A TIKTOK star’s confidence has grown thanks to her speaking challenge videos. Jessie Davies, 29, from South Wales could not speak until she was about four years old due to a delay in her speech development and this progressed into a stammer. In November last year, Jessie started sharing videos about her stammer on TikTok including ‘speaking challenge’ videos where she would put herself in situations that she found difficult such as drive-thrus and talking on the phone. She has now garnered over three million followers on TikTok and is raising awareness about speech impediments. Jessie told Truly: “I just feel I now want to be the woman I needed as a little girl.” Today, Jessie is doing a speaking challenge in her local town carrying a sign that reads ‘I have a stammer, let's talk.’ Jessie said: “Even though it is only a few words on a piece of card, I feel it is really powerful and hopefully we can spread awareness today.”

My brother is just like this woman. He's now 50 and just gets on with life. He used to carry around a notepad and pencil in his pocket to get words across. Now he mostly uses his phone if it gets really bad. It started at age 3 for him and it's never changed, the same severity of stuttering now as a child. He's married, has two children, owns his own business and is a chill dude.
I love this woman! She rocks
And so is your brother!!! Just Amazing ❤️☺️
Your brother rocks👌🏾👏🏾
I'm not a talker, so when I do talk, I do stumble; even forgetting words & phrases I've known for years. But the fact that SHE keeps going, despite having it far worse than me, pretty gutsy; cheers. \m/
Ggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg GOd bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb bless yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy you
Honestly, ditto and it low-key scares me.
I do forget words too ❤️ sometimes im afraid to talk
Happens to me too sometimes
I don't have a stutter but my severe social anxiety makes my stumble with my words and I'll also have trouble finding the words I want to say. I feel like it makes people think that I am a lot less intelligent than I really am. 😕
I honestly find this so heartwarming to see her try hard, even tho she struggles she still tries and doesn’t give up, it’s so nice to see her doing her best ❤️
For the American folks a "stammer" is considered a "stutter". She's lovely 🌹
we know that
@@jaiylahjaii exactly 🙄
It's quite obvious ;)
We actually use stammer and stutter interchangeably. ;)
In the uk/ England we normally call it a stutter but stammer is the medical term for it
Aw my goodness…when she was standing there with her fiancé and they talked about being in their 12th year…
The way she scrunched her shoulders and smiled ear to ear!!
I want that kinda love ♥️♥️

I noticed that too she’s so in love and that’s so sweet! ♥️ just to see how excited she is
Adorable!!
HEY GIRL! We actually chatted on TikTok one day and I'm so glad to see you here on "Born Different". Stammering is what makes you STAND OUT, and screw anyone who has a problem with it; they just wish they were interesting in some way like you! 😉
KEEP IT UP... You're awesome, strong, brave, and beautiful, and we're all here for you! 😘✌️💜
Wow what an incredible woman. I’m so happy she found love 💜
She lights up with her fiance. U can tell they really love eachother. Also anyone notice how her stammer became significantly less when she was talking to him or infront of him. When she was looking at him while speaking she improved significantly. I love that they found eachother & have eachother. Many blessings to them both🥰❤
Yes! I noticed! Isn't that so cool and awesome?!
She's more relaxed with him. Her breathing is balanced so her words just flow.
Notice how when her situation became a tad more stressful, everything locked in.
i have had a stammer since i could talk, my mum put me through speech therapy but that somehow made it worse. drive throughs have always been my worst nightmare but seeing this Gorgeous woman push through it, helped me push through it too. thankyou for just being you and sharing it with the world. youre helping more than you know!
Aww you’ve got this 💕
You can do it girl! I'm so proud of you, keep going Arial ❤❤❤
Issa glow up I see you girl. Confidence and self love is everything. 😍
She's one strong lady! I have anxiety and when I talk to people, especially someone I don't know, I forget words or I stumble or just forget altogether what we were talking about. She just keeps on trucking! I really admire her strength. I'm sure her story will inspire many people. I wish her all the best in life!
Hahahahahaha
This happens to me all the time, I thought I was just distracted (my anxiety telling me that)
Being someone who stammer I really can relate how difficult it can be sometimes.
I'm proud of you dear.
I love that she stepped out of her comfort zone and has done so many public speaking events it definitely helps others who have a stutter know they aren’t alone 💕
This is amazing
I’m 18 years old and semi verbal autistic, I most likely have a speech disorder. I struggle a lot with my verbal communication, it’s something I feel self conscious about. I often use my iPad to talk, or communication cards. I think they are really amazing, I am inspired :)
I used to stammer as a child. My family made me read aloud from books and encyclopedia which forced my brain to slow down. When I am in a stressful environment I start to stammer . She is beautiful inside and out and we understand 🙏🏾❤️
She's the sweetest. I loved that she recently tried talking in mirror and her stutter was almost gone
How many people can say they're this brave? Confronting something they find difficult everyday. She's inspiring! I've got work to do!
Beautiful young lady. So glad she was so brave to speak out and get awareness for people who stammer. Congratulations on the upcoming wedding.
This looks like it hurts physically as well as emotionally! What a beautiful woman & couple! ❤
I absolutely loved this video. She is amazing. She's such a role model for anyone struggling. She absolutely rocks. I admire her so much.
I love Jessie for her bravery and perseverance ❤️ Stammering and the struggles around it is such a close thing to my heart. My uncle suffered from a stammer. He hid in his house because of his anxiety and never lived the life he deserved or wanted to.
I was lucky enough to meet Jessie when she was doing random acts of kindness in Pontypridd, South Wales. She's a human ray of sunshine and super lovely 😍😍
This was a good one, kudos to her for putting herself out there, especially in a world that's so ill-mannered.
I am so proud of her! You go gorgeous!
I'm so happy she's in a good place & came to terms with herself even at a young age. Such an amazing advocate for others... She's beautiful inside and out. 😭💜
I don’t know her personally but I felt so much pride watching her conquer her fears 🥹❤️
You're a strong woman never feel otherwise!! Keep going you're great and motivation to many.
Im glad shes spreading awareness!!!!! I use to stutter as a child, so badly my school suggested that my parents put me in speech therapy for a year. Back in my days this was offered in elementary school for free in my district. As an adult I still do it when I'm nervous, but not to the extent it was before the therapy.
That's so cool your school district had it. I can't recall when I started stuttering but it happens to me too randomly most especially when I get super nervous and try to express myself within a short time frame frame.
@@chempanda6388 yeah it sad schools remove things like this from their budget. I don't know where I'll be if I didn't get this therapy in school (back in the 90s). I wish public schools invested more again in children's physical and mental health like they did when I was a kid... it all ties in with a proper learning environment.
Have a great day ❤️
I’ve seen her a few times on tiktok! She’s such an amazing person
What's her TikTok user name?
Jessie you are amazing, as an autistic Mum to two autistic teens I find your courage and determination so inspiring! God bless you both, I pray you will have a long, happy and healthy marriage and life!
I’ve a stammer too, it’s so tough sometimes. Jessica you are marvellous, sending empathy and love♥️
you can tell that she's rlly trying to say the words. she is so pretty and wholesome. sending lots of love. as someone who used to stutter i know how it feels to say smth but it just wouldnt come out. i eventually grew out of it but gurl u r a role model!!
How did you overcome it? I’m 24 and stutter but it seems like it’s gotten better over the years. I’m always looking for new techniques and strategies though!
To put yourself out there is so courageous! Amazing because while people can be very mean they can also be incredibly kind
Beautiful.. 12 years together ❤ congrats!
absolutely amazing, so strong! keep being you xxxx
I love when she messes up see goes back and corrects it ! She is such and inspiration
Feels like he gave her the confidence she needed was a lot better then when she was speaking alone I love it
I love her energy, go girl!✨
Growing up as a child I stammered alot and this affected my self esteem, but I as grew I noticed the stammering reduced drastically, I'm so proud of you Jessie, people don't understand what it means and how it feels to be a stammerer. I'm proud of you Jessie
Wow this really hit my heart.
As a child I stuttered from age 10 to my late 20s early 30s. It was extremely frustrating to communicate with people. Sometimes I would just shut down and not speak to anyone for weeks. Coming from a dysfunctional house hold I believe caused my stuttering. The anxiety. The nervousness. The verbal violent out burst from both parents at any given time would set off the condition. They thought I would just grow out of it but them and the environment I was living in was the main reason it lasted so long. I feared talking to people. Even saying Hello was a challenge at times. I'm in my 50s now and my stuttering is under control.
You seem like a great person.!That's all that matters. Just do the best that you can, and don't worry about the rest. We all have problems. Bless you
Way to go, Jessie! I am so glad you’re feeling more and more confident to share your wonderful self with the world :) You seem to totally light up the room when you speak and smile! Please don’t ever stop!! xo
I am so proud of you, thank you for sharing this. I have stuttered all my life, it's inherited from my great grandmother and grandfather to many relatives of varying degrees. Since age 8 or 9 I have been in speech therapy and, unfortunately, regular therapy since kids can be so mean and that left me, at the time, with self esteem issues. Today I speak more fluently, but there are still words that I cannot say well, communication does not always flow easily, and I prefer to be a listener than a talker, but at least I do feel less anxious about speaking and not being judge or laughed at like when I was younger.
I am so proud of this lady. It takes alot of courage to step out and be so vulnerable with a stammer. She did so well.
I remember my younger days. I was just like her every time I used to speak. Due to stammering, I was unable to participate in any school competition due to my speech issues as school mates laugh at me every time I utter a word. I used to cry a lot in front of them too. My math teacher (private one) asked me to speak slower than usual speed then things got better. I can speak better slowly and I am now almost 95% free from my speaking condition. No more tears. In case, if you find a stammer, please encourage to speak slowly and give confidence to him/her!!!

I found Jessie’s determination and fantastic outlook in later life amazing I got upset at how her childhood had been and a mother of children that have been bullied I just thought how hard it must of been for her as children are cruel
Never judge a book by its cover as you will more than likely see that that isn’t truely the book you’ve read

Pardon me if I don't phrase this properly but I would absolutely enjoy talking to her all the time as I could stay focused and have the strong desire to hold the conversation. I don't hear well at all and I am easily discouraged having to ask ppl to repeat themselves. She makes me smile inside as she has admirable courage that we all can learn from & encourage each other to possess. Thank you for spreading your light with the world. 💙😁
