    I’m psyched for our preseason games ngl and don’t really understand the criticism. The trip to Japan and Sela Cup help us increase revenue which is essential for building our project in the FFP/PSR era, and I’m sure Howe understands that despite any complaints he might have

    Very disappointed we sold Anderson. I'm not convinced Willox will recover from his Achilles injury. And the fact we spoke to Liverpool will have shocked Gordon and shows that players don't have to provide commitment to NUFC. It's going to be really tough to compete with the toxic 6 so I worry we will struggle to finish 4th.

      Yeah valid points. Very much depends on who we sign I suppose. Our first XI with a couple of quality additions is capable of gibing everyone a game at home.

    We need to make a distinction between ambitious targets and reasonable expectations. Since we don't have our squad in place yet, we can't set either.

    Preseason for EH is a training opportunity. For him it starts with physical assessments and then gradually builds in intensity (that word again). I’m not sure what he sees as good preseason fixtures. Probably some behind closed doors games divided into four quarters. Anything that gets in the way of his preparation will be an annoyance for him. He understands the reality of the economics but I’m sure he’d rather the preparation aspect was prioritised and not the commercial side.

    I’m sure a lot of people would agree about not wanting to see Jacob Murphy starting on the right. But look at his stats. His stats are up there and quite comparable with other right sided players who you might consider an elite starter. His passes, heat maps and all the other science hippy stuff are just as good as anyones. Don’t underestimate Jacob Murphy. He has games where he has minimal impact. But so do all players.

      Not sure it’s the case mate. His pass completion % is horrendous so if you’re building a team to keep more to the ball, he’s not an option. He’s very effective statistically against teams lower in the league, but struggles to produce against top ten sides. We can’t start with him as first choice and expect to compete for a top 4 spot. Hope he improves and proves people like me wrong of course

    Do you guys not think your piling on unrealistic expectations onto the manager and the club right now?
    Last podcast you described 7th as "failure on the pitch"
    Now your setting the bar at champions league qualification.
    I am sorry but we have half the budget of the big 6 what planet are you guys on demanding that Newcastle challenge for that at this moment in time? Everyone knows that PSR is holding us back this has shades of Sor Bobby Robsons last season when past overachievment inflated some fans expectations so they thought 5th wasn't good enough

      How do you propose the club keeps its best players? Do you think Guimaraes and Isak signed to try and maybe get Europe in their 3rd seasons with the club? Interested in what you think the players have been pitched and why they signed for the club.

    • @davidwebster5946
      @davidwebster5946 3 месяца назад

      @@tfnufc we keep our best players the same way Spurs kept Harry Kane for a decade or Palace kept Zaha. We offer them huge contracts and hold them to it if they sign which we have already done with Bruno
      As for why they signed? Apart from Trippier that's fairly easy to answer. Every single player who has come here got a big pay rise. A fair few of them also were stepping up from a poorer league as well.
      What you definitely don't do is tell them they have to achieve unrealistic expectations then call them failures when they can't meet them. We gave the big 6 a 15 year head start under Ashley and aren't even 3 years into the process of catching up. This takes time and patience yet saying top 4 is the expectation now despite not having the financial backing in the transfer market is counterproductive. J have seen it with England and Newcastle under Sir Bobby what that kind of pressure can do and it very rarely helps

    • @tfnufc
      @tfnufc  3 месяца назад +1

      Thanks David. I’ll have to disagree with your assessment there because the players themselves have told us the vision they were sold. Bruno Guimaraes sat in a press conference after signing and said the aim was the win the champions league.
      You are right that clubs can keep players without keeping the promises made to them, but there aren’t many examples of it happening. Kane was a spurs fan and had been there his whole career. I doubt Alex Isak is going to make the same decision.
      You’re correct about Ashley and the financial disparity and the time it’ll take. Eddie Howe essentially pulled off miracles in his first two seasons.
      We’ll just have to disagree for now on expectations. I think the aim will be to contest a CL spot. Might not get it, but they need to qualify for Europe as a minimum. Otherwise the gap you reference that needs closed, is never going to close.

      I can see where you are coming from but I just don't agree
      I think behind the scenes there is an acceptance in the short to medium term that we will have to find untapped potential in the market, develop it and sell it on for a profit. That's why imo we agreed to insert that release clause in Bruno's contract. I don't think the situation will be any different for Isak, Gordon etc if the appropriate bid comes in. But unless selling one of said players provides a £100m+ boost to our coffers is on the cards I am struggling to see where the wiggle room for marque signings will be PSR wise. That hopefully will change if we continue to grow our revenue
      I fully believe that any fee would be reinvested back into the side but until our commercial revenue is on par with the big 6 I can't really see us having the power to consistently challenge top 4 especially if Man U/Chelsea stop shooting themselves in the foot. You just need to look at some of the business Man U are already doing and I can see them regaining their place above us when we are restricted to more modest transfer fees such as Kelly & Dominic Calvert Lewin
      I agree we need to be challenging for some form of Europe but in all fairness 7th would get you there 9/10 seasons based on the expanded qualifications spots we have nowadays. Having the side that finished 8th win the FA cup and every English teams flopping in Europe is something that could only happen to us
      Respect your response though 👏 very well put hopefully your right and I am wrong in terms of where we end up this season

    Biggest squad rebuild since the takeover this summer, incoming transfers will be tough to get us to improve first team. If all goes well then we should be able to qualify for Europa or better. The pre-season asks for tours is what all top clubs have to juggle, right or wrong.

    • @tfnufc
      @tfnufc  3 месяца назад +1

      Good points. Club need to be ruthless with transfers and it is glaringly obvious what positions we need to upgrade. Think the team we currently have is capable of competing, as shown past two years.

    Nothing negative here at all. PIF will want top 4 and the revenues that come with that. It’s purely business and two consecutive seasons of failing to achieve that, will in my view lead to a managerial change.

    • @andrewcharlton6080
      @andrewcharlton6080 3 месяца назад

      I’m not sure that’s true, PIF have constantly described Newcastle as a long term project, the board have talked about 5-10 years to grow the club organically and build a team that can consistently challenge for CL places and eventually the league.
      They understand that due to financial limitations there are 6 teams who can spend more than Newcastle and were already in a far better place than Newcastle when the takeover happened. I’d question their competence if they don’t recognise that until we can compete financially we are underdogs and can’t genuinely expect Newcastle to be top 4 every year.
      I think given some of the players we have and hopefully after some additions this summer that the board will want us to be challenging for top 5 every year, that doesn’t mean achieving top 5 though. I do think that they’ll expect Europe this year though.

    • @1702PK
      @1702PK 3 месяца назад

      @@andrewcharlton6080 It’s all about opinions Andrew. If we spend 100 million this window EH will have had 500 million to spend on new players. Given we are not in Europe next season, top 4 should be achievable and too many games and injuries will not be usable as mitigating factors. I think a top of class appointment such as Mitchell places more pressure on Howe and I expect next season to be a pivotal one for him.

    • @andrewcharlton6080
      @andrewcharlton6080 3 месяца назад +1

      @@1702PK And Spurs will have spent nearly as much but had a squad worth £650m to start with while Newcastles squad was only worth £300m when the takeover happened.
      It is about opinions but Newcastle is full of very knowledgable, sensible and competent people now who understand football. If there is anyone at board level who realistically believes Newcastle should be reaching top 4 every season I’d imagine they have that expectation challenged.
      We are underdogs, to get top 4 we need to either do more with fewer resources or we need at least 3 other teams who all have more money to spend than us to mess up and have a poor season.
