  • In 2024, Texas Motor Speedway is one of the most hated tracks on NASCAR’s schedule, due to poor racing quality. This isn’t a new issue for the track, as Texas was once the most hated track in NASCAR due to a completely different issue - safety. Several reconfigurations and repaves were attempted in the first few years of racing in desperation to retain NASCAR and Indycar races. Several tragic accidents raised concern for drivers, teams, and series executives alike - eventually resulting in CART refusing to take the series to Texas. In this video, we will discuss the accidents and events that led to Texas Motor Speedway’s business and PR nightmare, and how they overcame these challenges.

To be fair, some of these accidents had nothing to do with the tracks configuration or layout.
But it did take them several seasons to get the track right. I believe by 99, drivers said it was much better. However, what I don't understand, is when they redid the track several years ago, they did something totally different and it didnt work, yet they didnt learn from their original mistakes in the late 90s. @danielfoster3642 2 месяца назад +2

It failed from 2017 to 2021, but the track has been good since the Next Gen car debuted in 2022. People don't get the full scope on why it failed. At the same time Texas was being repaved, NASCAR was in the middle of decreasing horsepower and increasing downforce, which honestly was the main reason why Texas failed, as did other 1.5 mile races like the Coca Cola 600. I think if NASCAR never went the low horsepower high downforce path, the racing at Texas probably would have become great hits during that time. Not classics by any means, but solid races.

This is a great video on something I've never new about my homestate track. However, I need to get this off my chest about the track.
Now I get the reason that Texas is hated as it replaced NWB and Rockingham, but in my opinion, this track is overhated. The track nowadays can produce an at the very least a half decent show with the current car and after it was bumped down to one date after 2022, it has had good attendance even with a move to early in the season, so that shows that people care about the track. The "Texas should be demolished" quote is honestly too harsh. Like, do you guys want to demolish a track for the sole reason of it does not have good racing? That's probably the most petty excuse anyone could give about removing the track from the calander. We already have a problem with tracks being demolished thanks to other reasons, and we want this track to be demolished simply because of that reason alone? I like the NASCAR community, but my god, these guys can overreact to a lot of things.
