"Litte Jake Lloyd as Anakin Skywalker steals the show" "Jake Lloyd's spectacular performance was also seen by Rosie O'Donnell" "It was unbelievably brilliant"
Y'know what? I liked the movie when it came out and I still like the new trilogy. They are highly enjoyable films. Too bad they are overshadowed by the masterpieces known now as the original trilogy. What killed the new films for most people was the hype, the high expectations. I am sick and tired of hearing people say these films suck. In the end it's all about opinion, and we all know arguing on the internet never gets anyone anywhere. I just had to get this off my chest after seeing this vid.
Look I know that more serious fans have a (let's be nice) mixed reaction towards the film, but people genuinely forget how many casual audiences were perfectly satisfied with what it offered.
I'm having more nostalgia watching this Access Hollywood thing than I do if I try and watch the actual prequel movies. I wish you had the episode of Access Hollywood where they showed the first trailer.
I believe that casuals and older mature people loved the movie as this video is PROOF of. I also believe that it's the fans who just feel insecure about parts of the PT. I also believe that Lucas is a con man and businessman firstly but I do believe that he likes sw sincerely.
@@TrolliNaattori Late to reply but yeah I loved it, it's interesting to look back on it in the wake of Rogue One, Last Jedi, and Solo. I think Force Awakens is the most fun to just watch, that being said I do feel the similarities to New Hope were a bit too much (Starkiller is completely unessential to the plot unlike the Death Star so you easily could've removed it and not nearly as much criticism would've existed). I did enjoy Last Jedi more as I appreciated what it added to the lore. Super excited for The Rise of Skywalker!
Wow, it's almost painful seeing people gush over the movie. But that's how it was when it first came out--all they hype had people going into it with rose-colored glasses and they ended up thinking it was the most amazing thing ever put on film ... for awhile. Then once they hype died down, so did the praise. Interesting how that works sometimes. I remember a lot of severely-hyped movies having a similar reaction (remember Independence Day?)
Cyborcat I think a Star Wars film needs to be watched multiple times before you can truly evaluate it and that’s what happened back in May 1999. It’s because of expectations that we all get caught up in the movie and really can’t put it in perspective like an original movie you walk in with no context. I admit to liking The Phantom Menace opening night but after repeat viewings you start to see the flaws. I think the problem in the internet era is the extreme of ‘it’s the greatest movie’ or ‘it’s the worst movie’ opinions. It’s because everyone wants to be heard, where in the old days a movie was more personal to people and they didn’t need their opinion reaffirmed.
Imagine watching this in 1999, waiting for the movie to come out. You'd think Jesus himself would pop out of the screen. At the end of the day of course it was dissapointing. The media hype was INSANE. It's not as bad as the bitter "george raped my childhood" people make it out to be. It's a fun MOVIE. For cripes sakes, just a movie.
@JohnnyGameGuy - I was you back in the 90s eagerly anticipating the arrival of the Star Wars prequels. And i'll tell ya - I was stoked when I finally got to see TPM just days before everyone else. But after when the hype settled I started comparing the prequel to the original trilogy. I couldn't help but to notice how annoying Jar Jar Binks was and I wanted more scenes with Darth Maul like Lord Vader in A New Hope. TPM wasn't totally bad - it did have its moments like the Pod Race scene.
I think people wanted to like it because its starwars, and a lot of them where in denial. People who like the phantom menace have bad taste in storytelling or don't care about storytelling. I mean the movie has no protagonist, and most of the plot is spoken through awfully written dialouge, its also shot like a cheap telenovela, wide shot, insert, insert, wide shot. They film telenovelas like that to save time and money, I guess George wanted to go really fast and intense this time. Joking aside I do respect Lucas for producing and creating the original trilogy, Indiana Jones and many other classics from the 80s. He was a visionary, but today he is a businessman first and he made a good decision to sell the starwars franchise to Disney, now that the franchise is in capable hands again I'm looking forward to it.
+Betongbarnet As one who saw it, I can tell you we were in denial. I knew something was wrong even while watching it, that it didn't "feel" like Star Wars. I remember laying in bed thinking about it that night and just feeling weird, like "that was it?" I only saw it twice in theaters, but it took me much longer to admit to myself that it sucked. It was my religion, you know?
I was not a SW fan when I first saw TPM and I was indifferent to it. I think the hype and expectations was way too crazy. I mean, for some people like my brother, it was more than a decade of high expectations. No wonder he was disappointed. However, my little nephew loved it and still does to this day. Weird.
About a day, maybe. A week or better for the ones who noticed only the visuals. I think the hype leading up to Episode I's release was the best part of the movie. :P
My god, hearing those Access Hollywood shills, I mean EMPLOYEES, gush over The Phantom Menace is embarrassing and shameless. Jake Lloyd steals the show??? Holy shit, there goes the last shred of credibility of this news piece. Haha!
I went to every opening night, queued up, saying to myself of its going to get better... (played the shit out of xwing & Tie fighter) Plinkett's review (red letter media) of Phantom Menace is so much better entertainment.
Yes, it's subjective. If you like a well-written story with good performances by actors, the Star Wars prequels aren't for you. But if you don't give a shit about those two things, then hey, Star Wars I-III should be right up your alley.
What's inevitably depressing about it all is despite being a bad movie it was successful box office hit.. This is the prime example of a bad movie making big bucks.. So while we feel raped George and everyone involved with the production continue doing what Thier best at.. Making 2 more piss awful sequels episode 2 & 3..
I'm a big fan of the movie, but this was very cringe worthy, because they were in for a big disappointment for those who loved the other ones. everyone expecting it to be amazing. And I agree with Jake Lloyd's "spectacular" performance and everything else they said to praise the film was fake and total disbelief. you can even tell at 2:18 and 2:41 that George wasn't happy about it.
oh my god this is telling us propaganda for a movie that ruined eveything about the original trilogy, natalie portman sounded as boring as a sloth moving jake lloyds performance absolutely destroyed his career and why didnt they mention that utterly annoying cji crap called jar jar binks

The sequel Trilogy is a complete DUMPSTER FIRE
Look I know that more serious fans have a (let's be nice) mixed reaction towards the film, but people genuinely forget how many casual audiences were perfectly satisfied with what it offered.
Prequels are 100 percent better than the Disney sequels!
The days before it became cool to bash the prequels....*sigh* I miss these days, simply because it was pre-Internet shouting match.
Still better than Last Jedi or Rise of Skywalker.
Why? You asked for it.
I'm having more nostalgia watching this Access Hollywood thing than I do if I try and watch the actual prequel movies.

14 days until Force Awakens!
