Great video Mazzy, keep up the great work! Last April, my wife and I went on a cruise (out of Miami) up the Amazon. We had a few days at sea so I popped into the ship library and found Dylan's book! I read about he songs that I knew and loved it so much that I bought my own copy when I got back to the UK. Following your prompting, I have now started listening to all the tracks on Spotify (one by one) followed by listening to the chapter from Dylan's book on Audible. Absolutely wonderful. Thank you so much for prompting me.
Really hitting it out of the park. Dylan’s speaking style was right on the money. Just went to a meeting on Zoom hosted by a Rabbi who had written his own book on Bob as a prophet and was interviewing a visiting Italian author who has a new book on Bob
I’ve had the Dylan audio book added for a while but haven’t had the head space to jump in. From your commentary it sounds like a more considered expansion of the utterly brilliant Theme Time Radio. I’ve heard that 100+ hours at least 3 times when my work afforded more car time. It was a beautiful thing. Oh, and kudos on the Disney Land song. Hadn’t heard that in ages
I’m listening to every tune in Dylan’s book then reading his comments on the song … may take me a while to finish but it’s an amazing read. So far I’m up to Ball of Confusion.
Hi from New Zealand. I visited San Francisco in 1987. Watching this brought back memories for me. The wonderful Golden Gate Bridge that I traveled across. The Haight Ashbury District where I saw Chris Issak in concert at a venue called I - Beam . Good record store there. From Carl.
I always love seeing Originals. Coleman and I used to go there often to browse (and get records cleaned in their fancy machines). And they always have cool records spinning. That oud sounded really cool.
Damn, didn't expect you'd pull into the town where I live, hang at the Lumberyard for a spell, like I do, spin through the Fillmore, where I just created a walking tour, then visit Vesuvio, my headquarters, and end at City Lights, originated by my old friend, Lawrence. I think you're me! Good music, editing, spirit, thanks.
Aloha Mazzy, these little record shops are awesome! That MJQ is a great record, even the record album behind it, Paul Horn's "Something Blue" which is one of my favorite mellow Paul Horn record albums, lot a Vibraphone by Emil Richards on it also. Looking forward to watching 👀 all of your adventures in San Francisco. Mahalo Ed
Onya Mazzy! Those of us who have only heard of the Fillmore on record through our lives from far away countries, get to see it live through your travels. And to see John Lee Hooker’s Boom Boom Club? Man, I’m off to buy my flight and head over to check it myself. Thanks for sharing
In my opinion the 2 greatest live concerts of the Rock era were recorded at Winterland in SF just a few months apart ! 1: Frampton Comes Alive (part Winterland ) and 2: The Last Waltz -;The Band's phenomenal swansong concert ! Its quite incredible that both took place at the same venue just a short time in between gigs ? Although they tore Winterland Arena down a few short years later , its legacy shall remain forever more .
Great video Mazzy. It looks like a lovely drive into SF. I've never been, but its definitely a city I'd like to visit someday. The Dylan audio-book sounds well worth checking it out. There is a wonderful line in a Tom Waits song [San Diego Serenade] that goes... 'I never saw my hometown until I stayed away too long'. Are there aspects of SF that you didn't notice until you returned after a long spell away? Cheers - D
Although I haven't watched all your videos over the years I must have seen the majority and there is something I'm curious about which I don't recollect you ever having mentioned; and of course you might simply not have wanted to share. But given your obvious continuing love and affinity with San Francisco, I wonder what originally prompted the move to Seattle? As a Brit Dead Head who has never been to either, you can guess which most attracts me!
Always love these record store tour videos. On your way back to Seattle, Biscuits and Vinyl in Talent, OR (southern outskirts of Medford) is worth a stop. Small shop but they've had a very nice selection when I've stopped in.
Ohh Mazzy; the bookshop…I’d be lost in there…well tell the truth, I’d be lost in San Fransisco! Back in the late 60’s and early 70’s it meant something like Xanadu or the supposed secret city in the Himalaya’s… the holy grail for us of the UK counter culture :-) but that bookshop…I’d be in there for hours… my old cottage , built about 50 years after the Mayflower sailed to America, is just full of books..but there are so may in that shop of yours and all I got were glimpses! So envious Like the ‘painted ladies’ by the way; very Edwardian and southern England :-) Tony
I dropped by Original Vinyl last year on a trip from Ireland. Lovely store with a great jazz and soul LP selection. Found some nice soul 45s there. Friendly and helpful staff too. I'd also recommend Discodelic on 24th Street, Mission. Great for Latin and ska/reggae.
What an afternoon I’m having… Circulating a batch of records in my Humminguru that I purchased from my local and mighty record shop (unabashed shout out to Wah Wah Records… and congrats to Alan on his 10th anniversary of starting the business)…. While riding shotgun with Mazzy on one of his marvellous LA road trips. I dunno if the stars will be out tonight… but sometimes they align with regardless perfection.
I really miss going to Aquarius records on valencia in the mission and tower records in the castro. There was also streetlight records on 24th and another one on market in the castro. Open mind music on divasadero. Green Apple books had an annex which a decent amount of vinyl on clement. There used to be a store called rough trade records (dont think it had any relation to the label back then) on haight and at one point there was even a Reckless records for a couple of years.
I hate to be pedantic but.... "Obtuse" usually means stupid or slow-witted. I assume Mazzy meant to say either 'abstruse' or 'oblique'. Although I find Dylan's flirtation with misogyny in the "Witch Woman" chapter to be a but obtuse. Great video, Mazzy. Have a good time.
I have traveled to every state but Alaska but my journey’s have never taken me to SF. I watch a lot of travel videos because I have that love of exploration ( kind of like my musical tastes). I enjoyed seeing sites of the city. Boom Boom Club sounded great. Enjoyed the stores, after over a month in Denver I have yet to hit a record store! I will someday. Enjoyed the tour and the stores Mazzy.
You spotted the glich in this manufactured virtual road trip. Mazz hasn't left the house, & other ppl are in on this conspiracy. ' *Capricorn One* ' take 2.
Where have all the bookstores gone long time passing? Where have all the bookstores gone long time ago? Where have all the bookstores gone, gone to Amazon everyone, long time ago. Well at least I got my University of California inspired Latin: An Intensive Course.
Thanks for pointing that out. I could tell that the thousands of trucks next to him had to take significant evasive maneuvers to mitigate the menace created by Mazzy's unconventional driving habits.
3:23 Jack Kerouac comes from the same place as Bette Davis. Which is as wobbly combination as Kerouac & his mother. So: you're on a BOOK roll - - a good time for my video request. Nobody talks. No action but the turning of a page, maybe sips of coffee. Absolutely nothing else is going on for a full 5 minutes. Can you hold your nerve that long? It's important that there's no action, so what is conveyed is everybody so *absorbed in their books* that all other action is redundant. No Hello, no Goodbye in the vid, & no music, stupid, just 3 or 4 folks quietly reading books for a full 5 minutes. Fade out. That's my one & only video request. I've been sticking around here for 4 years waiting for the right moment. This is it. There's no chance of Harry getting organised to do this at his deck party: it's hard enough to get Harry to review a book. So it's down to *the Norman Maslov Public Library* to make this important cultural statement. All Books Matter!
More record shop and bookstore tours around SFO please! So love this video! Thank you, Mazzy!
Agree 100 percent!!!
Jack Kerouac was from Lowell MA rundown industrial town with a lots of mills, but having an artsy community as well
Old Steve Miller intro....fantastic Brave New World
Very well done and much appreciated!
RIP San Francisco. Go Giants!

Sounds like Courtney Barnett singing as you enter SF. Sounds good. Thanks for the take along!
Yes, I love her.

Just saw Steve Miller Band at Berkeley Greek, a few months back....still going strong! Great Vid Mazzy!
I lived in SF at Filbert St. in 2006/2007. Beautiful town and surroundings. This brings back my memories.

Yeah what’s better than a road trip video ?
A sequel road trip video 🎉
Great visuals, great music.
I’m watching you walk through a ‘kin book store and it’s still entertaining!
Hi Mazzy
your roadtrip videos are so Scenic ,informative and fun! Thumbs up! Trish

Well that was fun!!
I am guessing you went/are headed for the Caffe Trieste?
☕️
That record store is right near the Trieste, right?
@@written12 oh...well, the record store (on Fillmore and Hayes?) is actually in another neighborhood and it's still relatively close.... 🚌 🚶♂️

Duh… soz Mazzy. ❤
Thanks!
Mazzy, I purpose you do fewer panel live streams and more of these mini-movie road trips style videos. Good stuff. 😉👍
Love the Courtney Barrnet.
Great Stuff, there's nothing like armchair travelling!
Awesome 🎉
Thank you! Kimbo 🥃
I lived in SF in the 90's and use to frequent Streetlight Records in Noe Valley...sadly, they are no more. ☹
Love these videos Mazzy. Concerning RSD - are you going to get the R Crumb record?

Yeah I know all those stores. Stores some and go. Rough Trade was connected to the UK and they has a store in 6 th and Brannon a few years too.
A fun trip !!
Nice. Steve Miller👍 Wat was the second song?
City Looks Pretty by Courtney Barnett
This is the stuff
You picked up that universe record, and put it back.

looks like Sweden
The first time I visited the city in 1998, I saw a homeless man shitting in the street. Glad to know things don't change. lol
Actually, they’ve changed. That sight is much more common.
An amazing city that deserves better.
Mill Valley has a very good record store though it’s not right in town.

Why does the Vesuvio sign say "Portland Oregon" ?
It's a long and always quote: "we are itching to get away from Portland Oregon" is what I recall.

Yes
Didn't you ever learn not to hang in the left lane while on the highway. Truckers hate drivers like that.
Thanks for pointing that out. I could tell that the thousands of trucks next to him had to take significant evasive maneuvers to mitigate the menace created by Mazzy's unconventional driving habits.
The explanation easily clarifies this: Mazz learned to drive at *the Annie Hall School of Motoring* in Chippewa Falls.
