Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. My 7 year old daughter was so excited to help make the Babka with me. It was such a sweet mother/ daughter quality time activity. We are excited to try it and to have enough loaves to share with neighbors and friends. I’ve recently discovered your channel and just love your videos and the way you live your Jewish faith. Thank you for being brave enough to put yourself out there. I imagine it can’t be easy sometimes. Wish you luck here on RUclips!

My grandmother comes from Ukraine, raised in Paraquay, then Argentina, until finally moving to Canada - where I am. I always grew up with Babka - though I knew it by a different name. As I got older, got married and moved away, I craved the taste of this pastry and scoured the internet for months trying to find what it was ACTUALLY called 😅 Learning to history of this treat filled me with so much wonder. We aren't Jewish. My family is protestant. But it's amazing to me how a protestant family from Ukraine, raised in South America was still able to take this Jewish treat with them across the seas, through war, the generations, and languages. (albeit, under a different name.) And now here I am! Watching you! Even through all the generations, countries and languages, this food still finds its way back to us. Its very heartwarming and the next time I make this recipe for my husband and my family, I'll be thinking of you, your warmth and kindness, and wishing blessings to you and your family as well. ❤

So funny story... after making a few connections we have learned that we are actually Ashkenazi Jewish and it was kept a secret from my grandma's generation after the war. I actually have this video to thank a lot for discovering this family history, as without learning about Babka's jewish roots the frayed ends would probably never have come into place (my grandma and great-grandmother both speak/spoke hebrew, Yiddish and German, my grandma observes Sabbath, etc) I'm trying to find a community in my area now to help answer some questions and to learn more about this new discovery! So thank you for making your videos or we never would have learned about our history! ❤

PS for your fish and the cilantro ( you are not alone: many find that cilantro tastes like soap 😂) : you can add parsley in place of the cilantro aka you are good as gold to replace 1:1 you can also do A smaller amount of dill : that would also be good! I hope it helps! PPS I don’t know why but your cilantro 🌿 comment on the fish boulettes disappeared from the video comments section so I couldn’t answer it there! Hence me answering you here!

Your rolling is so even. Mine isn't always if I'm in a hurry or bored, and I can never get my meatballs round rolling them in my palm (always a pointy top & bottom) 🙄. I do manage pastry shaping better for holidays. I applaud your patience. Shana Tova.
Hello Sara, I am excited to make your babka. I see the recipe calls for yeast. Can you please give me some guidelines on when to let the dough rise and more or less how long each time? Does it rise before and after filling? I can't be sure from the instructions and have never made babka but have made bread and cinnamon rolls. Thanks
Hi Heather! Thank you so much for your kind message:) the 1st proof is about 1 hour to overnight depending on how strong and develop you want for the tast of the yeast and cinnamon to be aka once you mixx all the ingredients you will let it rise covered ( i like to use cling wrap or a plastic bag, it you do not have some, you can use a damp clean lint free kitchen towel) after the 1st proofing time let it rest at room temperature for 10 minutes if you had a 1st rise of 1h. but up to an hour after a 12h rise add you filling(s) shape it cover it and let it rise for another hour or so and you are done! PRO TIPS: 1-be careful to use STANDARD DRY YEAST not the fast rise yeast because the proofing time are different 2-make sure to proof your yeast like I explain in the video: add warm water, sugar and yeast mix and let stand for about 5-8 minutes covered until it bubbles, if it does not bubble: do not use this yeast, it is dead :( happy baking Heather:) And please let me know if you need help!

Oh Sarah! My babka didn’t turn out as pretty as yours. I bake every day for my family and often braid dough … I thought this would be easy. You make it so beautifully and it looks easy. I’m going to have to practice more. Thank you for sharing the recipe! I know one day I will make it more like yours…
Shana Tova ♥️
Hello there. Do you have an excellent vegan alternative recipe as these look amazing. Thank you 💖
Thank you!
I have to say: until yesterday- when i saw this video- i was sure my babka is the perfectest one :D
But todays morning i made it and added in the sirup apples and vanilla as you show here in your video... and wow!
Its soo good!
And - just when it was ready friends came spontanious arround and they also said its a great taste.
So big,big Toda

Please let me know if you have any questions or need any help: I am here for you❤️
Looking forward to reading you again soon maybe in tomorrow’s upload about my Friday routine as a full time working mom/md 😄?
Stay safe and blessed my friend ❤️
PS for your fish and the cilantro ( you are not alone: many find that cilantro tastes like soap 😂) : you can add parsley in place of the cilantro aka you are good as gold to replace 1:1 you can also do A smaller amount of dill : that would also be good!
I hope it helps!
PPS I don’t know why but your cilantro 🌿 comment on the fish boulettes disappeared from the video comments section so I couldn’t answer it there! Hence me answering you here!
I ended up making this and brought some to work. I cut one big roll into three, braided it, and put into a round pie dish. I also had 4 smaller loaves. They loved it. It was all gone in 2 days.
@@maxhr1749 that is so amazing ! I’m sure they would like more 😅❤️
@@frumitup I have volunteered to make babka for the JCC Klezmer Fest next year. Do you have any tips for making that many? We had a very large turnout this year as October 7th brought our community closer together and hopefully next year will be the same.

I am not much of a from scratch baker but your baking recipes are inspiring me to try some this summer when I have a little more free time and my grandbabies will be here during the day to join me. Cooking is such a great for children to learn/practice so many skills without them even realizing it. One question Sara-do you have a link (or know where I can look for one)to your bread machine. I am interested in getting one. One thing I would love to do on a regular basis is make homemade bread. I know it is a healthier option than store bought bread.
Thank you for the inspiration!
And this bread looks amazing! I know it tasted even better!
thank you so much Shawn!
my mixer is called a Bosch in the MUM series!
happy baking sweet Shawn!
Just love your recipes. They look so delicious.will definitely try it.

Awwww thank you Susan! I am delighted you liked the video!
You are completely right! This babka is really decadent with the simple syrup/ filling mixture!!
Please let me know if you have any questions my sweet Susan: I would love to help!

For me id use the challah dough keep it parvae
Shana Tova! 🍎🌹🥮
Amen Maggie: to your dad your family too❤️❤️❤️
"Shana tova!" I'm a little behind at seeing this video, but I'm going to try the added sauce method. Shalom!
Hello Alexandra!
Thank you for your warm wishes! In my book it is never too late to wish good things to each other!!
May this year be blessed and filled with love and fulfillment for you and your family❤️
Shana tova 🎉😋
thank you so much Aerolia:)
Your rolling is so even. Mine isn't always if I'm in a hurry or bored, and I can never get my meatballs round rolling them in my palm (always a pointy top & bottom) 🙄. I do manage pastry shaping better for holidays.
I applaud your patience.
Shana Tova.
Can you use coconut oiL in place of the margarine?
I never tried it but I am pretty sure it would be fine!
Thanks
Hi Heather!
Thank you so much for your kind message:)
the 1st proof is about 1 hour to overnight depending on how strong and develop you want for the tast of the yeast and cinnamon to be aka once you mixx all the ingredients you will let it rise covered ( i like to use cling wrap or a plastic bag, it you do not have some, you can use a damp clean lint free kitchen towel)
after the 1st proofing time let it rest at room temperature for 10 minutes if you had a 1st rise of 1h. but up to an hour after a 12h rise
add you filling(s)
shape it
cover it and let it rise for another hour or so
and you are done!
PRO TIPS:
1-be careful to use STANDARD DRY YEAST not the fast rise yeast because the proofing time are different
2-make sure to proof your yeast like I explain in the video: add warm water, sugar and yeast mix and let stand for about 5-8 minutes covered until it bubbles, if it does not bubble: do not use this yeast, it is dead :(
happy baking Heather:)
And please let me know if you need help!
@@frumitup Thank you! I am an experienced bread baker but needed guidance with my first babka!

@@heathermarchant1 i am so happy you are enjoying this babka! I cannot take any credo as you are a gifted baker from the get go!!
How did you find the syrup? Yay or nay?
Hello Sara...can you use traditional dairy or does it have to be plant based to achieve the same glorious results?
Shana Tova 🎉🎉🎉 I've been wanting to make some babka.
Now I think I will...now I've seen your "tips and tricks" on how to make it much better...that sugar syrup has to be the part I'm going to really enjoy...I like mine to be really sticky & soft..
I make huge mess 2hen I dig into babka...8m like an excited little child ( and with no manners ) thankfully I live alone so nobody else sees me making a pig of myself when babka is made and around here...lol
Hi Clayton thank you so much for your sweet comment you made me laugh and I enjoyed your comment so much !!!please let me know if you have any questions or need any help sending you virtual hugs

My dough always sticks to the counter or cutting board
@frum it up - What kind of mixer is that? I’ve never seen anything quite like that before.
Hello sis!
It’s a Bosch mixer with the mixing paddles/ dough hook at the bottom!
It’s a bit on the pricy side about 400$ but totally worth it IMO!
Let me know if you have more questions! I love to help you!
Have a great day!

This makes me happy right now because when I watch kosher baking they use margarine and I cringe because plant base butter is better and healthier for you. Thank you, this is so much better as an alternative. Your tutorials are informative as well as delightful to watch. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😄😃!
awwww thank you CC :)
xoxoxo
Shalom! Btw best babka recipe ever! Loving your tutorials!
@@Momzie808 thank you so much CC❤️❤️❤️
I made this recipe last Friday. It came out delicious! We enjoyed one for dessert on Shabbat and I froze the other two for Rosh Hashana. Have you ever frozen yours before? Also, I had a bunch of the cinnamon filling left over so I put it in the fridge. We are using it as a yummy spread on challah. Do you know how long this will keep?
