🟢 Chapters for specific parts of the video:
I was told this is the best restaurant in BGC, which was your favourite dish?! 😮
Kare-kare, however do not pour the entire bagoong into the kare-kare dish. use the bagoong sparingly and separately because it is too salty. use your spoon to scoop a small amount of bagoong to control the saltiness according to your liking. Sometimes, calamansi is added to it to balance the taste.
You don't put the whole bagoong in the kare kare. It's a dipping sauce. So, you get some meat ir veggies and add bagoong. Just a little bit or to taste because it's too salty.
The sweet drink, I don't know if it was made with real purple yam or flavoring, the small balls are called sago made with tapioca. Suppose to mix it lightly. Halo halo on the otherhand should be mix well to incorporate all ingredients. Me, i eat the yam, ice cream and flan fist to taste if its good before mixing.
The curry is not curry, it's peanut sauce with coconut cream. The peanut could be real or sweet peanut butter. Authentic kare kare uses pure peanuts.
P800+ bill with 3 viands, good for 3-4 people.
It's almost a fusion restaurant (Manam). If you want the best filipino restaurant, try Abe (Ah-Beh) in Serendra, BGC or Kamayan (Kah-Ma-Yan) in Manila. Also the BEEF KARE-KARE is not a curry. Kare-Kare is a peanut stew not a "curry". Unfotunately the most famous FILIPINO dishes aren't JALAL because pork is a staple more than beef/lamb in the Philippines. Enjoy!
Also, chicken sisig isn't the authentic sisig bec. sisig is originally made with pig's head meat that's minced. Try "chicken inasal" (native grilled chicken) at JT's (name of the joint) and BULALO (buu-lah-loh). JT's & Bacolod's Chicken is more authentic than Mang Inasal (This is a fast food chain and food is commercially prepared).
The bagoong you can put it little by little depending on how salty you want the kare kare to be...
I will next time 😋
Filipino foods are flavorful umamiful, sometimes salty because it meant to be paired with rice always, if you could only learn our way of eating our foods, I assure you, you'll definitely be enjoying every Filipino meal you'll be having. I was a bit shock when you poured all the shrimp paste into the Karekare it was meant to be a dip that is why it is seperately served, just a pinch amount added to a spoonful of rice and Karekare to add flavor to it!. ☺️☺️☺️
I was also shocked when I tasted it 🤦♂️😂
@@YadVenturess haha..I get your point...it must have been shocking! Hehe
It's called Kare kare....it's made of peanut base sauce NO CURRY added to that dish FYI🙏...It's eaten with shrimp paste on side...Normally Kare kare it should taste a bit bland and you put a small amount of shrimp paste to add more flavor and aroma to balance the blandness
Thanks for sharing Mario! Interesting to learn about the best way to eat it!
It is a bit of an acquired taste and should actually taste not so sweet and peanuty but bland mixed with a bit if shrine paste on the side with a chunk of oxtail and veggies.. Also most people think our dishes are sweet and sugary but not true
yea you can put red hot chilli peppers on it to make it spicy too.
You only put a thumb size of the shrimp paste, not all of it or it becomes unedible, too salty.
@@YadVenturess Kare-Kare is not curry, but we do have Curry dishes in the Philippines.
Omg that purple yum shake😋😍
Omg it was so so good!!!! 😍
Wow karekare is one of filipino fave here in the phils.thanks for tasting our pinoy foods.more mukbang to come and happy 25subscribers yad.👍😍😄🙏
Thank you so much 😊🙏
Can’t wait to explore BGC properly next month!! 😍 we stopped by there to extend carinas visa to another month.
Love the video brother, what’s your favourite Filipino food? 😂
Enjoy it brother! Eat loads of food
Just sharing a bit of info with you. I'm not 100% sure if this is the best way to eat it BUT this is what my mom taught me. When eating "Kare kare" (Philippine version of curry), you actually mix a pinch, a small amount of the shrimp paste (maybe 1/6 of your tablespoon) with every tablespoon of kare kare and then you mix that with a little bit of white rice (maybe 1/2 tablespoon). And you eat all of that together. Pretty sure you'll appreciate the taste a lot more.
Yes I agree! I deffo made a mistake here 🤦♂️
Yea when he dumped the whole thing into the leftovers I already knew it was gonna be all bad lol
Kare kare usually not sweet, but most restaurant here in the Philippines use a peanut butter instead of pure grind peanut, that's why it is very sweet.
Exactly. That's why restaurant kare-kare will always be inferior to home-made ones.
That makes sense!
Keep going, you deserve support💕.
Thank you brother
Good choice for a restaurant, there are lots of good and very tasty dishes they offered in manam you might be get impressed again salamat always take care and God blessed 👍😊
Salamat Alano! thank you for watching :)
🇵🇭❤️ Delicious! Enjoy! 👍
Thank you ❤️😊
@@YadVenturess I took my son to BGC Manam last Christmas. We also ordered the Kare-kare and Sisig. You didn't try the Salmon Sinigang which is perfect combination for the Kare-kare too. There's always a Next time.🤟
Love Kare because it’s kind of sweet because of
Peanuts and shrimp paste as well
And sisig it’s all that food I love and hope you enjoying the Philippines 🇵🇭 travel 👍
Thank you so much for watching!! It was deffo a very interesting taste
Thank you 'yad "for visiting my country. Stay safe.
My pleasure! thank you for watching :)
Great video. Funny thing is my family and I appeared in the background in Manam. 😄
No way! you should of came and said hello :)
@@YadVenturess We didn't know who you were at the time. Last week we just randomly came across your video and were like, "hey, we saw that guy at Manam."
Yes, it's a good idea to ask them (any of the staff) to explain or ask for recommendations especially if you don't have any idea WHICH ONE IS WHICH & WHICH NONE IS REALLY YUMMY... GOOD JOB....That's what I usually does when I go to places that I'm not familiar with...ENJOY.
That's a great idea!
Hi Jad, i got hungry while watching you from Germany. Enjoy…
Haha I can imagine!! Which was your favourite dish? 😍
the purple drink is UBE, I'm very surprised you haven't heard of it before since you've been here for a quite a while 😆 It's the Philippines' most iconic flavor. Ube is purple yam (different from a sweet potato) that is heavily used in different sweet delicacies, from bread, cakes, ice cream, drinks, etc. when you think of Philippines, one of the things that comes up is Ube. Ube is a very big deal and a pinoy icon when it comes to flavoring
Good to know! Honestly one of the best drinks i've ever tasted!!!
I could already see so many comment telling you about the te Kare Kare 😂. Again, it wasn’t explained to you properly by the waiters. You must try it again. Sisig is my favourite too! Glad you still enjoy!! 😍🇵🇭🇦🇺
yea that waiter was a bit of a fail.
I agree I wish the waiters helped me a bit more. He wasn’t too engaging when I was asking questions he was just rushing me throughout 🤦♂️
quite an honest review
🙏
i like it very nice
❤️❤️❤️
sinigang is the best soup, you might try it next in your food blog
Next time for sure! :)
That’s all my favorite huhuhu…I’m hungry
Yum!!
when yad poured all the bagoong into the bowl, i was like.. oh nooooooo.....
😂🤦♂️
Kare kare is famous Filipino dish. They have peanut butter, it goes with shrimp paste, just bit by bit not pour it over the who,e dish.
try bukalo ,kalderata ,lengua asado ,pares ..all bsse with beef
try keching manok ( chicken)
It’s good 👍
🙏
Magandang gabi po sir yad🤗🤗🤗
❤️❤️❤️
Oh my gosh, you put too much Bagoong (shrimp paste) in the Kare-kare, hehe. You should only put a little at a time. Actually the way we eat is we put just a little bit with every spoonful of Kare-kare and rice together. We don't dump all of the Bagoong in the bowl. Too bad coz this is actually one of our best dishes if eaten correctly.
Omg this is why it was so strong!!🤦♂️ I couldn’t believe how strong it tasted honestly 😅
He doesn’t do things in half measures 😂
@@dacedaine822 🤣
The waiter could have warned the diner about bagoong. Side dips and sauces are meant to be used like salt and pepper. Use them sparingly.
Dace we missed u again in Bgc vlogs. Lol .yad … I’m always waiting for your vlog .
I am Korean-Filipino sir, that’s exactly my favorite food in the Philippines… watching from South Korea…
Love to hear this! Thank you for watching 😊
kare kare dish add with peanuts
All dishes are taken with rice (taken together) in a typical Filipino meal. Thus, in the Philippines, normally, no one would take or eat a dish like sisig by itself. A pinch of shrimp paste always accompanies kare kare. But you don't mix the shrimp paste into the bowl of kare kare. You should use only a small amount per spoonful because shrimp paste is salty. It puts balance to the sweetness of kare kare. Balancing the taste makes the dish more flavourful and tastes its best.
Only the rich and people drinking liquor can eat viands without rice. 🤣
Btw, from what I know, the Barrio Fiesta (village feast) restaurants serve the original kare-kare and the best one for me. They've been doing it since 1952. Not all kare kare taste exactly the same. Other popular Filipino dishes are also available in this restaurant.
Thank you for sharing this! I do love rice with all my dishes too!
When we eat Kare-Kare we put a bit of everything on our spoons. A bit of rice, a bit of vegetables, a bit of meat, a bit of shrimp paste and a bit of sauce.
I’ll try that next time 😊
Tagaytay is just an hour from BGC try bulalo ( beef soup) and enjiy the cold weather 18-20 degrees
Sounds nice 👌
The kare-kare is the best yes with bagoong(smallest shrimp) but when you eat kare-kare you will put just a pinch of bagoong. The purple drink is ube or purple yam with sago or tapioca small balls or bubbles yes it's the best
It’s sooo good 🤩
for kare-kare(its made out of peanut butter ; beef trife; beef shank; string beans and pechay leaves with eggplant the color yellow is from annato/atsuette seeds)) you should have put a little bit of shrimp paste while you eat it you adjust the amount of shrimp paste according to your palate/taste :-)
Thanks for sharing 🙏😊
He poured all of the sauce on Kare kare and that's so salty yay
Kare kare is cooked with peanut butter and some vegetables and not a curry. They have no sugar. Just tiny shrimp paste not pour over. It’s a heavy dish. Eat it with rice. Some traditional restaurants cook it really well and delicious.
Thanks for sharing!!🙏looking forward to trying more in the future 😍
Kare kare is a Filipino dish of an oxtail stew. With peanut sauce, anatto extract or atchuete, mixed with veggies such as banana blossom, petchay, string beans and eggplant. It may have originated from the early Indian traders during the time before Spanish colonised the Philippines. Thus the name derived from curry. From the main ingredient of turmeric changed to anatto seed extract.
Thanks for sharing 🙏😊
When I saw the intro my mouth literally dropped when you poured all that bagoong into the kare kare. I was shocked. It's super salty and most folks only get a little dab for each bite. I personally am not a fan of bagoong so I like my kare kare as-is. But solid choice going to Manam. It's among my favorite restaurants. Good quality Filipino food and reasonably priced.
I'm starting to realise now after reading everyones comments that it was the wrong thing to do!! 😅
Yeah i also eat Kare kare without the bagoong, it's enough for me to consider it one of my best filipino dishes.
@@YadVenturess That's all right! I think the waiter led you astray and didn't really explain things well. Much respect to you for jumping right in! :) If I had a Manam near me I would eat there every day.
Mix it before you zip ( your drink ) it's called sago that little bubbles you said.and try bagoong to kare kare dish .that's the way Filipino eat kare kare
It tasted so yummy the drink!
karekare add shrimp paste it incredible
I think I added too much
Hello from New York …
Hello 👋
Hello Virgilio! Hope you enjoyed the dishes! 😎
The shrimp paste should be added moderately according to ur tastebuds. I suggest that u ask the food attendant how the food is eaten and mixed for a better taste experience.
Yes hopefully next time I will have to go with a local 😃
May I suggest you make the National Museum part of your itinerary.
Hopefully next time :)
u visit okada,mall of asia,libis,cebu,baguio
Yessss 🙌
yummy
😋😋
Heyyy easy on Yad you guys! 🤣 Wish i was there when you visited i would happily be your food guide!
Filipino dishes are good however they aren’t easy to introduce to non-filipinos due to the distinct flavours like that shrimp paste you poured all over the curry curry (kare-kare) lol just kidding! I am proud you were brave enough to try our dishes - i’m a foodie but can be fussy when eating local food while traveling so kudos to you!
BGC/Manila have great Japanese/Chinese/Korean restaurants though! I know, don’t ask. 😂
Loool I'm getting told off by everyone aren't I 🤣 But its ok Its all part of learning the new cultures :)
I'm sure if you was with me you would have recommended some awesome dishes!!
Kare Kare is berf cooked in peanut sauce and vegetabkez ..add a little bit of shrimp paste to taste
it is not a cutty
thanks for saying "PO"
My pleasure PO :)
The way I eat kare-kare is to take a half spoonful of the gravy drizzled over some rice(a spoonful i guess), then pick up a bit of some veggies, some beef and a pea size heap of the shrimp paste. Scoop up the rice and enjoy. For sisig, its always pork for me (tofu sometimes). Corn beef is a Manam specialty most likely. There are lots of places to eat in the metro. Just remember the foods here are meant to be eaten alongside rice and the dipping sauces (vinegar or calamansi with soy sauce + chili or fish sauce or bagoong/shrimp paste, etc)) always perks up anything you eat. Anytime you feel the food you eat is bland, it only means its missing the dipping sauce. Your waiter or host will always be glad to show you how to eat it.
Thank you for sharing this, next time i will make sure i have a better waiter!! 🙈
Bagoong in Karekare to make it taste not too many, nxt time Yad
🤦♂️🤦♂️🙏
Manam (an Ilocano word which means 'savory' in English) is a great place to try Filipino dishes, but Mesa (table in Spanish) is better imo. I don't think they have a branch at The Fort or as BGC is more popularly known but they have one at SM Megamall. Putting kalamansi to the bagoong (shrimp paste) will lessen the fishy aftertaste to it and it will taste better with kare-kare.
I’ll do this next time Alex 😊🤦♂️
There is MESA restaurant in SM Aura located in BGC
@@jinkycmdpsi that is good to know. Thanks.
Actually, our Filipino all time favorites are adobo, pork sisig, sinigang, menudo, to name a few.
I will have to try them one day! :)
You should try the Pinoy breakfast of ~SiLog options of Beef Tapa, Pork Longganiza, Pork Tocino, Corned Beef and Milkfish. Also, try Champorado with or without Dried Fish for breakfast or snack and Dinuguan with Puto.
It sounds like a dish I must try next time! Thank you for the tips! 🙏
btw, sorry for that Kare Kare encounter.
karekare best paired with saute shrimp paste
I think I added too much 🤦♂️
the Small balls its called sagu
It tastes soooo good 😋
I was shocked when you poured the shrimp paste (bagoong(on the Kare Kare you just have to put a very small amount to taste.
I was also shocked when I tasted it!! It was so strong 🤦♂️
❤❤❤
❤️❤️❤️
Try Beef caldereta,and Pork adobo.
👍
You just need to put a tiny bit of bago-ong (shrimp paste). Probably HALF a pea-sized amount. Yes that tiny portion because it has a very strong taste. So the perfect bite would be a spoonful of rice with some sauce, bite sized beef, and half pea sized amount of shrimp paste. You can just add more bago ong if that's too little for you. We don't mix it in the bowl like what you did. Maybe the waiter didn't explain it correctly.
You’re right he should have advised me better 🤦♂️🙏
you should eat kare-kare again for a redemption sicne everyone else in the comments are calling you out for eating it improperly 😆 kare kare is one of my favorite dishes ever because i love peanuts, it tastes amazing when eaten properly
I will have to try it properly you’re right!!
kare kare is not ca urry --it's a peanut-based stew. Bagoong shrimp paste is eaten with it --in a bite in small quantities along with rice. The saltiness of the bagoong needed because kare kare has sweetness from the peanut.
Thanks for sharing 🙏😊
0:10 scared the shit out of me
🙈
You should first try Adobo, Pancit, Lumpia, Kaldereta, BBQ, Sinigang before that Kare kare. The Kare-kare is with peanut sauce and with that fish sauce, my favorite but is not liked by my kids here in the US.
I’m going to try it for sure!!
Waiters really should do a better job explaining what the bagoong is for when eating Kare Kare. They can just say to treat it like salt to season the meat before eating, then it would be clearer to the diner what should be done.
That shrimp paste not enough used more fish sauce 5 tablespoons should do it
You're right! but the waiter didn't instruct me
you're not suppose to pour all the shrimp paste because it would taste salty.. just a little of it based on your taste that's how you eat Kare kare.
I am learning this now 🤦♂️
Aquino terrado cocoa tablea 🍫🍫🍫 pure cacao ....
Yum 😋
Kare Kare is different from curry dishes, Kare kare is a meat with vegetables in peanut butter sauce.
That's interesting so what i had was not Kare Kare?
@@YadVenturess it's the correct Kare kare dish alright but with all those bagoong you poured i don't know if the peanut butter flavor still prevailed.
OMG, you poured all of the bagoong into the kare-kare? The waiter should have said it shoukd be taken little by little just to perk up the peanuty taste sauce as it is very, very salty!
So salty! The waiter didn't tell me how to do it.. :(
😂🤣😂😍🙏
He told you the wrong way. You should only put a bit of bagoong on top of your rice and kare-kare then you scoop it up from your plate with your spoon. 🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣
Isn't that a taro drink with tiny tapioca? Taro = purple yam?
I’m not sure exactly but yes it’s purple yam 🍠 so good!
The waiter should have told to just add a pinch of shrimp paste to Kare-kare. I was so shocked when you poured half of into the bowl. I grimaced just watching you. I think the waiter looked shocked as well and was too polite or shy to stop you. It's like watching a horror movie😨
😂😂🤦♂️🤦♂️ You’re right he should have told me!
That shrimp paste is too much for that kare kare because its salty and fishy😝😝😝
You’re right it was sooooo fishy 🤦♂️😂
we dont put sugar in our karekare tho
It was very sweet though
Shrimp paste should not be mixed with the kare kare that much. It's very salty and must be added per bite just to give it a kick. Again, no-no to mix it the way you did hahaha
🙈
The waiter should have explained first the minimal usage of the shrimp paste and not just look on as Yad poured it all into the Kare Kare.
I agree!! 🤦♂️
I don’t have a favourite, they all look lush?
Glad you liked them!
That is just corned beef with fried egg - not beef sisig. Sisig is a different dish.
Kare-kare is different fron the curry - it is Filipino peanut stew. You put the shrimp paste to give it a salty taste.
Thank you for sharing!
I'm Filipina and I'm not really fan of sugar. I love my savoury food!
Me too!!
Where did you get your hair done because I have a receding hairline in front of my hair
Who said I’ve had my hair done? 🤣
@@YadVenturess
I think because your hairline looks fake or too even and it’s different color shades from the front and the back.
@@limelife7457 Random observation I must say! But unfortunately a wrong one. I don’t have any tips for your reseeding hairline as this is a travel channel. 😅
it's pork the sisig hahaha
It’s beef 🥩
It's not a curry. It's called kare-kare, a peanut based. Oh no, you don't put the entire bagoong sauce, it's just a dip. Filipinos always eat with rice. Rice serves as a balancer, for the savoury and saltiness. Without rice, one is overwhelmed by the fullness of the taste. That's why we eat with spoon and fork.
Thank you for sharing :)
you put alot of the bagoong that is very salty
Soooo salty!
My late mom cooks kare kare soooo good it made me fat, kare kare is not curry and it shouldn't be sweet, just a bit and the shrimp paste should be just a small portion per spoon serving.
I get home cooked is the best!
You ate the Kare Kare quite wrong. You ate it without shrimp paste and then you put so much shrimp paste. When you put some Kare Kare and rice on a spoon, get little amount of shrimp paste. With that you get the right balance of sweet and salty while eating it.
Next time mark!! 🙏🤦♂️
Kare2 is not curry,it's peanut sauce.5/10 is right .I don't like it too much either.
People have different taste.. Kare kare is the first dish i scope up in parties, since it's one of my favorite dishes! I also love Lingua and Balbacua!😋🤤
Interesting! I guess its an acquired taste ! :)
Kare-Kare isn't curry btw not even remotely close hahahaha! nice video!
Lol my bad, thank you for watching :)
The waiter should explain better how to eat Kare-Kare with Shrimp Paste to appreciate more by d foreigner.
What a lousy waiter who talked too fast as if foreigners will understand every word he said. If he was like that taking orders, you really cannot expect him to explain the food in detail when he lay it on the table.
Noooo! You are not supposed to pour all of the bagoong onto the kare kare. You mix small bits of bagoong to your kare kare with rice on it.
🙈🙈🙈
Holly craft!?! Did you just put all the shrimp paste on the kare kare😂🤣😂 the idiot server didn't even bother to tell you that you just need a bit of it for every bite! Geeezz
🤣🤣🤣 I know!!
Oh dear, you only need a tiny bit of the bagoong, but you poured the whole thing into the karekare. The waiter could have stopped you. I hope you managed to eat it, or did you finish it all? Cheers! As for the food being "sweet " it all happened in the last thirty years. It was NEVER like that before. How it all began angers me. I couldn't eat the spaghetti that is sweet. It's darn silly. Precisely why the women in that country have become obese. There were no obese or fat women in the 70's.
He really should have right? He was literally standing there 🤦♂️😅
Where is your Wife?
Relaxing
It should be eaten with pinoy ..ta appreciate karekare not curry
Next time!
can i ask? why u i cant see ur wife with ur last 2 or 3 vlog ?
She is in this vlog in the end 😊
@@YadVenturess ok, ty and GOD BLESS
Face palm as soon as I saw you pour the shrimp paste onto the kare kare bowl. No blame goes to you but all to the waiter. Waiters should be trained to guide customers, most specially foreigners, how to eat the food. No one orders that corned beef dish. The waiter should've pointed you to really popular items such as Watermelon Sinigang.
😂😂🤦♂️
I think you put too much shrimp paste on kare kare
Me too 🤦♂️
that was the mistake of the waiter serving a Foringer never explaining the menu and a combination food the Pilipino had to explain how much amount of saltines he added to the dish.
I have to agree!!
