You guys are truly the best! I have a Chevy Cruze 2015 that I bought used 3 years ago and I've had so many stupid little things go wrong with it. Your vidoes have helped me out immensely and have saved me hundreds of dollars!! Very well explained and very comprehensive. I just did this particular thermostat replacement and the whole process went very well. Can't thank you guys enough!!
Is there a gasket that goes to the metal pipe that connects under the thermostat itself? I believe it goes to the block. I bolted my new one up and it was leaking everywhere !
Question! First off, love your videos. I have a 2014 Chevy Cruze LS 1.8 and you videos are extremely informative and helpful. I just replaced my thermostat and thermostat housing (all metal Dorman product) and I also replaced my throttle body heater inlet pipe (as it broke when I replaced the thermostat and housing). When I start my car and drive, the engine temperature gauge doesn't register and my radiator fan is often running on high. It appears I am still leaking coolant out of the bottom passenger side of my radiator. The coolant leak is not extreme, I can drive a few hours before my coolant gets too low. I am concerned about this and my temperature gauge not registering. Any suggestions?
Did you plug the thermostat temp sensor plug back in? Was their actually a sensor to plug into perhaps you needed to put the one from the old component in? You will need to test it using a multimeter RUclips "How to test thermostat temp sensor" With the radiator leak you need to replace the radiator or your engine will eventually overheat and be gone.
Idk who will see this but, if your Cruze doesn’t register your temperature with antifreeze leaking out the right side, there’s a temperature sensor on the hose that connects to your radiator/waterpump. I replaced that and it worked, but ultimately it was a sign that the water pump in the car is failing. I changed my thermostat 2x before we figured it out
Hello @auto repair guys, My Cruze had a problem where the oil mixed with the coolant in the coolant tank. The mechanic changed the oil cooler, and now everything seems to be working. However, the issue is that the coolant tank is spilling the coolant. What could be the problem? Do you think it could be an issue with a clogged radiator, water pump, head gasket, or possibly the coolant tank cap? Thanks in advance, and greetings from Monterrey, Mexico.
What is the hose/clip that attaches to the top of the thermostat housing? I have a leak there, but am not sure what that plastic clip/hose would be called in a parts diagram.
As always great video. Do you ever change the clamps to the screw to tighten type to make those hoses easier to put on and off? Those hoses on the back were really a pain to get to with pliars.
Hi, thanks for share this video, it has been to helpfull, just one cuestion, Is It any diference between the thermostat AND thermostat housing of a Cruze 1.6l and 1.8? AND if It Is, what whappen if you put one of the 1.8 to a 1.6 engine?
If i could make a suggestion: in the description in order of use name/ size the tool used. As a consumer I would purchase these tools from your store if listed, thanks
10/11/2021 I had a P0128 code on my 2016 Chevrolet Cruz (like this one). I replaced the sensor on the thermostat and it was ok until 3 days later the code came back. I then replaced the whole thermostat housing (like in the video) and the code is gone and car works good so far. It seems the thermostat housing is caused a lot of problems. I replaced it with a plastic one and works better (not sure why) Recommendations: Follow the video exactly and please!!! CHANGE THE GASKET ON THE LOWER TUBE (bottom of the thermostat) If you do not your coolant will leak tiny amounts like mine and I had to do these steps all over again.
This is a great video and it saved me about $400. Thank you so much. Only issue I have is when I installed the new thermostat it was leaking so I went back in and tightened the bolts but the last one broke off. (bottom right which attaches the thermostat to the housing) To my surprise its holding and no longer leaking. In your opinion should I do something about this? And if so would you get a new bolt and try to save the housing or should I just spend a $100 and get a whole new housing unit?
Great video but my god do chevys need alot of maintenance. I have a honda and my wife has a chevy. Ive had to do stuff like this almost every month for failed parts. For my honda i have only 1 major issue which was my starter at around 140k miles.
Quick question hoping you guys can help answer. I know you have to drain the coolant to replace the thermostat and housing, but do you have to bleed the coolant as well? And if you do have to, are you supposed to do it before draining the coolant. Might seem obvious just want to cover all bases before I have it all apart. Thanks!
@@BorkChopGaming the poster of this video has a video about purging the coolant line. Be careful with the thermostat housing replacement. Looks like he has a holden cruze. The pipe that goes into the oil cooler is different. Loose that first witch he didn't show. Try to leave that pipe alone and dont pull it out. Then replace the housing. If that pipe is out one of two things happen after. 1 replace the outer o-ring and use a camera or mirror to put it back. Or 2 pull the exhaust manifold and replace the exhaust manifold gasket with proper torque spec as well as step 1. Just trying to help.
@@BorkChopGaming pause the video at 11:13. That pipe that he has his pointer finger on is the oil cooler inlet. Look at your new housing. Try not to move That as small as possible. Lose the front smaller bolts first if you have to directly under the thermostat. If you don't have to then don't lose those.

Did you have to “reprogram” it after replacing? My dealer is telling me they have to do that and want to charge $1k. Thinking of doing it myself
@@kyotodreams3306 Reprogram?? No there's no "reprogramming" involved in this installation at all. They're trying to rip you off...big time.

Hey was wondering what seals the oil cooler pipe to the front of the thermostat, have coolant leak where they bolt together

What’s with the gold watch and ring? Any good meckanik would know not to wear that when working on a vehicle.
thank you so much for the video. one quick question, what is that first hose called you disconnected on the housing in the beginning.
My car thermostat needle stays on cold and my ac is blowing warm air. Could it be the thermostat housing? We already replaced both sensors
Check the coolant level
Should any lubrication, such as silicone grease, be added to rubber gasket before attaching the new housing?
i did.

what are the tools that you used for this?

does the thermostat housing have the sensor in it?
