    There were a lot varied techniques in doing something that, on the surface, seems rather simple and straight forward. There was a lot to absorb. Again, and as usual, this was a great tutorial.

      +DrinkingStar Thanks! This is one of the trickier things to get right. Fairly easy for wild hair colors but requires more work for natural looking hair.

    It was interesting watching you make use of the masking layers. If you decide to get adventurous and adjust the hardness of your brush, does it default at some point to the factory setting, or do you need to make the adjustment back to its initial setting? Thanks again George for a great tutorial.

      Hi Brian, Photoshop Elements remembers your last brush setting. So if you close down PSE and then re-open it will still have the last brush, so you will need to reset to a different brush if needed.

    Good day, I love your tutorials and advice and I please need your advice. I have Photoshop Elements 11 and I tried this tutorial of changing the hair blond. I cannot drag a layer mask to another layer, it seems locked, when I try to drag the layer mask down to my background copy picture I get the NO ENTRANCE sign - please can you help me - why would that be? Many thanks.

      Hi Ester, I no longer have a copy of Elements 11 around to test this on. Adobe may have added that layer mask drag option in a later version, or maybe not. Try holding down the alt key when you drag, that copies the layer mask instead of moving it, maybe that will work. You may want to consider upgrading your version of Photoshop Elements, version 11 is getting rather out of date and in version 15 Adobe fixed a lot of the problems in the earlier versions.

    Help. Once I Lasso the hairline and then do the Refine Edge selection (including size of the brush), I don't get an icon for the brush. Instead, the icon for the Lasso tool remains - as though I am still wanting to Lasso something. Can't figure out what I am doing wrong. Am using Elements 2022. Advice?

      With your selection brush make your selection. Now with the selection brush still active click on the Refine Edge button, then do your refining. Don't click on any other tool or hit the enter/return key, just start painting. If you hit enter it will cancel out the Refine Edge brush and put you back to the lasso tool.

    I would like to see you demo a project that would modify a photo of a sculpture (e.g., a Rodin) into a human of the same pose. Create flesh tones, hair color, hair and skin textures, and eyes.

      Sounds like a good job for AI, but all the AI tools online have filters against nudes, so won't work.

    Hi George, great video. I have a question though. I'm using this on a Macbook Air with elements 18After I do the lasso I choose refine edge I lose the picture. It's all white except for the lassoed section. I don't get the pink overlay like you to be able to clean it up. Could this be a Mac glitch? Thanks for any help.

      Hi, when you are in the Refine Edge tool look at the drop down list at the top of the box for View mode. Change the mode to Overlay.

    How do you create a background layer? Adobe expressions has no indication how to do this.

    • @HTGGeorge
      @HTGGeorge  9 месяцев назад

      Adobe Express is basically Adobe's version of Canva. Canva is much better and I don't recommend using Express. Now in Photoshop Elements, which is what this video is about, you add a new layer by either clicking on the New Layer button, top left of the Layer panel, or by going to the Layer menu and clicking New. Then just drag and drop that layer to the position you want it. In PSE there is usually an automatic background layer. If you are working with a photo and you want to make a new layer behind the photo the best thing to do is to right click on the name of the layer and choose Duplicate layer, then add a new layer behind the duplicate. Leave the original layer where it is as a safety layer in case something goes wrong and you need to start over.

      Great Idea Clive, I haven't done any videos on changing a persons hair (aside from color), or changing amounts or style, or adding hair, or for that matter removing hair. Lots of ideas here for some fun projects. Maybe even adding hair to a pumpkin for Halloween! Just thinking out loud.

    Could you please give me info to change hair to a bleached blonde?

    • @HTGGeorge
      @HTGGeorge  6 лет назад

      Hi, the easiest way to get hair to a bleach blond look is to first duplicate the layer and on the new duplicate mask out just the hair using a layer mask. Now convert that layer into black and white, removing all color information. Then use a Levels Adjustment layer (clipped to the hair layer) to get the hair to the values that you want. Then add a fill layer above that also clipped and fill that layer with a nice very light yellow. Then blend that color layer into the hair layer using Blend modes, I would try Soft Light first but a different blend mode may give you better results depending on the picture. The success of this technique depends on the original picture. Bleach Blond hair tends to have strong highlights and very subtle shadows, if the original does not have strong highlights then it will be difficult to get a convincing bleach blond look. This really is the same trick as colorizing a black or white object (black for dark hair, white for light hair). Just keep in mind the success of any hair color change really depends on the original photo, if it has the proper lighting for this to work, brighter light with strong highlights works best.
