As as the above comment says, they are essentially a cadet branch of the Targaryens. The first Baratheon was a half brother of Aegon the conqueror. Roberts grandmother was a Targaryen. It is through her that Robert was able to have a legit claim to the throne. Even how their last name is spelt is more similiar to Valyrian last names than Westerosi ones.
If you study any royal family (at least western), this is actually very normal and true to medieval and modern culture. It's very common to use a small host of reused names that are interchanged between generations, like King Henry the 8th, was, well, the 8th person of recognition with that name in his bloodline. And since the Targaryen family is Westeros' closest relative to a royal bloodline comparable to historical European royal families, it makes sense how their naming system follows a similar method as ours.
i get it but think about the Byzantine empire for example. 11 fucking Constantines sat on that throne. Dynasties and legacies depend on that repetition of family names
Even regular people did that, not just royalty. There's an Arlyne in several generations of the maternal side of my family (as a middle name, of which i too currently carry)! My paternal grandpa's name is William Edward Williams-my dad's (his son's) name is Charles Edward Sr., and his son (my youngest brother) is his Junior. My maternal grandmother was Fern Arlene; my mother (her daughter) being Fern also (she doesn't have Arlene as her middle name; gave me Arlyne as my middle name). Long-story short? This was a common practice for the majority of races/ethnicities; approx. the yrs 1500-mid-1900s.

All of his other achievements and his life in general is dictated by the sheer charisma he had. Daemon the Rogue Prince noteable mention for just being that anti-hero badboy of the family. Rhaegar for his melancholic and passionate prince/warrior personality. Aemon the Dragonknight not mentioned enough but would love to know more about him as this stable and honourable/knightly Targaryen. Maegor the Cruel opitomises brutal and ruthless politics so always interesting. Daemon Blackfyre not a Targaryen but an honourable mention too.
Jaehaerys I is my favorite Targaryen King...He was the most understanding and humble...reading Fire & Blood and seeing his reign compared to Maegors before was a breath of fresh air.

When it was revealed in the show that Jon's true name is Aegon, I thought it was ridiculous because Rhaegar already had a son named Aegon as well. Watching HOtD now, I realized that the Targaryen urge of naming their children after the conqueror is almost irresistible, they didn't have enough Aegon's 😂😂

The title is called "Every Member of House Targaryen Explained" except the ones you omitted to avoid future possible spoilers for yourself, plus you also missed a lot of characters and just talked about the rulers mainly.
I make these videos for my own enjoyment. Spoiling myself for the show I love watching would ruin my enjoyment, which would be counterproductive. You can always look at the Wiki and learn more about characters I didn’t cover, but I just wanted to talk about the characters that personally interested me the most

These videos are very fun for me to make and people have been enjoying them which makes me happy. The title and thumbnail format is inspired by another RUclipsr I watch and I like the format because it takes a lot of information and condenses it into a video that isn’t super long. If you don’t like the format that’s completely okay, I’m not making the video for you, rather people like me who like this format and also are interested in the same things I am. Also that’s awesome you read the books, I have not but I plan to some day! I love the world George created and it’s been my obsession since I watched the show in 2017
In the book i think he was,but in the show he annules his marriage to Elia and basically cut his ties with his kids and made them bastards so that he can marry Lyanna.I really hate it what they insinuate in the show.They had made Rhaegar who was already kinda a controversial characther ,to be plain a.shole.

When it was revealed in the show that Jon's true name is Aegon, I thought it was ridiculous because Rhaegar already had a son named Aegon as well. Watching HOtD now, I realized that the Targaryen urge of naming their children after the conqueror is almost irresistible, they didn't have enough Aegon's 😂😂

yea maybe don't make an explained video if you're not actually willing to explain half the other characters just to avoid spoilers. The title is called "Every Member of House Targaryen Explained" except the ones you omitted to avoid future possible spoilers for yourself, plus you also missed a lot of characters and just talked about the rulers mainly.
I make these videos for my own enjoyment. Spoiling myself for the show I love watching would ruin my enjoyment, which would be counterproductive. You can always look at the Wiki and learn more about characters I didn’t cover, but I just wanted to talk about the characters that personally interested me the most

Same reason why most first timers watching HOTD wont watch an spoiler vid let alone make one on what happens at the end of the Targaryen civil war. Why make a video in the first place if its just for u? The grabby title wasn't for the views and algorithm? Also Fire & Blood is where i got my info from not just quick reading the wiki.
These videos are very fun for me to make and people have been enjoying them which makes me happy. The title and thumbnail format is inspired by another RUclipsr I watch and I like the format because it takes a lot of information and condenses it into a video that isn’t super long. If you don’t like the format that’s completely okay, I’m not making the video for you, rather people like me who like this format and also are interested in the same things I am. Also that’s awesome you read the books, I have not but I plan to some day! I love the world George created and it’s been my obsession since I watched the show in 2017

In the book i think he was,but in the show he annules his marriage to Elia and basically cut his ties with his kids and made them bastards so that he can marry Lyanna.I really hate it what they insinuate in the show.They had made Rhaegar who was already kinda a controversial characther ,to be plain a.shole.
