I'm 47, I haven't played 40k (or 30k) in 30 years, and I have nobody to play with (yet), BUT I'll still be buying this boxed set.... even if simply for nostalgia purposes, to thumb through the new rule book and feel like I've found a worm hole which provides a lens to my youth... FOR THE EMPORER!!!!!!!!
I'm gonna start playing these games against myself to learn them and also so I know I'm never gonna disagree with the other player! Plus you can use proxies, house rules, switch between Legions Imperialis and NetEpic Gold...
Hope you found someone to play with!
The rules are really similar to the 40k Apocalypse stand-alone game, so the history there suddenly makes a lot of sense. Those rules were my preferred way to play 40k (even/especially for normal sized games). I already have a 6mm board for BattleTech using Titanicus terrain, I'll have to see if I can split a box with somebody.
Yup, this is spot on
Yeah, can't wait for Apocalypse 10th edition :D
Thanks a lot for this review. Really interesting to read it from the perspective of someone who has played the previous games and can compare it. I came into Epic with 2nd edition (and still play today! As well as Armaggedon) but it feels like a possibly conservative but sensible continuation of the original game. Perhaps won't be everyone's cup of tea (and I know especially Armaggedon fans tend to have a very strong liking of that system!) but I'm glad they have 'stood on the shoulders of giants', as it were
Superb video - and really smart commentary. Thanks!
Great stuff. I've already ordered but glad to hear that you think it's fun and flavourful!
Thanks for these videos, Ash! Helped me pull the trigger on this release.
that pause at 7:12 freaked me out 😂
Very excited to see an in depth on terrain, it'd be a real psa because in a few weeks or even now people will be building terrain for LI, from a glance it looks like people may want to take a different direction than how they might have built for titanicus, but that's just a cursory impression, would love to have it all broken down, AT's terrain rules were like 1 page, LI's look more extensive.
Yeah the terrain is a big deal! I’m excited to dig into it on Wednesday!
@@GuerrillaMiniatureGames Awesome, stoked :)
So i need to come back on Thursday as i have that space marine book on my desk right now.
Great insights Ash.
Saturday morning review! 🥳🥳🥳
Nice review! Did you write a stompy robot wargame as well? I think i heard that somewhere. Given all your experience id be interested in checking that out.
@@EmeryCalame Thanks for the heads up man. I recognize the Death Ray Designs one so I'll be giving that one a purchase!
Interesting that the terrain.... i don't usually like to play 'x did it better/first' but i do wonder if some cues have been taken from Dropzone Commander....
Thanks so much for all the great videos!
They’re actually pretty close to the original Space Marine epic scale building rules from the eighties. The box came with tons of card and plastic buildings and they were a key feature of the combat back then.
Do they have vindicators and whirlwinds?
Was that the construction ruining the take? This looks fun.
My interest is in whether you can mesh Titanicus and Aeronautica with Legions seamlessly, and if the point values between the different games are one-for-one or different.
Thanks for the basic overview, though.
They’re all entirely different games. The points and rules do not cross over. You can include Titanicus and Aeronautica MODELS in this game, but the rules bear no similarities.
@@GuerrillaMiniatureGames Thanks. Useful info.
i know have an excuse to assemble the rest of my titanicus box...now lets see how this order que goes
How does it compare to Epic 40K and Epic Armageddon? If one preferred those editions for instance.
Are there no rules for the 18 sm legions or titan legions specifically?
Check the army list videos! The legions yea, legios no
amazing, thanks! @@GuerrillaMiniatureGames
Any word on if you can play a “real” game on a smaller table size than 5’ x 4’? As in missions and point’s levels with less than 3000p on smaller table sizes?
How big a board does it suggest?
5x4’
Me and my friend each got one, could we just play the armies out of the box or should we combine the two together.ty doug
I’d swap sides with them and just double the amount you’ve got for a single army. Your still only be able to use one titan at a time but you’d probably be able to clock about a 1200pt game.
@@GuerrillaMiniatureGames sounds good ash ty the help and vids
@@douglaslove8976 you’re welcome!
For me, this game is both the best and worst thing GW has put out in a long time!
Epic was absolutely my favorite game back in the day!
The rules look solid and interesting!
However, I played Orks, and I have absolutely zero interest in 30k.
Tldr as always with everything GW makes. Better then 40k to play.
Comments
I've been hoping the new intro music would grow on me. It really hasn't. Content as great as ever, though.
Too dear and I don’t want to commit to another game system.
I was set to go all in on this, but two things have put me off.
1. The price. For 8mm scale those prices are horrendously high.
2. The lack of terrain in the core box. Seeing as 8mm buildings are essentially to the game, not having any in the core box means that the core box is only half of what is needed to start playing. The terrain that GW sells is again very expensive.
Theee all add up to giving a false sense of cost to entry. The $155 of the core set is not correct as the €130 Legions Imperialis: Civitas Imperialis Administratum Sector is also required. This means it is €285 for an 8mm game to be playable.
Just too high in this day and age.
3D printer go whirrr!
Yes, GW pricing is indeed hard, if you want to field a 3k points force it's gonne be quite a few bucks. Regarding the terrain the price should be considerably less since you need 1 terrain for both players, if you play in a group or club that can be split among more persons.
The high prices and finicky rules made me cancel my pre order
