that towards wheels and tires, suspension lift, etc. Also, in my opinion the ZR2 name has more cachet than AT4X so I don't think this GMC can claim more prestige than the Chevy.
Zr2 has 33” tires, AT4 x 32”, zr2 has steel bumpers with better approach angles. Zr2 slightly better numbers off-road but AT4 x has more luxury like massaging seats, more speakers, trim stuff.
Thank you for the good quick review. I have a 2019 AT4 and I recently test drove an AT4X and it does drive waay better and interior is much nicer. I considered a ZR2 but cooled seats are a must for me. Looks wise i think the ZR2 has a better look then the gmc. I really wish GM would start putting pano roofs on their premium trucks
@@02hreblue30 Hmm 🤔 not sure how this is a fact. I have read that it’s glass instead of metal and makes no difference in structural rigidity. Not really an issue for me I’m good with it without but it should be more safe to not have a pano sunroof in the event of a roll over accident.
I don't think the at4x still has a G80. I believe you are referring to GMs brake torque vectoring, which they don't advertise much, but works after wheel spin.
Ar4 has g80 the x has front and rear e lockers. But zr2 has bigger tires better approach angles zr2 slightly better off-road but the At4x is higher end interior. Hiwever I own a new zr2 and it is really upgraded in interior just not as muck as at4x
I’m starting to wonder if these truck manufactures had Goodyear develop these Goodyear territorial MTs for the Ford Bronco and ZR2 smaller turbo motors. The territorial 285/70/17 tires are only C load rated while the Duratracs are considerably heavier, but I would think more durable Offroad. The big tell is in the weight. The territorial they listed at 45 pounds. The same size Dura Trac weighs 54 pounds. A massive difference if your trying to get better few economy
Would really like know how much the AEV steel front bumper costs as a dealer installed option on the AT4X. May as well go all out and get the Bison? Would that steel front bumper fit the ZR2?

Yeah kinda. A basic 2 WD work truck is pushing $40,000 with taxes. I remember when 40 grand bought a brand new Boxter. But that’s 25 years ago so this is where it’s at now.
Yeah it’s a beautiful truck but I cannot justify the price difference. They will keep the at4 but after a few years this will be discontinued because not many folks will want to pay this much for a truck they would take off road and then have to spend more money to lift it and get rid of those awful Duratracs.
This truck doesn't compare to the ZR2, it compares to the Denali and it's for people who want a Denali but with more off road capabilities and less chrome.
The ZR-2 wins hands down. 10K less, smaller rims, a better front bumper, and quieter tires makes it a no brainer. I still think that tailgate is the most overhyped useless feature on a truck.
I thought the same about the tailgate until actually owning one. Now I love it having actually used it. Only downside is obviously not being able to use the step feature If there’s anything in your receiver. Not an issue for me since I only tow a couple times a year so mine is usually just put away
@@joshtavenner3073 I would be worried about the cost of repairing one if I damaged it. I really like that they put the step in the bumper. I do think that is useful.
So it's a Tremor/Rebel "competitor" (even though it's superior to both) and it has massage seats, Google automotive, an insane offroad camera system, a badass Vortec 6.2L V8, and the GMC nameplate which carries a lot of weight on its own (if you know anything about trucks). This is a practical overlanding beast instead of the far-from-practical, inexplicably popular, dune running nonsense that Ford and Ram have released. Supercharge the AT4X/ZR2 to achieve 750 hp or retune and implant the upcoming C8 vette ZR1 powerplant for about 1000 hp and nothing could compete. But we all know they won't which kinda makes me hate GM just a little lol. All because it would require reconfiguring a couple assembly plants...
It’s not called a Vortec, the new generation LT motors are called ecotec. Either way, Ford’s 3.5 EB bests the GM 6.2l trucks in terms of power and capability and it’s been proven time and time again. Even their 2.7l ecoboost outperforms the 6.2 which is pathetic. The only thing this truck is superior to Ford is in the bells and whistles but even GM hasn’t figured out how to do panoramic moonroofs like Ford and Dodge. They’ve got lots of catching up to do to even compete with the rest.
Tell your dad thanks for taking a long long hard look at where the extra $10,000 is. If they don’t produce any more Nissan Titans past 2024, I’m gonna start taking a long hard look at a Rebel or the AT4X.
