Tim Sargent well... 3bbb for an enchantment that causes you to no lose the game until you sac it to itself, the problem with mastery is that you need to play it late enough for it to be worth it (you need to be at a low life total) and you ultimately need enough cards in your graveyard to exile. Aside from these factors you need a lifegain subtheme for you to gain advantage off of it and that's restricting a bad addition to your deck even more. Main problem is that lichs mastery is a buildaround card and we're talking about a singleton format. And lastly most games don't last long and either opponents will kill you from out of nowhere or kill you with your own mastery
Amazing episode! Such good energy and positive banter, love it! Dont even play the format but really appreciate the discussions you have. Also been suffering from a mancold for the past week and this is the first time since ive actually been in a good mood. Keep up the excellent work and welcome back juuuuuuudge Serge! /Fred from 🇸🇪
So I’ve started building my own Highlander deck (4c Saskia Midrange) thanks to you guys. The problem is, nobody I know or have talked to here in Austin, TX has heard of Highlander. What would be some tips or pieces of advice you’d give to someone trying to bring Highlander to a community that for the most part hasn’t heard of it?
Talk about it a lot with your friends and at your LGS. I started off watching the podcast and got a couple other people into it, mostly people who wanted to play competitive EDH but the mtgo banned list wasn't well-received with. Just talk a lot about it, show them streams, hype up the positives. For me, the biggest selling points were: playing cards I couldn't otherwise play in 1v1 like Mystical Tutor or Demonic Tutor without having power, and playing lots of "pet cards" like Fleshwrither, or Shriekmaw, or Sudden Shock. Atlanta, GA now has a small 6-10 player community that meets monthly.
I run a 4 color prison / enchantment matters commander deck using Sidar Kondo of Jamuraa and Kraum, Ludevic's Opus as commanders. It doesn't really need the commanders to run so it would be simple to make it a Canadian Highlander deck.
ok there is a card I know of that forcibly puts a land into play under your opponent's control is yavimaya druid. It's a 3 mana 2/1 with forest walk that lets you search your library for a forest and put into play under target players control.
Christian Ramsay mono brown stax? How do you win? Do you just artifact ramp, stick a colorless pw and then play some artifact lock pieces and take over the game?
On the subject of terrible things to do to your opponent's lands, what do you guys think of the Mending of Dominaria/Fall of the Thran combo (using chapter 1 of Fall to nuke all lands, then chapter 3 of Mending to bring yours back)? It's expensive but not more than the other Prison enchantments, and comes with extra effects that trigger before and after the asymmetric land wipe. Plus both cards are cheap & easy to find.
I play a prison deck with a lands package and it does p good. If any of you want the list, lmk. I went 4-1 the other day and 3-2 a couple weeks ago. I have sadly never gone 5-0, but the deck is fun.
Serge, do you think we could get one of your prison decklists? I've been brewing one using Boros Prison in modern and the Oloro, Ageless Ascetic commander precon (cutting blue) as a base, but I can't get it to work... at all. Like, the matchups that I should win (Gruul Stompy, BUG Tempo w/ Creatures) I feel like I get stomped in.
Eric Choinière interesting. That is a change since I used it back in the day, then. Phasing etb decks were all the rage at my several lgs and city wide tourneys back then. Good to know, though
I still wish I could watch you guys play Canadian Highlander more often
Silver I think Liam used to stream Highlander once upon a time. He should start doing it again.
Jer and Liam glancing at each other behind Serge's oblivious back makes the bad jokes even funnier. (E.g. Flood of Recollection)
JerXLiam ship confirmed
The title startled me for a bit :p
I know, Was hopping for something else
"Well, we didn't want to say anything about why Alex was taking a break before his day in court..."
Jer's face when Serge said "Warpworld might actually not be bad" says it all
"It's good to be back, and it's good to talk about prison" - Serge XD This will forever be the funniest out of context quote I've ever heard.
So, Serge said priority 1 is "don't lose", which made me wanna ask if Lich's Mastery highlander playable
Tim Sargent well...

Combos with channel I guess
"I've always been curious what the Tobagosphere would be like." *_pffffft_*
Jeremy nor Liam made it to the desert bus episode of north 100.

As always I love this podcast. I look forward to it all week
Can we please get an episode about enchantress.
I run Karn, Silver Golem in Doran, The Siege Tower EDH. He is nuts, because they either take 4 or have to block an 8 power creature

I'm a simple guy, I see serge, I watch.
Better combo with Humility -> Caltrops
Where does Smokestacks and Tangle wire fit in? You guys touched on it briefly but what kind of prison deck wants those?
Silly Goose I'd imagine mono brown stax
Christian Ramsay mono brown stax? How do you win? Do you just artifact ramp, stick a colorless pw and then play some artifact lock pieces and take over the game?
We now we know why serge is always happy and bubbly because his a fun vampire he'll suck all the fun from your game
SnowToad There is a finite amount of fun in any game of magic, he just wants it all for himself
oh i hope they talk about the points list changes next week they're really fascinating
You have mentioned it the past and I have tried so hard to make it work, plz tell me more about lantern control.
Prison, just from how you guys are describing it, feels like slow Tempo.
14:47, what about Hate Bears or D&T? I remember one of the guys talking about Harsh Mentor one time.

I'm intrested
Liam is a delight.
Can we start a crowdfund campaign to have 12 hours of Liam shuffling cards ASMR style? I need that in my life.
38:14 I ship jer and liam with those glances and giggles

I was building a Stasis deck LITERALLY when this episode was released. This is a sign.
How many counterspells do you think I ought to play in a non-seinfeld control deck? I'm running 17, but I'm not sure if that's enough.
Does anyone know the intro song/theme for this? #curious
I am gonna build 9 land warp world prison now. Goodbye beautiful world
Has anyone considered a smokestack and assemble the legion combo?
Serge "Warp world might not be terrible" Yaeger
So would the new Teferi be good in these style decks? Or is trying to deck an opponent out with his ult too difficult in a 100 card format?
Next time replace the water with the alcohol of your choice! I would pay money to see that.
Serge, how do you feel about Skybind+Heliod+Serena's Sanctum as a win condition?
Go to w/u jail. Do not pass go, do not collect 200
#nolookpay8
Ways to make opponent put lands into play. Shimmer. Phase their lands out then back in.
mithrane Phasing wouldn't count as entering the battlefield or "being played" for the purposes of a card like Ankh.
Eric Choinière interesting. That is a change since I used it back in the day, then. Phasing etb decks were all the rage at my several lgs and city wide tourneys back then. Good to know, though
Yeah that changed last year I think
Thijs De S When they printed Teferi's Protection (or something like that), there was an update that included tokens not disappearing when phased out.
I want to see Liam shuffle cards.
I once locked the game down and beated my opponent down with imperial recruit, I changed the deck name to imperial beat down.
You could storm cauldron and Ankh?
Wonder how many people are going to forget that Alex is on break and come into the comments asking where Alex is.
WindyDelcarlo yes we know he's on break, but that dosnt answer the question. So Where is he???
WindyDelcarlo where’s Alex I have no idea where he is or why he isn’t on :/
Let's this be a warning to anyone who try prison 34:28
Was this Let's Talk About Prison or Serge: The Roast?
Prison: The Nice Guy Deck
I play prison on commander Starfeild of nyx + fall other the thran.
Caltrops > Powerstone Minefield
Whoa, okay, I did not expect this show to get all political all of a sudden.
69 views .... nice.
