I put a ring of Vaseline around the stem of my dahlia buds, it keeps the earwigs out they can’t walk over the Vaseline. My Dahlias have been magnificent since using it. Just a tip.
When I started growing flowers, I was given 2 dahlias. A red one and a white one. They were beautiful. I was told to dig them up and store them in fall, I’m in zone 5b. I threw them in a 5 gal bucket and left them till spring. They were perfect in spring! I have had them over 20 years and that is how they are stored. Newer varieties can not survive that kind of treatment!
I love when you introduce new people and their endeavors. You conduct a great interview and select interesting knowledgeable people. Of course, love all you do as well. 💗🌸
Oh, Nicole, what an interesting video. I agree, LeeAnn has very soothing voice. She’s a very genuine person. I thoroughly enjoyed your discussion with her. Isn’t nature amazing? So many possibilities from seeds. She has the perfect background for what she’s doing. So happy this worked out for her. She’s found her passion, for sure. 😊💖🦋🕊
Coseytown. Wow!!! Every tuber I received last year were healthy and beautiful. Even the packaging was beautiful. And, all of the tubers were outstanding in production and easy to grow. I live in northern New Hampshire with a short growing season (4a-5) and these varieties just outshone any others.
What a great video! I learned a LOT and LeeAnn is really fun to listen to. I don’t usually love to watch zoom convos but I watched this one start to finish. Thanks for hosting it.
Wow I have stored my dahlias in cardboard boxes inside my room and now i have tried the woodchip and it is amazing. Happy that you don't give up on dahlias😃
i never watch those kind of chit chat video from any channel... but this girlis fun to listen... not just for beginners... not that im a pro but i starve more knowledge... loll thank you Nicole
Fun to watch, even though I’ve given up on dahlias, after 3 years. Northwest Michigan, too much powdery mildew and I’m not interested in continuing to fight that. Happy that others have great success!
I really enjoyed this and learned from it! I just checked my dahlia storage and the Coseytown Penny, Coseytown Babycakes and Coseytown Kay all are firm. They were great performers last season and I hope to buy more in the sale.
Gurrl, I'm obsessed! This is my first year growing Dahlias in my first cut garden. I got tubers from Eden Brother. . . But now I'm about to add more!! Thank you. 😊
I'm so depressed I planted dahlia seeds I collected from 2021 and the weather was so wonky in Buffalo NY this summer they stunted then finally formed buds but then the 1st kill frost came. I'm hoping the ones I have potted up last week will Spring to life. I was so excited to see what they would look like. I love your videos by the way so informative. Thank you ☺️
I lost 900 dollars worth of dahlia😢 It was very sad for me and a loss for a small timer farmer. I learned very quickly it was how I stored them and unfortunately it was how warm they got in this big round cardboard container and unfortunately the metal on the bottom and top like a tuna can had heated my tubers. I was so disappointed and very busy so I never got into them that growing season. I however did handle the situation when I saw one growing out. Surprisingly the few bulbs survived were the powder puff dahlia which, has the upright tall wave to the sky. Thank you Coseytown on such wonderful information on storing, picking, and caring for them properly. I am on board on your website and can’t wait to order💕 Thank you Nicole for sharing these wonderful connections and as always I learn so much from you and your a doll❤
I just got my order to go though with Coseytown. I got 14 of the cut flower ones. Their were 2 of the $30.95 ones that I decided not to get. They weren't my favorites so I decided to not get those. Thanks for this video.
Great information from everyone, I don'tā think people really get that any information from a flower farmer is gold and free! Cozy town love you 😍 ❤️ you mentioned the word "surprise " and that is just it!!! I planted my butt off last 2yrs and my yard is just my heaven and I was more than successful it was magical! I had not 1 plant die on me not 1 and they all just did so well. I removed so much grass for veg plants and I grew it all on my first try and I mean everything lol I didn't know how to grow dahlias and I planted alot of them and non of them looked like the pic on the packaging and they were all the best surprise ever!! I found out on social media groups that I'm in that I had A mother's Love and let me tell ya omy gorgeous. Another thing Imthe perfect example of Snow Whites forest in my own is 6backyard!! I have all wildlife that put up a tent to stay lol. I used to use the gopher h: are a free fertilizer they eat all grubs! We're getting 50°!!!!! 6b Ohio baby!!
I too have a well, I have a huge garden so I have hauled water in a few times. I used my well last year but this year I’m setting up rain barrels on my gutters and hooking up hoses to the barrels to help out with my garden expansion. My mother used to put barrels out at the garden to catch rail water and she would add manure to the barrels to feed the plants.
What a fabulous video, so much insight and knowledge, makes me want to try dahlias fromxseed , dahlias are my favorites , last year i dug up my Tubers but they rotted so this year i decided to heavily mulch over them and leave them in the ground, we have some snow but i am very excited to see if they survived and produce this yes if not at least ill know for sure and it will give me a excuse to big more dahlias 😆
I just discovered her a couple weeks ago on Instagram! I am excited to grow some of her seeds. All of the seeds I've received from floret & others have been 99.5% single & ugly, but people that have grown her seeds, seem to have a much higher success rate with getting semi doubles, doubles, & prettier colors.
excellent! congrats to both...I love Cosey, sub to her news letter and instagram and love watching what she does! incredible! Best of luck , BE Blessed!
I gave up on dahlias but a friend gave me two plants last year they are purple leafs with bright red single blooms and they are stunning so they are stored so far the tubers are doing good .so I quest I will be back trying dahlias they are so beautiful but yes it's a love hate relationship with them .I live in zone 4 in northern Ontario Canada
Loved this video! Can’t get enough dahlias! Ms. Huber mentioned letting the drip run for three hours. This surprised me as I am so afraid of tuber rot. How many times per week does she water this deeply? Thank you for this video, Nicole!
I have well draining soil on a 2 -3 degree southern sloped field. I keep an eye on the water retention of my soil but in the hot dry parts of August I'm watering every other day in the very early morning hours (3am-6am).
I've already spent my dahlia budget for this season, but I can splurge a bit (more) and try to get some seeds during the sale. Thank you for letting us know about it :)
Thank you so much for your video, and sharing your knowledge and experience. Fantastic talk👏👏With gratitude and joy is all received. 🙏🏻 🙏🏻 I am growing more dahlias now, in my second year of gardening. And the tubers I kept from last autumn, I washed them with spray, dried them overnight near fireplace, and some stored at around 9-15C temperature, very low humidity, in dry saw dust, inside my house. I did all this, because I was so afraid they will catch the fungus and rot if I left them in shed, where is cooler and damper (humidity in UK probably higher, paper sacks get mildly damp if left in shed), and the mice would have got them. Tubers shrivelled a little, but not subtantially. I was thinking to moist them with spray a little, or not? I just wonder what is your advice? Now I am concerned them being too dry🙏🏻 🙏🏻 🙏🏻 Cheers, and thanks again for all your contribution. Greetings from UK
Thank you both for a honest talk on Dahlia's.. I sell organic Dahlia's in the Netherlands so we do know the love-hate relationship with them.. 🙄🤫 My request would be growing Dahlia's with an open heart.. they are important for bees 🥰🙏 (Optical pretty Dahlia's are well known but do not help on the biodiversity level)
You two are so nice to listen and learn from. I also have a love/hate relationship with dahlias. Only grew a few last yr. They start out fine..... then only half of the bloom opens. Only get a few nice ones. It happens every yr.! I can't find any bugs, water every wk.,....if anyone knows what the issue is, let me know. I can't find out what the problem is. Wow so pretty though.. I may give another try! Love Coseytown!
Nicole, how do your eyes match your sweater so perfectly at the start of the video? Must be the lighting in that room, because there’s other times when your eyes are an intense blue. (Sorry if it’s weird…not trying to be creepy. I geek out sometimes over great colour coordination.)
My eyes are very chameleon! They change from green to blue to gray depending on my shirt. My son is the same way! They do match this shirt exactly in this video 🥰
Hey Nicole, enjoy your videos. I have been looking for Crighton Honey Dahlia and can’t find it. Would you have any ideas about where I could find them?
We've been using Osmocote for 10+ yrs and it is THE BEST fertilizer! We get double the vegetables in our garden and our plants just thrive! I was so excited to hear that she was using it. So highly recommended!
I never even crossed my mind! A friend joked about making Huber's Tubers shirts a few years ago and it sent me into a fit of giggles. I'll stick with Coseytown Flowers but I'll also answer to Huber's Tubers anytime.
I would look for the out-of-print book "The Encyclopedia of Dahlias" by Bill McClaren. He hybridized the Alpen dahlias and lived in Montana. The back half of the book is very informational. Even though he doesn't specifically address growing in his climate he writes with that experience in mind.

Great idea!
Brilliant! Close to the ground on the main stem?
@@curiouscat3384 I put it further up the stem approximately 5-10 inches below an unopened bud.
Trying this for sure. Thanks for the tip!
Fantastic!! Xx

No lies detected. First Bloom is immaculate 😍😍😍

Last year I grew the ball type and this year I'm doing the dinner plate dahlias. I'm just a home gardener.
Wow, so beautiful! 👍🌻🌷🌺🌼

Those losses are so hard. I mentioned I failed at storing dahlias the first three seasons I grew them so I understand the disappointment.
Dahlias - tried them, too hot and humid here in SE coastal NC.
What a super-fun video!!! Loooooove it! 💕
It is colder here. Minus 35🥶
I loved her cream color one with the pink accent

Is the Osmocote extended release pelleted fertilizer organic?
I'm confused. If when you plant seeds, and anything can pop up, then how are they selling seeds with specific descriptions??
My descriptions are referring to the parental information if it is known. Feel free to read my seed listing for more information. Great question.

I sure do. Read the Canadian Shipping policy on my website. Policy is located on every product page.
Nicole would you like another Anthony Armelin dahlia?
Terry! I’ve been meaning to email you. My tubers didn’t make it. I was SO sad. It’s one of my absolute favorites
I had a boring insect decimate my dahlias last year. Not sure I'm going to do them again.

Oh yes! You have to cut/deadhead to keep them coming. You get months of flower productIon.
