Doesn’t make any sense at all. So you open a 200$ hobby box pull a card worth 10k. Do you sell it for a 2k bc the box only cost 200. No. You try to maximize what you got. Sell it for what it’s worth. This goes for everything. You bought. House in 1980 for 100k. It’s worth 2 million today. Do you sell for 1 million. No. You sell at market or as close to Market value as possible

No way he left all that and just stopped paying rent….he could sell one box of cards to pay the rent for years. I am sure he would have wanted his family to benefit from his collection too….I sure hope these folks do the right thing and share this massive windfall with that man’s family. I wish the storage unit places would call people’s family before they auctioned off their stuff…it’s really sad.

Great episode. Great offer. You would be crazy to spend more than 160 with the risk and effort all on the buyer. 300-500k max value, so you gotta start at 300 to account for risk, luck, and effort. Subtract 50-75 on grading is 225-250. Then 60-70% is more than you can expect to get when selling to a reseller. That like 135-175k. That was in my head as fast I can type, so do not quote me on it. If I was a gambling and hustling man, I would go up to 160.

Having recently spent time researching Pokemon cards, due to a charity store pick-up of cards, I'll be very happy if I NEVER see another Pokemon card for the rest of my life! I knew, given the condition, that my find was going to be sub $100 (and I ended up selling them for half that), but the amount of variations and information you need to know is INSANE! Went to the card shop to sell them, and they wouldn't even make me an offer. After that point I had a point to prove to myself. Glad they're gone!!!
So... if I was the seller - who has very little into the lot - I'd have bitten your hand off with your offer, and moved on to something that I liked dealing with. It can all get very overwhelming, very quickly - esp. for people with zero interest in Pokemon.

The guy clearly does not understand how much condition matters with Pokemon and how it impacts value. Also as a pokemon collector I could never look at a booster box that age or any of those cards and just assume legit. Now it may be but that would take an expert errrrr knowledgeable collector to look at and determine, first! Should have never been an offer unless agreed examined first. Good luck to Gordon Gekko The reals tory here after all that is what happened to the collections owner, death no family... thats a story worth chasing, And if they didnt buy some of that stuff like the top loader binders etc thats fairly new trends. So weird or sad.

What I would do if I was him. Pick out the most valuable nicest looking ones grade them if they come out highly graded sell them use that money and grade others and just gauge where you are . If they are coming back 10s continue grading if you’re getting 7s just stop and sell raw

My opinion he should have taken that 125k and ran to the bank. Always ok to leave some meat on the bone for the next guy. Plus he is loosing interest on that 125k. My faith in pokemon cards for the future does not exist. Great episode

They’re not 1st Edition. You’ll need to grade these cards and hope for PSA 10’s to either make profit or worse case brake even. Not to mention the boosters are not authenticated so he’s takin a risk.

I love this chanel but I always get the sense that they are exploiting the community for profit. Especially when they try to frame it like they want to "help" people at the end of the day it's a business for profit.

I don't think was the intent but I guess it can be interpreted that way... Note, the buyer doesn't know Pokemon well and he also wants to see if the seller is hiding anything, so he can throw a proper offer.

The way you guys approach negotiations, learn from and educate your sellers, and end up somehow finding a way to make everyone a winner is part of the magic of chasing cardboard!
