So much information in this one one. Thanks captain! The part about your fishing buddy “B” really hit home. I too had a good fishing buddy for years that I helped get in and out of the boat with a ladder. Our last trip together as I was lifting his foot over the gunnel to help him in I said ,” I hope when I get in this shape there will be somebody to help me in and out of the boat so I can go fishing. Little did I know that four weeks later we would be in the hospital at the same time, Bobby with a hart attack, me with a stroke. Bobby passed and I was wondering if I would ever be able to get in a boat again. Then I found you and team old school. I launched solo yesterday and managed to put a few fish over the side, got it back on the trailer too!!!! Thanks for helping me get in and out of the boat again! 🙏🙏🙏🙏😁
Wow Bill, that’s really something. That’s got me speechless brother. I was talking with Rusty on how everyone gets something different from fishing. For me it was always fishing with family and friends and later on, fishing with new friends and some really amazing people like yourself and brother Rusty😊😊. “B” was my very old friend’s (Dave) father. He only had his boat for a year when I met him and we went all over with that thing, salt and fresh. He actually moved down south from NJ right after I did, almost 30 years ago. There was a very long stretch where “B” never missed a trip with me. He fished nearly every tournament with us too. I’ve never seen anyone enjoy fishing as much as he did. Every once in awhile for a split second I’ll think about picking him up on the way to the lake. He is missed.
One reason Iam keeping my boat its simple and manageable 20$ I go fishing 60 hp 6 gallon tank Hummingbird sonar 17’ express flat bottom gets hard when on large lakes and the wind gets up but 22” gunnels nice decks f/r at 64 I can still pick up the nose and get it strieght on the trailer my next Upgrades would be a bemini. Top still have the original motor a redone tlra Yamaha 3.4 k and it’s back 02 been long over due know I can do almost 35 on the water
@@kencleg7721 You are one of those guys I used to worry about in my tournament days. 😂. I’m willing to bet that you catch more fish than any “5 boats out there.” Your comment describes in detail what every other tournament pro had nightmares about!😁😁😁😁👍👍
Love the drone footage of your boat motorin' on the water. It's a great testament to your sportsmanship, you counting "ALL" caught fish. I love it! I thoroughly enjoy all your videos! Thanks Mike.
THANKS BROTHER!!! I really appreciate your continued support. I wish I could make you understand what a big deal that is for me. Seriously. Thank you! 🙏🙏👍👍
Steve is a good guy. He reminds me of the guys I grew up with up north. Just says whatever he’s thinking. No filter😆. Some people take longer than others to figure him out, but once you do, you’ll be glad you did. He’s Old School. You can always count on him for anything you might need help with. I enjoy fishing with him 👍👍👍👍
Awesome video! Im learning a ton from the content you’ve been putting out since I fish mostly freshwater. Right now you can find stripers schooling everywhere on lake Murray and catch them on top water plugs. The most fun way to catch them in my opinion 😅. Keep putting out the great content!
Thanks brother!!! I agree 100%. Top water is the ultimate. I appreciate your support brother!! Your likes and comments really help me to make more videos!!! 👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏
I really appreciate your support brother!!! I’m trying to get back to more freshwater stuff for winter. If you see us out there be sure to come up and say hi. I’ll have some baits for you👍👍🙏🙏
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS Welcome! Hopefully start putting videos out soon on RUclips of Hunting and Fishing just have to find the time to edit lol. Will definitely holler at you if we see you!
Thanks for another great video! How are you able to get the 2D returns at high speed? Is it your Simrad, transducer, both, etc. please explain your setup and the equipment you are using. Thanks again.
Thanks Mike!!! I will absolutely do a full system breakdown. Great idea. I’ve always shown bits and pieces but I need to cover it all. I can mark Stripers and bait schools up to around 30mph pretty clear, but I can still make out fish over 30. I have a few high speed marking videos in my Simrad fish finder playlist. The Airmar transducers are really the “secret”😁. I use an Airmar high CHIRP wide mostly. Here is the transom mount version. amzn.to/46ejO8o. I’ve used it with Evo2. Evo3 and Evo3S. We are using this transducer in this video, amzn.to/3LsrQm9 but it marks fish on plane best in single frequency like 105khz.
Definitely!! I’m gonna do these for all year long. Winter is actually my favorite time for freshwater Stripers👍👍. It’s a close tie with fall, but winter is better for bigger fish usually. Thanks brother!!
Always enjoy your videos. Question: Can flutter spoons be trolled behind the boat? Years ago when I lived out west we pulled cowbells for trout. Do you think they would be effective in the southern lakes? Thanks and keep up the good work.
Thanks Steve!! And YES! I have lots of friends that troll them, especially in the southern lakes👍👍👍. I even have a trout guide buddy catching Lakers on them. ❤️. Thanks for your support brother!
I know it brother. It’s been super tough because they had some type of problem that took forever to resolve. I don’t know the details, but the company owner has been working day and night to fix whatever the issue was. No problems with the actual rods themselves, but some ordering or supply issues. I hope that it all has been sorted out finally. Thanks for your support brother!! 🙏🙏
Yes sir. It’s a Motor Guide Xi5 with “heading lock” and “anchor lock”. It was great for a few years and then POO! Totally unreliable. Back to Minn Kota🤷🏻♂️🙏
Now will the Minn Kota take the salt water also?? I am shopping for a trolling motor for my boat 22' 1988 Starcraft CC. I want one that will do "head lock" & "anchor lock" but don't want one that will fail. So what do you suggest?? My unit is a Lowrance Elite 9" FS. Any help or if you know of some one or some place that maybe be able to help me. Again thanks for your help !!@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
Hey Mike. I love the videos and learned so much watching your stuff over the years. I fish Lake Wallenpaupack in Northeast Pennsylvania and do very well. With all the success catching stripers, I want to start a guide service and channel of my own for next season. Do you have any tips you could offer for successfully starting as guide service and channel? I have a few videos up but they are very amature compared to yours haha. Thanks in advance!
These were the Ugly Stik line counter rods. They aren’t available anymore. I liked them quite a bit, but I had buddies that weren’t happy with them on lighter line than I used. 30lb mono was great with them, but 10-15lb line didn’t work very well. These are the clamp on counters I have used a lot and really like. They are reliable and last. Cheap too. They come in meters amzn.to/48ockRW
It’s actually quite incredible how Stripers act very similarly in all types of water. You can certainly use this method in the river, but this is the style I would use. ruclips.net/video/iZZYJbkdENo/видео.htmlsi=hFOG5Tcqxuos7cjK Once you figure out where the fish are holding in the river this method will catch lots of them. That river is enormous so you will probably have to search around online or talk to bait shops for what river sections are holding fish and when. They will move up and down depending on time of year
