    The Young Turks are fearless in talking about the issues that matter. We are a rare show that combines all of the news that people care about in one place. We cover politics, entertainment, sports, and pop culture; all through a progressive lens.
    What does it mean to be a “Young Turk?”
    According to the American Heritage Dictionary;
    1. Young progressive or insurgent member of an institution, movement, or political party.
    2. Young person who rebels against authority or societal expectations.
    "Sharp-witted, persuasive, and inspiring, calling out toxic Republicans, politely-ineffectual Democrats, and mealy-mouthed media mavens in equal measure, JUSTICE IS COMING will give heart to Democrats and progressives who seek to change our politics and society for the better.
    The media can’t stop talking about the gridlock in Washington, as if a handful of stubborn Republicans are the only thing standing between us and a fully-functional democracy. The reality is that our government has been taken over by big business and their allies in both political parties. The getaway driver in this heist was corporate media. The good news is that the American people are very progressive. And soon progressives will take over Washington as well! And when they do, the great majority of Americans will love it.
    In JUSTICE IS COMING: How Progressives Are Going to Take Over the Country and America Is Going to Love It (On sale: September 19, 2023), The Young Turks founder Cenk Uygur presents two ideas that counter everything we hear from pundits and politicians on a daily basis: one, progressives are correct on all issues, and two, America is actually a very progressive country. Millions of us know that we are a part of something larger, a movement that is already transforming Washington.
    JUSTICE IS COMING, a compulsively readable manifesto, seeks to apply the momentum progressives have already built to a concrete progressive agenda that activists, voters, and citizens can all rally around. JUSTICE IS COMING looks beyond Trump to the larger historical forces that have given us this unique political moment, and explains why we should fight, how we should fight, and how we will win."

    President Obama signed a law providing $100 billion in additional funding for education. While most of that money went to states to protect teaching jobs, support low-income and special needs students, and provide college grants, $5 billion was set aside to drive reform and innovation, and another $3 billion for turning around the lowest-performing schools. President Obama also made a number of significant investments over the course of his tenure, including increasing funding for Pell Grants by more than $50 billion and increasing investments in early childhood programs by more than $6 billion.

The only thing that has changed is what is spent per student. Adjusted for inflation in 1978 public schools spent on average $3750 per student. Now we are spending over $15,000. This money isn’t going to teacher or students. It is being eaten up by a bureaucracy that accomplishes nothing.

      Is the analysis of “before DOE” and “after DOE” correct? In actual analyses like this, an important factor is that they control for other variables that may impact the result. Obviously the world has greatly changed since 1979 in many ways that impact children’s education that the DOE is not responsible for. Even “scores.” Are the exams the same as before? I remember when I took the SAT, it was out of 2400, then it was out of 1600 for a while. Did SAT scores decrease by 1/3 overnight?

The pushback is often about how to fairly evaluate teachers across locations and environments. I 100% disagree this can’t be done effectively. There are plenty of ways this is done in parallel jobs commercially. Instead of just criticisms about Dept of Education, I hope to see a re-focus on how to improve or reform it. If that means starting from scratch to rebuild it, fine, I just want to see it move to a next step!

    What are things that can be done to reform the education system? When communism began rising in China and Russia, one of the things they did was target the education system, target professors, and reinstate their own educational standards which were not academic but as a means to reinforce loyalty towards the ruling parties. I don't want to see that happen here. I get the sentiment that some political leniency towards leftist progressivist things get into it, which is a frustration with some conservatives on an ideological basis. I get the idea that some of the pathways for degrees are unnecessarily lengthy and require classes that aren't even associated with the desired degree.
    Again, going back to the rise of communism and all other complete failures of political experiments during the 1900s, whenever those institutions rose to power they'd go after things that provided the public with the knowledge that and critical thinking required to oppose these ideologies. Its why book burning is bad and why we oppose censorship period, because as soon as politics control the narrative, than truth becomes a matter of whim. This can also be a criticism of politics in the education system, if they control the reading material and the messaging teachers give, its all the same. You don't need to remove education if you can corrupt it to your own ends. Either way its something we can't get rid of but what solutions to it's failings are there?

Most parents do not force their kids to read at home, most parents do not work with teachers on a plan for their failing kids and most parents are such overprotective parents that literally their kids can do no wrong and instead everything is the schools fault so they make it impossible for the school to do their jobs sometimes. Now, is the education system perfect? No, there is room for improvement, but parents need to stop being lazy when it comes to their child's education and they need to start taking some accountability for this, and they also need to stop shoving electronics on their kids faces just so they don't have to deal with them

    I think Cenk gives too much credit to the idea that Donald Trump values public opinion more than anything. He has the power now, he doesn’t need to care about public opinion. No his priority is to enrich himself and that’s it.
