I do this full time, theres nothing Ive seen in the pictures here that even remotely comes close to 50k in grading. You could send that whole binder in at 13.99 a card to PSA except the charizards they would shoot up to 18 bucks grading charges unless some of them hit 9+. Id hope theres a better binder somewhere else that they didnt show, because it looks like just a base set binder and the backs of the cards certainly didnt look like gem mint cards. 125k was a MONSTER offer the dude should have jumped on that, unless theres an absolute ton of singles they didnt show. Would love to see the full collection pictured if someone has a link?
Agree with this. Not a clue how anyone got to $500k. The two sealed base set booster boxes are worth total $30k. Three base set 2 boxes are worth $20k (one has been opened). First edition fossil and jungles boxes total $30k. I'll be generous and assume the theme decks total to $10k. Cards are all unlimited, not a single shadowless or first edition that I could find. Let's assume graded, that's all worth $80k (Zards would be bulk of that assuming PSA 9 or 10). Total at retail pricing would be $170k. No clue how they got to $500-600k, unless there's stuff missing here.
Great episode- Thanks Ty! Now the seller mentally won’t be able to accept an offer for less than $125K, even if the appraised value is much less than $550K…

Yeah big Pokémon collector here 125k was a great offer if not too high. Grading a 9 or 10 from raw cards that were in a storage unit for vintage that isn’t 1st Ed is a huge risk, plus grading fees. I probably didn’t see it all but was pretty surprised still.
There is no way the Pokemon collection is over $500,000. I have been in the Pokemon trading cards business since 1996 starting with Japanese Pokemon. Best case scenario, it is worth around $100,00. The offer of $125,000 is generous. The buyer should take the money and run.
I hate the upcharge thing. Please tell me why BGS doesn't do it, but PSA insists on charging you more just to give it a better grade. It's still being authenticated and slabbed. Nothing about the upcharges makes any remote sense and that is why I never grade with PSA!!! EVER!.
One reason is that BGS doesn't guarantee any of the cards they grade. If a card turns out to be fake in a BGS slab that you bought, they won't do anything 99% of the time. I'm not saying it is worthy of the full upcharge from PSA but just that PSA has to put money away for cases when fake cards slip through. An upcharge would be annoying for PC cards, but an upcharge on a non-PC card would mean that it has graded higher than you expected and that you should net higher profits than if you graded with BGS, factoring in all fees.

All the big buyers have completed collections already. $125k for that collection was generous. The pokemon market is shrinking, how many charizards does one person need
Everyone will want to buy it if the price is right. 125 k was a fair offer but would have to see the singles in person because the grades everything. 9's and 10's are extremely rare when it comes to vintage Pokemon as initially it was a kids game and kids did not worry so much about condition so not much really old Pokemon in like new condition. Nine times out of ten pack fresh Pokemon cards will grade a 9 or a 10. So if the singles are in pack fresh condition there very well could be well over 125k in value but if they are mostly 7's and 8's then they are nothing too special and 125k would seem really fair.
Great collection when he said 550k I thought it was for the whole building not just the pocket mon. I don’t know nothing about that . Great episode I wanted him to counter and said 175k and then meet in the middle at 150k . Please do an update video when it all sales at the end thank you.
Great episode. Great offer. You would be crazy to spend more than 160 with the risk and effort all on the buyer. 300-500k max value, so you gotta start at 300 to account for risk, luck, and effort. Subtract 50-75 on grading is 225-250. Then 60-70% is more than you can expect to get when selling to a reseller. That like 135-175k. That was in my head as fast I can type, so do not quote me on it. If I was a gambling and hustling man, I would go up to 160.
Great video and amazing Pokemon collection. Just want to say that Japanese cards are worth less than their English counterparts. Vintage Japanese holo cards were printed more and in some sets were even guaranteed every pack.
I've really enjoyed Ben on these episodes! I woulda taken the $125K and ran...what is the old saying about a bird in the hand? haha I saw a little footage of comic books...what was the deal with those?
I’m not a Pokémon expert, but the guy should have taken the $125K offer. He has basically nothing in them… so he just won a mini lottery. Take that cash and be happy
Doesn’t make any sense at all. So you open a 200$ hobby box pull a card worth 10k. Do you sell it for a 2k bc the box only cost 200. No. You try to maximize what you got. Sell it for what it’s worth. This goes for everything. You bought. House in 1980 for 100k. It’s worth 2 million today. Do you sell for 1 million. No. You sell at market or as close to Market value as possible
Ya the guy just needs to be patient and he'll maximize his sale on the stuff. Sure 125k sounds great.....but so does 200k.....250k. I think it's a good thing he went with the auction
Don't let this happen to your collections. Imagine being such an avid collector, over the years you put your time (money) and effort into collating such a collection for it to be lost inside a storage unit and sold for pennies on the dollar.
The person that lost that storage unit, I assumed must have either became ill or passed away. No way he left all that and just stopped paying rent….he could sell one box of cards to pay the rent for years. I am sure he would have wanted his family to benefit from his collection too….I sure hope these folks do the right thing and share this massive windfall with that man’s family. I wish the storage unit places would call people’s family before they auctioned off their stuff…it’s really sad.
To some degree I agree but what happens if they open that locker and there is nothing but cat litter inside. Who is helping the buyer get his $400 back.
400k is a tough number to reach. I mean the market before maybe, but now vintage just isn't worth as much. Great find though. I would love to just see it really.
He’s set on the 500k. What if you offered 125k then split 50/50 anything over double your investment? Basically once you get 250k in value, he gets 50% of anything over that… He wouldn’t feel like he’s leaving 375k on table if it turned out to really be worth 500-600k. And you’re not risking a fortune.
Pokemon Card's are really where it's at... I love sport card's, myself and i collect. But, you really have a better return on the dollar's, with pokemon card's.... That's a fact. Especially when all the kid's are collecting, grow up and get job's.... 🤔 Cha-Ching 💰💰 🤑 Great video ❤❤❤ GOD bless y'all and your's 🙏💓
These cards are HARD to get 9s and 10s thats why 9s and 10s are so valuable What I would do if I was him. Pick out the most valuable nicest looking ones grade them if they come out highly graded sell them use that money and grade others and just gauge where you are . If they are coming back 10s continue grading if you’re getting 7s just stop and sell raw Make a deal with an auction house. No offense to chasing cardboard, but if you don’t need the money and auction houses, probably going to maximize your profit
what i thought as-well, send like 10 of the best cards to grading to get a feeling then the seller will get a better understand of where he his at and what to expect.
I mean it’s easy, comp the boxes and make an offer, leave the singles for him to deal with, maybe buy just the charizards and blastoises raw off recent comps
Disappointed that he didn’t go for the $125k, but he had a goofball chirping in his ear, telling him it was worth $550k. What he didn’t tell him was the fact that it’s worth that kind of value if was already graded (high), and deemed all authentic. People like this get the big frying pan eyes 👀 when they hear what it could be worth, not having any knowledge in this market. He literally had a few hundred invested, and could have turned into $125k, with ZERO risk, and that was just for the few boxes of Pokémon Cards. Even if he countered with a couple hundred thousand, then maybe $150k might have got it, but he had that HALF MILLION number stuck in his head from that other dummy.
Grading isn't cheap and vintage cards don't grade as well as modern. Hopefully the guy does well but seems like he isn't aware of how much more money he would need to invest just to maybe see those numbers he is thinking its worth. Super cool episode though.
@@CHASINGCARDBOARD when he said 400-500k I nearly spit my drink out. My estimate would be pretty close to what you’ve heard from the big dogs. Now for grading those singles. You want to look for print lines in the holos, and scratches. Those can take the card down a grade alone in and of itself. Along with what you said of the other aspects of the condition of the cards, whitening on the back and front of the cards. Centering of the cards is important too but back then the centering was almost always very good. A lot of Pokémon buyers are in fact binder collectors/ set collectors and do not want graded cards. Sure you can make more if they grade well, but you can get a better turn around selling them raw. Definitely an awesome find!
Not a clue how anyone got to $500k. The two sealed base set booster boxes are worth total $30k. Three base set 2 boxes are worth $20k (one has been opened). In my opinon 125k is way too much of a risk ! He will probably never get anywhere near that price point. Everything has to be in flawless condition gem mint , second it is going to take along time to try to get 500k.
i didnt see any incredibly valuable singles, just base set unlimited stuff. Sure its worth grading, but hes gonna be sad when he gets 100k for everything which is most likely. Theres like 20k in singles that I can see. Gold stars, 1st editions in pristine condition, etc would bring the value up a LOT more but didnt see it.
Having recently spent time researching Pokemon cards, due to a charity store pick-up of cards, I'll be very happy if I NEVER see another Pokemon card for the rest of my life! I knew, given the condition, that my find was going to be sub $100 (and I ended up selling them for half that), but the amount of variations and information you need to know is INSANE! Went to the card shop to sell them, and they wouldn't even make me an offer. After that point I had a point to prove to myself. Glad they're gone!!! So... if I was the seller - who has very little into the lot - I'd have bitten your hand off with your offer, and moved on to something that I liked dealing with. It can all get very overwhelming, very quickly - esp. for people with zero interest in Pokemon.
Who carefully stores away tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of collectibles in a storage unit but then neglects to pay the $200/month in rent?
Tons of people actually. How about the young couple who move and put there stuff in storage unit. How about the family that moves to a smaller place and don't have enough room for all of there stuff. How about military families. How about bf/gf relationships where a person splits up or goes to jail and the other person doesn't pay
@@JohnDoeDeadhead420 We're talking about tens of thousands of dollars of carefully curated collectibles here - not some old furniture and boxes full of kitchenware. Of course, the circumstances you described lead to plenty of units fleeing forfeited. But if you have a hundred thousand dollars worth of valuables IN a storage unit, you generally don't stop paying the $200/month to keep the unit current unless something tragic - dying a solitary soul, for instance - occurs.
I would be afraid to show my place with all those valuable collectibles. A lot of thieves out there and it only takes one to break in & ruin your life.
None of that stuff was first edition or “first prints” that I saw. And not sure who said that most Japanese are worth more than English versions, the majority of cards are worth more as English. There are a few exceptions though with cards having different art on Japanese and English versions like Sabrina’s gengar. All being said that is one hell of a score, now to do the work to sell it. Most storage buyers I know don’t want to find end buyers they want to find someone to take it all.

@@E-Pro73oh it's definitely worth more than 125K. How much more is the question.
POKEMON GRIAL 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥FOUND
Should have taken the 125k
Worth no where near 400-500K
Your cardboard team made a VERY strong offer, for me too much risk
400k is a tough number to reach. I mean the market before maybe, but now vintage just isn't worth as much.
Great find though. I would love to just see it really.
He’s set on the 500k. What if you offered 125k then split 50/50 anything over double your investment? Basically once you get 250k in value, he gets 50% of anything over that…
He wouldn’t feel like he’s leaving 375k on table if it turned out to really be worth 500-600k. And you’re not risking a fortune.
hopefully those boxes arent full of G.I Joe packs.
Who else gets exited when they see a new Chasing Cardboard episode 🙋♂️
Pokemon Card's are really where it's at...
I love sport card's, myself and i collect.
But, you really have a better return on the dollar's, with pokemon card's.... That's a fact.
Especially when all the kid's are collecting, grow up and get job's.... 🤔
Cha-Ching 💰💰 🤑
Great video ❤❤❤
GOD bless y'all and your's 🙏💓
I would contact a Auction House to sell the LV suitcase
BIg up Danny Phantump! Top guy to go to.
Yeah we love Danny!
These cards are HARD to get 9s and 10s thats why 9s and 10s are so valuable
What I would do if I was him. Pick out the most valuable nicest looking ones grade them if they come out highly graded sell them use that money and grade others and just gauge where you are . If they are coming back 10s continue grading if you’re getting 7s just stop and sell raw
Make a deal with an auction house. No offense to chasing cardboard, but if you don’t need the money and auction houses, probably going to maximize your profit
That's exactly the way to do it. Pick out the best looking ones for grading & go from there.
what i thought as-well, send like 10 of the best cards to grading to get a feeling then the seller will get a better understand of where he his at and what to expect.
I think the value of the Pokemon are in between what he has it valued and what your guys have it valued at. It’s definitely not as much as they think.
Until its graded the buyer is the only one assuming the risk when purchading ungraded.
Grading isn't cheap and vintage cards don't grade as well as modern. Hopefully the guy does well but seems like he isn't aware of how much more money he would need to invest just to maybe see those numbers he is thinking its worth. Super cool episode though.
We talked to him about the options of who to grade with and who would have crazy up charges.
Pokemon, my forte!!! lets go!!!
Awesome! Whats your ballpark estimate?
No clue how they got to $500-600k, unless there's stuff off camera.
Thanks for watching! You saw what we saw.
50k in grading? Dude must have a millions worth there
In my opinon 125k is way too much of a risk ! He will probably never get anywhere near that price point. Everything has to be in flawless condition gem mint , second it is going to take along time to try to get
500k.
He could sell the boxes, easily, and get about what he was asking...no risk at 125k that's why they offered it
This is all vintage! obsidian flames booster box out of no where, what?
Good move by him keeping his cards and grading. Will make 3x what they offered and it’s all liquid easy to move.
He won't if the PSA grader creases his cards and gives them all 5's
i didnt see any incredibly valuable singles, just base set unlimited stuff. Sure its worth grading, but hes gonna be sad when he gets 100k for everything which is most likely. Theres like 20k in singles that I can see. Gold stars, 1st editions in pristine condition, etc would bring the value up a LOT more but didnt see it.
@@DanielCordone9and why exactly would the grader crease the cards??
The dude with the collection is gonna quickly realize how hard it is to get 10s in vintage cards lol
Who carefully stores away tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of collectibles in a storage unit but then neglects to pay the $200/month in rent?
Could have been a death?
@@BogusTime7 Must be. A loner with no family or estate lawyer or financial power of attorney . . .
unfortunately he passed away and his family didn't have time to mess with it
Tons of people actually.
Watch this stuff grade 7 and 8s lol
$200k easy but wouldn't spend more
Wow,🥳
None of that stuff was first edition or “first prints” that I saw. And not sure who said that most Japanese are worth more than English versions, the majority of cards are worth more as English. There are a few exceptions though with cards having different art on Japanese and English versions like Sabrina’s gengar. All being said that is one hell of a score, now to do the work to sell it. Most storage buyers I know don’t want to find end buyers they want to find someone to take it all.
