    I have the same off roam phone mounts. They're awesome. I just hate the big white logos, so I covered them with them with 1/32"-thick adhesive backed neoprene foam strips from a 2" wide roll. The neoprene foam provides a nice grippy texture that looks clean.

    Just ordered the android 13 version of this for my 13 Tacoma. Right now the truck has a Pioneer 7" double din in it that begun to act up on my last trip. Ive been looking for something modern that I could add that wouldn't take away from the simplistic interior look of my truck. I never liked the 7" pioneer double din because it just never looked right to me in the truck. I am a simple guy myself and like to keep things simple. Really all I need the unit for is android auto and to be able run GPS and Spotify. Yes I know its an expensive unit just for that, but most importantly to me is that it fits the look of my interior. The craziest part about it is I rarely even drive my 13 Tacoma anymore. My daily driver is now my 22 Tacoma. I only drive the 13 when Im hooking up the bass boat and yanking it down the road for a fishing trip, but when I do drive it I need everything to work. My only concern with the unit is the lack of a subwoofer out, but Im sure I can use something like an AudioControl LC2i for the subwoofer. I guess Ill see how it goes when I get the unit.

    I have this 2nd gen unit in a 2014 now for over a year. Absolutely love it besides the occasional AC blast glitch that you seem to have cured. Could you plz do a small tutorial on how to go about getting cellular hooked up to the head unit? I have the sim adapters and know where the sim slot is, but Verizon was confused when I went in to get cellular for my truck. And once in, where in the settings do you get it all up and running?

    • @alpinetactics
      @alpinetactics  Год назад +1

      I just went to Verizon and got a data only SIM card. You can bring your adapter with you to show them. Then set up is simple as plugging it in. I don’t think I really needed to do anything to set it up just ensure you have your antennas plugged in and the adapter plugged in. Maybe there was something I had to do in setting but I honestly don’t remember at this point. It was pretty simple I think.

    • @alpinetactics

      Good question I’ll have to check and see if you can turn the display completely off on this one. The last version had a way to do that on the Home Screen but this doesn’t. Do you still have issues when you drive past the cell tower? If so, did you ever figure it out? If not, I may have the answer.
    I experienced issues with my Android every time I reached a particular stretch of highway. It turns out that every time I reached this particular point of my drive, my phone was switching from 4G to 5G. When this happens, it's as if my phone would go through some kind of soft reset or something and all running apps would stop working for a short time.
    Apparently, this is a known issue with Verizon. Might be an issue across all carriers for all I know.
    After some research, I found that it is possible to avoid this problem by forcing your phone to stay specifically on the 4G network. Problem is, Verizon has disabled the ability to do this on most, if not all, of the phones on their network.
    Anyways, great review. Thank you for such in depth and detailed information. This unit looks incredible.

    Great review and so much so I decided to purchase the AUCAR unit for my 2013 Tacoma. I have a couple general questions related to installation. I don't know if there is any advantage in reusing the existing shark fin GPS Antenna? Opinion? Also, they shipped the unit with a dual "RDS" antenna, best I can tell it is a system they use more in Australia, did you get those as well and did you install them? and lastly any thoughts on your camera installs (front, existing rear backup camera). As I realize you're not an installer I'm asking only for general opinion and suggestions.

      I don’t have any personal experience with the mirror display cams. Mine was originally a headunit display so everything was right there and worked fine. I would find out what that rear view cam wiring set up is like, could be as simple as running an extension or adapter down the a pillar to the head unit or could be more complicated 🤷‍♂️. If you find out let us know just in case someone else has the same issue in the future.

      1. Reverse camera does not display onto the AUCAR if you have it displayed stock on the rear view mirror. I confirmed it with AUCAR “engineers”. So you would have to install aftermarket cameras including wiring.
      2. USB is no longer usable. I always preferred this over wireless for dependable connection and charging at the same time.
      3. The recirculating feature becomes inoperable if the AC is off. Meaning if you don’t want any outside air coming in, you have to have the AC on.
      To the potential buyers out there, this is basically an Android tablet. If all you want is CarPlay (which is all I want), I would not recommend this. There are cheaper options out there.

    Hey man, love your videos.
    I was wondering if your stock USB (usb/aux) port still work, and if it charges your phone.
    I bought a cheap $200 aftermarket radio, and the USB it comes with just doesn't produce enough power to charge my phone.
    Sorry for the rant.. I guess here's my questions:
    1. Does the head unit connect to your stock usb port below the screen?
    2. Does it produce enough power to charge your phone ?
    Thanks my dude !

    • @alpinetactics
      @alpinetactics  Год назад +1

      It does come with adapter that lets you connect the head unit to that outlook. It does work and I’m sure it would charge the phone just fine but I have had some 12v DC outlets that I have always used so I’m not sure I have ever used that outlet to charge. I have used that outlet to install firmware updates to the head-unit though so I’m sure it would work fine.
