    This woman is a true BOSS! A diligent, informed Amtrak worker who does her job only one way - the right way! The only way she knows how!
    Bravo, Queen! 👑 🚂
    From the Amtrak Safety webpage:
    Our Commitment to Safety & Security
    Amtrak is part of the nation's ground-based transportation system, interconnected at thousands of points across 21,000 route miles. Unlike the airlines with single points of staffed access, the Amtrak rail system has multiple points of access, and shares facilities with commuter rail operations and city transit systems handling millions of daily passengers at hundreds of stations. In such an open system with connectivity and a free flow of large numbers of people between modes, Amtrak does not compromise its commitment to safety and security but reinforces it in various aspects:
    Amtrak Police Department
    Amtrak, along with the Amtrak Police Department, has a range of behind-the-scenes and front-line security measures in place to ensure passenger rail security. For several years, Amtrak has made considerable endeavors.
    Visit Safety & Security to learn more about how Amtrak Police safeguard America's railroad and the rail-traveling public and crime prevention tips for travelers.
    Ticket Agents
    Ticket agents are required to ask passengers for photo ID when purchasing tickets. The company has also reminded its nearly 19,000 employees to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activity.
    Since a 2004 Security Directive from the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Amtrak has carried out additional passenger identification procedures through a random ticket verification process.
    Baggage Policy
    Each carry-on bag must be visibly tagged with the name and address of the passenger. Passengers may use their own personal identification tags, or may obtain Amtrak baggage identification tags at station ticket offices, or onboard trains from a member of the train crew.
    For the safety and comfort of our passengers, certain types of items are strictly prohibited onboard as checked or carry-on baggage. View our baggage policy for more information

      If you want to be a train conductor, just apply where available. It’s paid training so the only thing needed is a high school diploma. There’s no special skill needed to show you’d be a good one, and no schooling or specific job experience really means anything. It’s a weird kind of profession, but whether or not you’re right for the job is determined after you’re hired, not beforehand.

    • @MacCentrisSimpleSencilla
      @MacCentrisSimpleSencilla Год назад

      @@joeydoherty368 most likely not going to get hired that way. I could wait years to get hired for a train conductor job as a patient caregiver. Nobody is going to waste money hiring/training someone off the street who might not know anything about trains. With a certification I will be way more qualified. Bucks County Community College also works with NJ transit and Amtrak and will definitely back me up if necessary. Even if I make ticket sales, it's a start. Nothing beats having a certification (unless you have job experience supporting what you'll be doing). But thanks for your advice, my dad was a diesel mechanic for the military and I learned a few things watching him but locomotives are something different.

      Bit of a difference, though. Conductors are responsible for the whole train, including the engineers (unlike flight attendants who have no authority over pilots), and they do have a fair bit of technical training as well (i.e., they can and do help troubleshoot mechanical issues).

    • @joeydoherty368
      @joeydoherty368 2 года назад +3

      @@ckildegaard That’s true. Conductors are practically engineers without the knowledge and training of actually operating the train. @@joeydoherty368 you’re wrong. This is coming from a conductor. As a conductor you have just as much technical experience to diagnose issues that happens with the locomotive and cars. We are the ones that go outside and fix the problems. The engineer doesn’t get on the ground but they can handle everything inside the engine. Maybe you need to really look up what a conductors job is. We make the last call in regards to our crews. We direct, and manage our teams. We do the dirty work we just make it look good. Ticket collection is a small part of our job.

    • @joeydoherty368

      @@Dwoodplays I think you misunderstood my comment. I’m well aware of what a conductor’s job is, or at least I should be, since I’m currently training to become one. I didn’t mean that engineers have mechanical knowledge and skills, only that the conductors have a lot of knowledge of train movements similar to engineers. I don’t know how your railroad works, but on mine we have qualified conductors who sometimes work jobs that only involve ticket collecting, so they won’t be as up to date as the train conductor when something happens.

      Absolutely, trains have been around much longer than cars and planes, and if you’re going on a trip that ends up being overnight, you at least have a room with a bed to sleep in and they don’t have to deboard the whole train if it experiences mechanical problems, they can get a freight engine to pull the train to the next station. Plus, they have better fuel economy. They can get a lot out of how little fuel they consume and can pull a whole lot more than a commercial truck or jet can

    One time when I was young, I was riding from Syracuse to NYC, this one conductor went into our car, and said, I quote, "You should all be ashamed of yourselves." at the first part of his rant. I was young, so I don't exactly remember what he said, but he was pissed off cause there was like a few people by themselves sitting on seats that have 2 seats, and said like share your seat or some crap. He also said "I am ashamed by America's society. Now when I look back, I believe he was high...

    In Canada Via rail no longer employs conductors. I'm surprised South of the border amtrak still employs conductors. Is it a standard for all American passenger railroads to have a second operator riding on the train.

    • @nativegerry335
      @nativegerry335 8 лет назад

      Tokyo Gaijin Good information so far. Just wondering why in Canada the passenger train conductor is eliminated. Based on your explanation, that position seems vital for all railroads throughout the continent

    • @JacobMski
      @JacobMski 8 лет назад

      +Kerro Guano I've read there's a new high tech system called One Person Train Operation or OPTO which allows the engineer to run the train alone. Perhaps Via advanced to that.
      OPTO includes video links to the locomotive so the engineer can know what's going on in the coaches and of course the crew can talk to the engineer by radio the engineer can give orders to crew members the same way.

    • @boomer8806
      @boomer8806 7 лет назад +3

      Personally, I think that is a very, very bad idea. The engineer's focus should be solely on safely running the locomotive and the track and surroundings ahead. The last thing he should be doing is looking at a video monitor of something going on within the train. Ideally, I relief engineer or "brakeman" should be in the cab as well to act not only as another set of eyes looking ahead, but to keep the engineer awake and focused. A lot of bad things can happen in a very short snippet of time. And the on-board Conductor is just as vital to safety within the train as the engineer is to the trains operation. But what do I know, I only did this topic for a research paper last year and know several current and retired people who are or have been Conductors and Engineers.

      On subway systems and light rail, generally not. Other personnel are sometimes present but they usually remain at specific stations.
      On commuter and long-distance railroads, yes. There is always a conductor or two on the train.

    Well see there could've been an engine problem because when u have a locomotive engine how they work is there's a big diesel v16 sometimes v12 but they are much bigger than car engine and are as long as 2 king sized beds and as tall as 6ft they are turbocharged and when they are running they are not driving the locomotive the engine is driving a big alternator that creates power for the electrical motors connected to the drive wheels of the engine but there is a lot of load that comes with it so the train they were in must've been too heavy for the engine to generate enough power to drive the alternator

    It’s always that 1 person that says something stupid. She’s told you guys more information then you need to know, so she broke it down in terms people can understand. There are 2 engines on a Acela Trainset. 1 is not enough to move that trainset the way it’s designed. When you don’t invest ima government ran railroad this what happens; however this is all mechanical and it can happen on a fully new train.

    • @joeydoherty368
      @joeydoherty368 2 года назад

      That’s interesting that Acela’s need two engines. I would think as high speed as they are, you’d want just one so the power is evenly distributed. I guess not.
