Hey Matt, thanks for mentioning me 😄. I really looked forward to see this episode since I followed Julian already for a while. Al always, I enjoyed a lot! Kind Regards, Peter.
Peter, its a pleasure, many thanks for your kind donation. Glad you enjoyed the show, I hope to go and visit Julian. again after the breeding season to catch up with him and the birds
You are just coming out of your winter whereas we in Australia are just going into ours. What temperatures do you keep your birdroom at different times of the year? This is my first winter with my birds and whilst they are inside the house it still can get pretty cool overnight.
I don't have heating in the shed, although its fully lined and (in this set up) I've never had the waters freeze over the winter months. As long as there is a draught free enclosure and a supply of fresh water I wouldn't be overly concerned about the temperatures too much
Brilliant series thanks for the content, some beautiful birds. Being a finch breeder (with over a hundred Gouldian among other species) 12 years ago. I’ve now decided to slowly start up again buying 2 pairs of bengalese a couple of weeks ago that are now starting to nest. Watching your videos however, has got me thinking🤔🤔😉 I was wondering if it’s too late in the season ( as I suspect) to try find a pair of canary’s and try my first venture into breeding them this season, or would you recommend waiting till next season? I’m an absolute novice when it comes to canary’s and would love some advice, and tips for a total newcomer to this side of the hobby.
The Canary Room thanks for the reply, i will certainly be on the lookout for a decent pair as soon as the sales and shows re open, thanks for the brilliant videos. Keep safe👍
Nice video! Could you tell us which type/model of led lights is he using on top of the cages? It looks as a interesting alternative to led strips. Thanks
Is it possible to put in too much nesting material? Because I hatched out 3 on Wednesday and lost one today because it was under the other too. I think there isn’t enough space in the nest.
Yes it is, before you set the nest use a lightbulb to firm the bottom of the nest up. Once the hen has started laying remove all additional nesting material from the cage
Hello, My questions are: how long it will take canaries to lay egg in breeding? What is the normal time? What if the female Canaray set in nest for more than 15 days but still doesn’t lay egg?
It all depends on the hens, some will lay after 7-10 days. of being mated. Some will be mated and not lay at all. I'd leave her another few days then offer a bath an remove the nest and try again
Sorry to be annoying you. I put the rings on the chicks yesterday. Today they are 10 days old. I found a chick out of the nest 3 times and on the other side of the cage. Do you have any suggestions?
Another chick passed so I decided to take the hen out and leave the last one with the cock. He is feeding non stop and the chick is fantastic. Thank you 👍
Hi Sir how are you? Can you can you help with me? I have a black point in young Canary and I suffer too much. Is there a solution, sir? Please sir help me I am telling in Sultanate of Oman.
Sorry to hear that, its called Black spot and unfortunately is not uncommon. There is a product called Grog available from these people pantex-coutteel.com/ that I use and is very good at removing this problem

I'd be inclined to wait until the autumn, then you can overwinter them in your set up

Working on something at the moment - stay tuned!
Sorry to be annoying you. I put the rings on the chicks yesterday. Today they are 10 days old. I found a chick out of the nest 3 times and on the other side of the cage. Do you have any suggestions?
Could be that the hen is throwing the chick out of the nest, in which case there won't be a great deal you can do - is she still feeding the chick?
Another chick passed so I decided to take the hen out and leave the last one with the cock. He is feeding non stop and the chick is fantastic. Thank you 👍
