In a twitch stream he just said that it was written in an angry self destructive mood. Masochistic. He made this in 2021. He was furious with his old management team. He basically wanted to destroy everything, even things that were considered “good “ or that he loved and tried to help him. Also, he was lashing out at his illness. It’s pretty brave of him to put this song out there….like he said, there’s gonna be a lot of offended people and he might lose subs and fans.
@@mshat18 There are plenty of people that WANT to be offended - but I don't think any of them are his fans. If anything, I think this could draw the ire of certain groups (certainly religious groups) which, if history has shown us anything, will actually draw more attention his way and bring in MORE fans.
Christians take crap every day and don’t care anymore. Maybe Jews but they care more about the Holocaust as their religion. Only Muslims would be offended.
@@mshat18I agree- - Anyone who knows Ren’s history and his fundamental nature can instantly relate to this piece. Fortunately, with his well-deserved success and improving health, he is in a somewhat different place. However, he will always rage against greed, hypocrisy and never sell out.
To me, this song was a permission to feel the darkest parts of myself I've been through a lot, and as a result I have had homicidal fantasies fueled by anger at the whole world and existence itself. If someone like Ren - someone I really look up to - has felt this way at some point, and he's brave enough to show that part of himself to the world, maybe it means that those intrusive thoughts and destructive fantasies don't make me a monster (lest I act upon them, of course). They make me human. Thanks you Ren, and thank you Aileen for not being judgemental! 💜💛💜
Thanks for a great reaction! The anarchist in me is so psyched about this song. The metaphors are not missed. We really do need to "reevaluate" all the shit around and within us. The masochist title, according to me, refers to the fact that all that "killing" hurts like hell. It is not without sacrifice we reevaluate and change the world. Killing of our attachments to all the outdated tradition costs us relationships. it costs us pain and suffering. But to radically turn this ship around we have to figure out how to do things differently. Just my take.
I really loved the beginning of the song where it he was referencing other songs which was a really nice call back to them, but in his own way! I can see what you mean by saying it's a guilty pleasure cause I was getting the same vibes from this song. That song was PACKED with a lot of good stuff and you're so right by it never being sloppy with how chaotic it can get! We definitely need more of this guy around
A little backstory on this song. He wrote it 2 years ago when he was really sick and suffering setbacks with his illness. He was mad at the world for the cards he has been dealt and used this song as an outlet. If you really analyze the lyrics it’s not just about killing. It’s a song about getting rid of any negative attachment and being reborn. He even states at the end of the second verse to kill the metaphors of your attachments. Also the role play verse about OJ is a huge clue that he is going to tell a story. It’s also very classic hip hop. Think Eminem, Dre, NWA, Etc. This style of unapologetic lyrics and really not giving a fuck about what people say is very common in the hip hop word.
Gotta admit... I'm not a Hugh Hip hop fan! And this track threw me for a loop! But after watching several others react to it who Knows Hip Hop... Saying it's impressive with all the callbacks! Gotta say it's grown on me! As a musician... he Never Fails to impress!!!
I seen a few comments on other sites where his fans were more then unhappy and saying he had done something terrible to "them". Their reaction pissed me off. How could they be like that? He writes from his truth, his heart, and his feelings. They should have been there for Ren, giving him what they so readily took from him before. I too have come to adore Ren's artistry and his compassion. I could see in this video a man lashing out at anything and everything, in sheer frustration and anger. Some forget he to is a Humanbeing.
I've accidentally stumbled upon your channel because I'm watching all analyzers of Ren music, especially Hi Ren. Reviewers from MDs, singers, and voice coaches, to a Psychiatrist and one Neurologist. Watching Hi Ren over 15 maybe 10 times, I watch analyzers expressions in wait for the last diaglog. NOT ONE can hold back tears or emotions. Some who always stop and comment as videos progress or comment at the end could say nothing after watching Hi Ren. I could even tell many of these videos had to be stopped and edited to get the reviewer a break and a chance to wash their faces from tears. I'm a super Viejo at 74 who built a wall to protect myself from hurt since childhood. I never cry, not at my best friend of 40 years' funeral, my loved dog's death, or even my Mothers funeral. I did not feel sad although I miss them all. You hit the nail on the head when you said watch Hi Ren was a catharsis for you. I'm the only person as far as I know to say the same thing. After 15 or more viewings I still have Niagra Falls flowing down my face and afterward I feel refreshed. I've posted his Hi Ren Video and although I have a large following on FB I can tell nobody has watched it. This video is a tough sell, especially to people like me who seriously dislike rap. Your Ren reviews are among my favs. Love your energy and appreciation for Ren. You understand him and that’s why your reactions to his music hit differently than many others. Selfishly I need you to react to more Ren. Always look forward to when you do. Much love.
My second favorite Ren's song after Illest of Our Time. Melts my heart when Ren goes completely mental reveling in nihilism and aggression. Totally banger.
The sounds he throws in the background are repersenting his influenza like symptoms, nausea and such from the lymes and fatige delirium from his MCAS(mast cell activation syndrome) He does it a great deal in some of his rap beats i love it. Its the realest thing you would never expect from normal music.

This might be my favourite Ren song. It's such a fucking vibe and I can very much relate to that feeling of anger and self destruction, where you feel so depressed and disillusioned that you want to burn everything to the ground. I can definitely see a lot of listeners and reactors who are religious, completely miss the point.
@@mshat18 First of all, he says prophets which is most likely a reference to Islam also, he uses Jehovah which is the Hebrew for the god of Israel and is used in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament).
